A human noble whose class is barbarian: He comes from a rich city-state ruled by a noble oligarchy, and it got into a war with a barbarian horde. After they fought to a stalemate a truce was agreed to, and part of the truce was that the two rulers would each offer one of their children to the other as a ward/hostage for ten years. So one of the oligarch's 8 year old sons was sent to live with the barbarian tribe, where he was raised in their ways. This would make him a kind of bridge between two different kinds of societies. Perhaps he also married the daughter of the barbarian chieftain, leading to some conflict at home because this clashed with a marriage his parents arranged for him to a noblewoman from the city.

I found a homebrew Illithid race for D&D 5e. My idea is that he left his species behind because he had a strange mutation that allowed him to consume normal food, instead of brains. He took a love to cooking, but quickly realized that nobody around him could even consume his creations, so he moved on from his home and became a traveling chef. He’s very picky and judgmental about his and others food, and holds himself to a higher standard. My plan to introduce himself to party is like this: You meet in a tavern (original, I know) Your all talking amongst yourselves, when the door to the tavern swings open. You think nothing of it, until a woman lets out a piercing screech, and the scrape of metal as weapons are unsheathed. You all turn to see a tall, slim figure, with tentacles on his face, has entered the tavern. It is an Illithid, or better known to common folk as a “Mind Flayer” Everyone is too scared to make a move, as the Illithid goes up to the bar and takes a seat. The bar tender... doesn’t seem to bat an eye at this monsters presence. She say “What can I get you today man” The Illithid, who had stood with such elegant posture, suddenly slouched and spoke, in common, to say “Get me a cheep beer. I feel like sh*t today...”

When switched back to assistance, she does not recall the events occurred during her time as a fighter, and if she ever finds out that one of her friends died during that period, there's only a 1 in 20 chance that she will not commit suicide or self-deactivate. -A changeling rogue who accidentally murdered a twelve year old girl and is now "haunted" by her. However, what he _actually_ experiences is an undiagnosed case of DID (dissociative identity disorder), in which the "identity" of this girl surged as a way for him to cope with her death. The girl is quite shy and rarely interacts directly with anyone aside from the rogue, but when she does, their shared body adopts the shape of the dead child. -A bard who goes by Merina Magica (not her birth name) who is a stage magician, performing for the townsfolk who can't afford the big showdowns from real wizards and sorcerers. With the help of some minor illusion magic and a LOT of sleight of hand checks, she can make the local innkeeper wonder if his good ol' playing cards were enchanted all along. I could go on and on, but this comment would be way too long if I did.

I've been discussing the idea of an Animated Armour parading as a war forged warrior.

One of my ideas that I've had for a minute is a lawful neutral assassin. He comes from a legal assassins guild like the morag tong and is an insane stickler for the rules. Since if he disobeys the rules on a mission he will be condemned as a murderer he lives by the code to the most extreme interpretation so that if he does make a mistake he has a strong history of following the rules to back what he says in court. He may be perceived as evil but he never goes out of his way to harm anybody without having a signed and notarized contract.

I've always wanted to play a kobold artificer that pilots a war forged mech suit

Hear me out: A College of Satire bard. Instrument? SNARE DRUM. ENDS ALL OF HIS BARD SPELLS WITH A RIMSHOT. _SCREW ENCUMBRANCE, 100% WORTH IT._

I went through Two sessions with a DM who OKed this idea, and would love to try it again to really get into it. The campaign was made with DM asking us for plot hooks in our backstory. I played a man who's town was burned down when he was a teen, believed he was the only survivor, and, driven by the loss of everyone, including the girl he loved, he swore to ensure it would never happen again, and thus became a paladin focused on protection. There was an NPC, a woman who's town was burned down when she was a teen, believed she was the only survivor, and, driven by the loss of everyone, including the boy she loved, she swore to ensure it would never happen again, and thus became an anti-paladin focused on vengeance. Sadly the campaign fell apart due to scheduling conflicts before they got to meet...

I absolutely love how Dave brightened up while reading the story of Zappa. I’m so glad that someone shared that and that I could hear Dave’s buttery voice reading it out to me. I hope everyone feels the same and has a better day because of this.

