Last week I went into the bank and exchanged a $20 bill for 20 $1 golden coins for free. I carry it around in a velvet pouch on a silver chain like shakespearean times. However, I must report it doesn't feel painful to pay for things with huge golden coins, its feels badass. The bigger problem is that you feel the urge to spend it on something badass enough. Either way, it definitely makes you way more thoughtful about your spending.

I keep maybe $40 cash on me at any given time, but a couple hundred at home tucked away. Had the internet go out for 2 days in my city (actually almost half the country) and you could not buy anything with debit or credit cards. If a disaster hits and you lose power / internet, you lose the ability to pay for goods unless you have cash. I had no groceries at all the day our city lost internet. but thankfully had some hard cash tucked away at home which I used to get groceries whereas I would've had to go about 2 days without food had I not. You likely won't need hard cash often... but you should definitely keep some around.

One $100 bill, two $20 bills, one $10 bill, two $5 bills and 5 $1 bills is the perfect amount of cash to carry at all times. You have enough to cover yourself in a mini emergency. You can get gas, take a cab, get something from a taco truck, get a hotel, help out a homeless person, take a bus or a train, grab a beer, have enough money on your books if you end up in jail. I've been through a lot of bs in my life and having this mini emergency fund on you incase you lose your phone or get stranded somewhere is great. @@fake-dz4jd No. Dumb people who don't understand basic finances use credit cards. I am a lower middle class earner at 44 years of age. I have never had wealth (grew up to poor parents who needed welfare for many years). 95% of my purchases are on debit. Credit card is only ever used as an alternative for debit (online purchases usually), not because I don't have the money. I do not spend money I don't have. My entire life I pay my credit card off almost the next day. How? I live within my means. I don't spend money on things I can't afford. Most people are stupid, they put themselves into debt by buying a home or a car or luxuries that are far beyond their means of income, leaving them compromised and endangered financially when times (inevitably) turn rough. I have never been seriously harmed by hard financial times because I have avoided debt my entire 44 years of life thus far - I just spend less when times go bad. Most people are too weak-willed or dumb to do this and instead pile up debt on credit cards - then when inflation hits or they lose a job, they are ruined. Me? I just have a slightly harder time is all, but I am not ruined by it. Debit cards are not for the rich - they are for the middle class / lower middle class who happen to have a lick of common sense is all.

I keep $20-$30 hidden in my car and I remember to remove it when I take in the car for service. I hold a lot more in a home safe for a big emergency that might require cash. I've had to dip into both resources but mostly the small amount in my car because I have forgotten my wallet on my way to get take out food. I also keep $100 in my travel backpack which should be enough to pay for food and transportation back home from work in case I lose my wallet or credit card. Of course, I also have savings and a brokerage accounts for more extreme emergencies like getting laid off or a large medical expense. The point is to have enough safety measures in place so I never get stranded anywhere or go hungry because I don't have access to my wallet or credit card.

Most aren't so they run up a credit card. Read the comments. Credit cards aren't going to magically make purchases people, so why are yall afraid of using one? @musak.4068 Жыл бұрын
@@ToothlesstheNightFury510 Use your credit card the way you'd use cash/debit card. For what you can afford to buy cash. If you only have $1000 in cash. Then $1000 is the maximum amount on your credit card. Now you can pay it off. Call your bank to find out when they send the report. Then pay it off after that date. You just want to pay it off before the end of the month because at the end of the month interest will be added to the balance. Credit cards notoriously have extremely high interest. You'd be around 27% interest. And if you use the entire 1000 balance mentioned earlier. Then at the end of the month you'd now owe ($1000 + 27%) $1,270. If you don't pay that balance off you'd owe ($1270 + 27%) $1612.90. See how people rack up credit. If you only paid a portion of the balance, that interest would be charged to the remaining amount you owe. Most Americans take out a credit card that they misuse + have student loans + have a car loan. THAT is why they get trapped in debt. The FIRST car for most Americans is a used car. The average interest rate on used vehicles is currently over 10%. You can do the same math with those loans that I just showed you with credit cards. Let's say you paid $300 off your $1000 balance and now have a remainder of $700. At the end of the month interst would be added to that balance and you'd owe ($700 +27%) $889. JUST shy of $900. Your balance started at $1000. You paid $300. But you owe close to $900 by the next month. Isn't that crazy? Yes. So pay the damn balance off every month. Most Americans PAY THE MINIMUM BALANCE on their card. This is tracked statistical information. Minimum balance is on average $35. Imagine paying the minimum balance for 6 months. month 1: $1225.55 (pay minimum on this) month 2: $1512 (pay minimum) month 3: $1875.79 (pay minimum) month 4: $2337.80 (pay minimum) month 5: $2924.56 (pay minimum) month 6: $$3669.74 THAT is what you'd owe after only paying the minimum for 6 months.

Mobile payment is inherently safer than using your actual card. Each time you make a mobile payment it sends a unique ‘code’ from your phone to the bank. Bank confirms the code and that it’s you making the transaction, bank then tells the merchant to accept the transaction. All this in a second. Your actual card details are never revealed. And it’s impossible to skim your card using mobile payments.

Phones can be stolen too and some of us don't carry those stupid things around all the time.

@@sexygeek8996 then that use case simply doesn’t apply to you. Not everyone uses things or has the same requirements as you. Also, provided you’ve got security enabled on your phone a thief can’t simply start tapping away spending your money, so it’s a moot point.

Credit cards are the safest method of payment. Cash has no protection & mobile payments via your cell phone can be lost, stolen or hacked.
