This week we get some cranking speeds in light winds behind Fraser Island while discussing something we'd overlooked over the last couple of months flying our cruising spinnaker! Had you picked up on it?
Once at Kingfisher Bay, we go on a whale watching tour with our friend Josh who runs Hervey Bay Whale Watch (www.herveybaywhalewatch.com.au/) before sailing down the Sandy Straits to discover shipwrecks and ruins.
Make sure you grab your very own Free Range Sailing T Shirt or Hoodie before our campaign ends on 4 December 2019. Click here for more information: www.bonfire.com/free-range-sai...

Wonderful thanks to viewer Ryan and co-host Troy! Speaking of sailing lessons, Philippians: 2,3 "but with humility considers others superior." & Matthew :18,15 " Go and reveal his fault, between you and him alone." Yes, a touch of a stretch, nonetheless...two classy gentleman stood on the high seas! We, as in many, thank you both. Richard

Hi Guys, really enjoy your videos. They are very informative with plenty of sailing. They are also very inspirational. Your spinnaker, however, has been a topic of discussion mind you. I am sure is started out life as a conventional spinnaker and has been stretched into an asymmetrical spinnaker over time. The reason I say this is that it appears to have red and green corners on the clues for ease of setting up while in a bag or sleeve and secondly the panels appear to be stitched symmetrically down the centre of the kite. But, HEY, if it works, why not. Please keep the good content rolling.

Love your channel, we have so much in common with your boat and ours, (even though it's a Tri) she has the same motor, tender & motor and similar rig and we sail out of Brisbane. I think I have learnt more off your channel than any other, thanks for that. Our Asymmetric Spinnaker is marked port and starboard which never really made sense to me but it works. Keep on cruising, cheers.

Fascinating and informative;we sailed from Tasmania to the Daintree in 2017 and visited many of the places you have. I have enjoyed your meanderings greatly. Do you use your drone to help enter anchorages? I will be venturing north again in my Zeston 36 in the coming winter. If you come to Tasmania this summer, I would like to meet up and maybe share some great anchorages. Terry Mitchell

Whistles and waving to attract the whales? Hadn't heard of that one. But music playing through the hulls is one I have heard of. The Hervey Bay Humpbacks are rockers as they do have a liking for AccaDacca (ACDC).
@ushi120
@ushi120 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, are you sure you have an asymmetric spinnaker? It looks more like a symmetrical spinnaker. You then have no 3 different corners: head, clew and tack. But only 2 different corners: head, clew port (red), clew starboard (green). Look at video (02:46min.). The symmetrical Spinnaker is normally used with a Spinnaker pole. During the jibe you have to change the clews. If you use your Spi like a Gennaker, as shown in the video. It doesn't matter at which clew (red or green) you attach the Gennaker sheets. So, I don't think you was totally wrong with you head sail configuration. 😉

I saw that marking too... however... when you gibe and pull the assi through, the colour markings are reversed... The Luff is longer than the leach, which is the difference between an assi spin, and a symmetrical spin... I think... LOL