I want to play a Artificer Kobold who doesn't know how to build anything or magic, except for making portals. Every time he needs a magic item made or a spell effect done a portal opens up and a group of kobolds on the opposite side will make the effect. Need a fireball? Kobolds wheel a cannon to the portal hole. Revivify? Portal opens and a kobold with makeshift shockpaddles reaches out.

I created a teifling warlock named Atticus who I really love and can’t wait to use in future campaigns. I went really in depth with his backstory so here’s a synopsis: He’s a teifling, but his parents were both humans, hence him being given to an orphanage and being thrown out by his family as he was a “cursed child”. (Just as a side note, the town he grew up in was mostly humans and other more human races (half elf, half orc,stuff like that, so it wasn’t the best place for a teifling). He was already bullied and berated for being a teifling. As he grew up he came to not care as much and befriended a elf, who soon became one of his trusted friends. He soon came to realize that his friend wasn’t who he thought it was, as his friend betrayed him by trying to take his horns (he got one of them) to sell on the black market for a shit ton of gold. Hence why Atticus has a lotttttt of trust issues. But because of his shitty shitty childhood, he’s one of the nicest, most caring people you’d ever meet. He doesn’t really like to talk about his past, and would brush off questions about it unless he really needed to for whatever reason. I would like to see how his character would go, as I think he would either snap at some point, becoming ruthless, rude and just caring about himself. Or he would become one of the nicest people that would try to help overcome stigmas and try to show people that everyone can be good. Sorry about the essay XD if there’s any spelling errors sorry about that lol

Actually just created one today. I'll play her if or when my current character dies/retires. Here it goes: Ecstasy, a Tiefling (Levistus heritage) Glory Paladin/ Swords Bard with the haunted background. She sings the praise of her travels and the actions of her companions when in town, spends freely on every occasion and drinks heavily. She seems bubbly and pretty full of herself, always up for a challenge and seemingly unshakable in her happiness. However, it's all a farce. She's forever haunted by what she's done in her past. When her brother, a prize fighter, was kidnapped after refusing to throw a fight and end his winning streak, she struck out on a search to find him. When she got close, she was told to leave and never come back, or else the rest of her family was going to "disappear" as well. But she couldn't. She thought they were bluffing. And her ego and love for her brother compelled her to go back. But no answers would come easy and her charm only got her so far, with the gang that took him. And when she came back home on that fateful day, everybody she loved was gone. In her desperation, she grabbed her father's old armour and weapons and swore an oath of vengeance. With her father's sword and pike, she let hell loose on those who made hers not worth living. The red mist desvended. The wrath and desperation of someone who has nothing left to lose flooded her system. She slew most of the goons who stood in her way, hacking off limbs and gutting them like fish. But eventually she was overwhelmed, beaten senseless and thrown into a cell. Commending her bravery but damning her foolery, the gang's leader - a greasy human man named Rez the Butcher - walked up and down her cell's iron barred exterior. He taunted her at first, leaning in close so she'd try and reach, then dodging back out of her range, all the while laughing and spitting at her. And as he got bored of that, he barked at his men to "bring in the family." Tears welled within Ecstasy's eyes as she saw their beaten bodies. But they were still alive. The butcher didn't intend to keep it that way, however. He produced his cleaver and despite all the begging and crying beheaded each of her relatives with multiple, brutal strikes. When he was done, he left the heads outside of her cage to rot. Her vengeance had failed. Her vengeance got innocents killed. But at the lowest point, a streak of luck saved her. Seeing her unconscious and assuming she had starved, some goons threw her out in the woods to dispose of her. Then traveling group of minstrels found her and picked her up. She was in a bad shape, but they nursed her back to health and taught her a few things along the way. She has since sworn a new oath. An oath to protect the innocent and fitting with her rescuers, an oath to sing to glory. And with her trusty weapons she now seeks to live her life as an adventurer in tribute, to the lives she lost.

I’m wanting my next character to be a kobold who grew jealous of how the dragon he served under received so much praise and warship. Who seeks to be treated the same way, and slowly compiles an army of small lizards to serve him.

I really want to make a redemption paladin. Specifically I really like the idea of a orc who was once a horrible raider who slaughtered hundreds He was temporarily crippled rendered unable to speak or move and was found on the battlefield and found by humans. He was brought in by these people, cared for then eventually healed by clerical magic. Due to this he decided to change his ways and become a paladin for the clerics god. He becomes an adventurer to seek out people he can save and more importantly die in self sacrifice believing death is all he deserves. The character would be incredibly hesitant to take any life. Only truly fighting against constructs and undead. Edit: I got to play. I have maged not to kill anyone yet also, accidentally revealed to the elf that I killed the last of his people.

I've had a kolbold paladin on the back burner for a while. He's on a quest to release Kurt (The kobold God) and he's never gonna stop unless a dragon fly's down to stop him

Out of the characters I haven't gotten the chance to play yet, the "coolest" (read: most creative and most complete) one would have to be my dullahan Tempest Cleric. Once a very-much-alive and devout follower of a god of oceans, she lost her life when a ship she was travelling on capsized. In her final moments, she prayed with all she had to her god, hoping that he would save her, and she would find herself on safe, dry land soon. She woke up on the shores of a beach, but felt that something was... off. She couldn't remember how she got there, and no matter how hard she thought, her memories simply would not come to her. Without any better ideas to jog her memory, she gave herself a light tap on the head... and vastly underestimated her strength, punching her head clean off her shoulders. As her now-detached head gazed upon her separated body, she realized a few things: One; she had somehow beheaded herself. Two, she was still alive despite that. Three, she wasn't actually "alive", as she was now undead. Headless undead knight. Gotta be a dullahan, right? It's better than being dead, but not by much. So hopefully, this whole "undead" thing can be fixed with some magic, and then she can go back to working in her temple like she's supposed to. Now if only she could figure out what direction said temple was from where she is...

One of my favourite characters I ever came up with A human paladin (homebrew oath called ’unbroken’ which heavily emphasises high AC and defensive buffs for the party, l can’t share it here since I only have a screenshot of it) who lost his wife and home in a bandit raid, and so had to raise his daughter in the woods by himself for six years, before being dragged into an adventuring party (it will depend on the specific campaign story exactly why he has to do this) and forced to bring his daughter along, since he has nobody to look after her and nowhere safe to leave her. He would be exceptionally good at protecting her from harm (bodily if need be) having had six years solid to practice, and as such due to being mechanically built for high AC, there is nowhere in the world safer for this little girl than within five feet of her father.

Zappa sounds exhausting... with so much bravado and moxie, everyone else in that party must feel like... second fiddle XD

The "two bodies in one body" thing story sounds inspired by dr jekl and mr hylde Also: it's still in development, but a sorcerer who uses spells designed for out of combat situations for combat, like casting presdigitation to summon small daggers in the victims lungs or heart, making minor illusion duplicates or using disguise self after getting in the enemies back lines with invisibility only to either take their weapons, or make presdigitation knives in their throats or something like that

Here is a character idea I’ve been polishing over the week: The character is someone who is born with something called the twelve-year sickness (a concept from Tales of Berseria), which is a sickness that causes repetitive fevers that intensify as the person age, and it ultimately kills them by the time they’re 12. To save her life, her parents made some kind of deal. It brought her out of the brink of death... but they didn’t know the extent of what was going to happen to their child. Every time she dies, she’d revert, physically, to her 12 year-old self, and the sickness would reset, so she would end up dying from it when she turns 24. Every time she dies, emotional connections toward memories would sever. Imagine losing the connections toward your original life (home, family, friends, etc.), but you are aware that you once had some kind of strong connection with them. She could always attempt to remake those connections, but it wouldn’t be the same as before. She’s been through the cycle enough times to lose the emotions and bonds to her original life, and she did try to break the sickness once, but it didn’t stick when she ultimately died from other causes. So, she doesn’t care about curing the illness anymore, and all she wants to do is die permanently

A Barbarian who shits himself when he rages-he’s super self conscious about it, so his personal journey throughout the campaign is to love himself and accept his quirks.

This is just a thought on the character concept that was last, the rock star elf (i think that was the species). This is pure speculation but i think there is a darker story behind that wood, bone lyre. It was weird to me how the creator pointed out the skull was of a species unknown and how when the concept character said he wrote letter to his parents with no reply back, it said he "presumed" they were disappointed in him. But what i am guessing with pure speculation that the parents or at least one of them was killed and stripped to bones to make the lyre that the concept character carries so carefully. This would explian why he feels compelled to write sad songs with it, (maybe some magical aura) and the real reason why Zappa the mystery women hastielly scrolled "I'm so sorry" was not because she left him standing but knew the real content of the box and actually liked, dare i say, fell in love with the rock star. Reasons for delivering the box with the content i presume is a dead parent is not for sure but a weak theory or idea is someday he (the concept character) would one day need to draw upon that sadness. This is just speculation but if you find holes in my theory comment on it.

When a Yuan-ti Pureblood has a child with a human, the child is also pureblood, but the snakeskin and other things don't come till later. Otto Azutali never knew his father, and his mother, while never abusive and quite protective of Otto, never showed him any emotion, and always was covered in cloths or draped in shadow. He was always a spur-of-the-moment kind of guy, and he loved to entertain. When he turned 18, his mother vanished without a trace, and scales started to form on the backs of his hands. He was in so much turmoil that he suddenly felt cut off from any and all emotion and saw the world through a... reptilian lense. These episodes of emotional efficiency (later called "shifts") only happened during moments of severe emotional trauma. After the first "shift" finished, Otto began searching for answers. In his fragmented state of mind a dark voice reached out to him, it's words as cold and its tongue as sharp as a blade. It offered him a deal. If Otto were to serve him, he would be granted power. Eventually, the voice promised, he would be able to find out where his mother went. He made the deal, hoping to understand what had happened to them. He took to the road, meeting new people and performing as a gladiator, using only a magic sword summoned from thin air. He was a favorite wherever he went, and he soon met a friendly half-elf bard named Tanner, and they immediately became inseparable. They never went anywhere without the other, and Tanner often would play music during Otto's fights, giving his friend inspiration if need be. He is the only other person alive that knows the truth about Otto, shifts to scales. Tanner promised Otto that he would help him discover who he was and where his mother went.

Genasi Fighter/sorcerer: he's the son of a powerful shape-shifting sorceress and a naive Fire giant. he traveled with his mischievous mother till he was ten, when she was finally caught and put in a secure prison for powerful mages(she was totally guilty). he traveled to his fathers mountain forge where he convinced the Fire Giant (who was pissed he had been deceived) to take him on as an apprentice, as the fire giant was forbidden by their culture to accept such a diminutive creature as a giant/heir. two decades later he sets out to free his mother with the weapons and armor he forged himself.

I can't stop laughing at this amazing story of Zappa. Geez, wish Zep Leadlin the gnome bard had seen this all those years ago, rather than being an annoying deviant horn dog that the DM had to figure out tons of magical STI and finally get pregnant (by him getting turned permanently into a girl) to stop his reign of annoying terror. 😂

2:00 better yet, the great old one IS a good guy, and he (it?) experiences cosmical rascism and isn't even taken seriously by his own kind.

Two come to mind: 1) Mama Yeya the blind Human Wizard: - a 6' tall, broad shouldered black woman who's grimoire are the beads in her draids, necklaces, and bracelets, so even tho she's blind she can still read and prepare her spells. She also has blind sense thanks to her companion 'Noodle' (a giant python forest spirit) that resides in her beads. He squeezes the beads on her wrists, chest and neck to telegraph where the enemies are and how many. 2) Roman the Human Barbarian: - a scrawny young man born to a tribe of all female warriors; they live and protect a magical forest and in exchange it grants them longevity, male-less offsprings, and power. Welp, not only is he male but also more of a hugger than a fighter... both of which completely perplexed the entire clan. The elder had a vision of one of their own representing them against a wave of darkness that would befall the world; and since none of them can leave the forest without losing their powers, they figured he must be the one. His mother passed on to him her sword 'de la Rose' which holds an imprint of all its previous users' strength, wisdom, and skills. So basically, every time he draws his sword he transforms like a magic girl, and ends up looking like a bodybuilder complete with a golden tiara, loooong black flowing hair, backless white corset armour, golden bracers, a mini white skirt with booty shorts, and white knee-high heels. It should be noted that not only is he straight, but also that he doesn't change sex, just clothing and physicality. Think: Puberty + Steroids + Drag. Equal parts brute and fabulous.

I'm new to dnd, and the groups resident dm. If someone else decides to dm, I had a character idea. It's a humble human who's farm is in the dumps. His family is broke and starting to go hungry. While looking around the house for anything he can sell for gold, he find a sword made of an odd metal with a skull in the hilt. The skull in the hilt belongs to one of his ancient ancestors, who became a lich and a demilich later on, so that he can watch over and protect his family. When he grabs the sword, his ancestor will offer to help the human, bestowing both the sword and various magics of knowledge and death. The farmer will go off to explore and raise money, sending all of the gold he can spare back to his family. As he slays more monsters will the sword, which acts as the phylactery for his ancestor, they will both grow stronger.

A puppy who's owner was a warlock. One day the warlock was killed while on a walk with the puppy, after which the puppy ate up his spell casting focus. The puppy was captured as was to be sold. The puppy was at an all time low and the warlocks patron came to the puppy who promised to help him. The puppy made the deal and escaped becoming Hecks the Warlock Pup. Hecks has vowed to kill the people that killed his owner. (mechanically could speak telepathically with DM permission)

I recently created Torrik, an elf druid-bard with a feathered velociraptor familiar. When Torrik was young (about 43 years old) his village was attacked by a tribe of lizardfolk. He escaped into the forest where he would eventually become a druid. One day, he got bored and lonely, so he decided that he would create a familiar, using an old spell book he found in the ruins of his old village that included “find familiar”. The first thing that popped into his head was a velociraptor that he was taught about in school. He forgot how big they were, so he made it about 3.5 feet tall and was like: good enough! He named his newly-created familiar “Puckie” and they quickly became inseparable. There were endless jokes and laughter. For the first time in life, Torrik truly felt happy. Eventually, Torrik began to notice that civilization started growing outside the forest. He then had a brilliant idea. “If jokes and laughter made me happy, maybe they can make others happy as well!” He then moved into the establishing town (he got many confused looks due to Puckie. He didn’t mind though), and formulated a plan. His plan was to do live comedy plays where audience members could join as actors. It was also decided that background music was needed. It was decided that the banjo would best fit the wacky nature of his plays. Torrik then began banjo lessons along with Puckie. His plays were a hit. He had done it. He made people happy. However, Torrik began to miss exploring the forest. He decided to go on an adventure, and possibly bring happiness to the whole world, alongside his new friends. Extra info: Torrik has a very happy-go-lucky personality, and tries to avoid killing at all costs. When making him, my goal was to create the most unorthodox and funniest character possible who doesn’t seem too out of place. I think I succeeded.

Scythor, the Changeling rogue...s. It started with one character, Scythor the Changling Rogue. Then, as I played him more, I realized I really liked him as a character. As I played in more games, I kept remaking him and remaking him with the new rules, new rolls for stats (obviously), and sometimes even new playstyles and multiclasses. That's when I got the idea, they're all different changlings all trying to be Scythor. One ended up being a shopkeeper, one sometimes masqueraded as a gnome artificer, one was supposed to be DPS for dayz but never got that far. One thing remained between them all, Scythor was a changling rogue that was as charismatic as he was deadly, though the specifics can change. If I get back into playing, I'll bring up this idea with the DM to see what they think.

I've had one brewing in my head for a few days when this video popped up... It all started during an attack from an Ancient Silver Dragon that was under the control of a possible BBEG, and caused irreversible damage to the area surrounding them. While the city managed to fend it off, a little girl managed to latch onto it as it retreated to its nesting site in the mountain peaks outside. Seeing this young girl, the Dragon decides to raise her in secret from the BBEG, using some of its strength, and enhancing what would otherwise be a normal human. Fast forward several years, and the girl is now strong enough to fend for herself to an extent. She bids her farewells in the hopes to rid the BBEG's control over her adoptive parent. I would presume she would have to level up the monster way rather than a character way, but would also have some interesting attributes from being partially a Silver Dragon.

I just had this idea that may or may not work. But basically its a bard/artificer who rides around the battlefield in a small tank contolled by their instrument of choice, a piano they hardwired in as the controll panel. So as they perforn mozart's symphony no. 5, the tank will be blasting fireballs and providing bardic inspiration and such

I've got a interesting one, a warforged way of long death/fiend pack warlock. The idea behind the character is that she's a complete prototype warforged made by a scientist brought to life by a pact that was made between the scientist and the fiend. THE BACKSTORY Prototype warforged built by a scientist who wanted to bring back their child who died in the war many years ago. After many years of being stuck in the final process of breathing life into his creation. The scientist got desperate and realised that he couldn't truly create life from nothing, so he found a ancient tome summoning which allowed him to call forth a fiend patron. Upon summoning the fiend ask " who dares summon me to the mortal plane" the scientist ask the fiend to bring back their child who died in the war into this body he created. After pondering a while the fiend told him to achieve his goal of bringing back his child, he would have to strike a deal with the fiend. The deal was the he would have to offer up his own soul as payment to the fiend so it could be used as the catalyst to bring the man's creation to life. The man accepted without hesitation, shocked by the eagerness of the man the fiend grind took his soul and brought the creation to life. Before leaving the fiend told him that ritual would be complete in 5 years as the energy for his soul is being transferred. In the next 5 years the scientist tought his child everything that he could before the deal was done. Not knowing what was truly going on until that fateful day when the fiend came to collect. Rubedo pleaded with the fiend to not take her father away from her. Being one to not break a deal, the fiend told her "His soul is mine, I can't give him back to you cause that would be breaking the deal, but if you want to have him to ascend to the heavens peacefully in arms of his loved ones, your gonna have to make a pac with me" the conditions he gave was that she would be his emissary and send souls to him, but to release her father she would have to send him a soul of greater value. She accepted his terms and set out on a journey to have father's soul released. I really like this character concept because backstory and the combination of touch of death from the monk and dark one's blessing from the warlock.

Had this neat concept for a while of two characters in one. A Chaotic Neutral "fast talking" mute Goblin Merchant (Homebrew class pulled from DANDwiki) named Faither and his adoptive brother of sorts, a Kenku named Gobo who can uniquely read Faither's mind. Story wise both taken in as children by a weird man who basically ran an orphanage for non-humans and stuck with each other since. The idea being that Kenku can't speak their own words, only mimic what they hear, but being able to read Faither's mind, hear his thoughts, Gobo basically becomes his mouth piece. Should they ever be separated Gobo's lack of autonomy would screw him over, and Faither loses his best means of communication. I even thought as a great story line, Kenku have simple thoughts and goals so Gobo being a flightless bird perhaps dreams of flying. Faither is a gold loving businessman and wants to build the best traveling merchant guild imaginable.... So these two dreams combine for why they join the party, in hopes of tracking down a craftsman capable of building the largest and strongest airship the world has ever known! A flying town with Faither as captain and Gobo manning the helm, built to house and protect any merchant that joins under the guilds banner as they sail country to country peddling goods and acquiring rare stock. Not to mention there's any number of great uses in a fantasy story for someone to have an armored airship, letting it eventually become the parties mobile base before the big bad encounter or something. I can see a few DMs finding some fun stories to be told with it.

I have an idea for a fighter that has his consciousness trapped in a flying sword, and is trying to find his body.

I have a few ideas - 2:10 I have a similar character concept to this one son of a water and a fire genasi. Has three personalities, each controlling a different element. A water genasi who goes with the flow and just wants to bring peace, a vengeful fire genasi who wants to destroy the world in fire, and an obsidian genasi who can only control the body when the water and fire genasi personalities can come to an agreement, which doesn't happen often. Which of the two main personalities is mainly in control that day is determined by a dice roll. the water and fire genasi personalities know of each other and know what the other does and will argue from time to time, they are unaware of the obsidian genasi, but the obsidian genasi is aware of the other two. - a literal demon who is the son of the king of demons and is rebelling against his father by being Good. (in a campaign, I would like him to realize that he actually likes being Good instead of Evil) - A Warforged Artificer who learned what it meant to be Human and hopes he can live up to what a human and a halfling did for him. Backstory G30-R63 was made during the war not to fight, but to create more Warforged. There were always Humans who would silently work alongside the Warforged Forgers to make sure that the constructs were functioning properly. One of the Humans would talk nonstop during their shift. G30-R63 did not care at first about what the Human would talk about, as they were not built to understand Human concepts. Eventually they found themselves understanding what the Human was talking about, and they started asking questions. It went on like this for a couple of "decades", and they continued to understand more and more human concepts from Human Susan. They noticed how "she" changed shape and looks, aging as she put it. In her last days Human Susan asked G30-R63 if he would like a "name". They were confused at first, as they thought G30-R63 was their name. From that moment on, she called him George. George soon noticed that he started having thoughts of his own, other than what was programmed. A few weeks went by before Human Susan stopped coming to work. He did not think much of it, as Humans would often take "Vacations". After a month he asked the Halfling who was working Human Susan's shift in place of her what happened to Human Susan. The worker gave him an odd look before going back to his work. George continued to ask the new Human each day once a day what happened to Human Susan. Eventually the Halfling told him in a raised voice with eyebrows close together that Susan had been killed. George had never heard of this term before, so asked the Halfling what that meant. The Halfling refused to tell him, and commanded him to not ask again, so he did not. After a few days, the Halfling told him the meaning of killed, even going as far as telling him that when a Human is killed, they cannot be fixed and reactivated like a Construct could. George felt something different when he heard that. He told the Halfling so, as he was confused by the 'feeling'. The Halfling told him it was probably sadness. The Halfling started to talk to him after that, telling him that Human Susan was his "wife"., eventually telling him what that meant. Halfling Lenard started to teach him what it meant to be Human. One day the Humanoids stopped coming. All the other Warforged continued to work, but George was curious why the Humans stopped coming, so he left his station and left to search for answers. When he left the factory, he was surprised to find that the world around him was bleak and gray instead of what Susan and Lenard had described. He wandered the landscape but could find no signs of life. He did find some more Warforged with similar stories to his own, and together they searched for weeks. Eventually they found what the humans had described as water. There was a factory nearby full of deactivated Warforged. There was also a boat, which they managed to get working. George traveled on the boat until he found land. This land was how the humanoids described it to be. The Warforged all agreed to split up to find the humanoids. Whenever he found humanoids, they would run screaming shouting "they're back". He did not understand why these humanoids were so afraid of him and felt sad. At one point a bunch of humans started chasing him, driving him into a cave and blocking him inside. He tried to get out to no avail, so in order to conserve energy, as he no longer had access to the sun, he deactivated himself. George had no clue how long he waited before he ran out of battery. During this time moving pictures went through his mind. One day the mouth of the cave was opened and the moving pictures stopped. His battery had started to recharge, but he could not move just yet. The Elves that found him took to a different place to clean him up. Eventually he had enough battery power to ask them questions. No one remembered the war the Warforged were made for, but they suspected that it ended hundreds of years ago when the gods came to rule the world. Once he had enough battery power, he asked the Elves if he could go and explore this new world and he left. He made it his goal to try to be as human as he could.

That Aurora and Umbra, Yin and Yang twin character sounds freaking amazing. Just picture the tactical advantage you could have if your roll caused a switch mid quest.

Ok the twins one was so cool! I'm definitely going to use this concept. What if the hag took just one of the babies bodies, so both twins know who the body actually belongs to. The angsty one is aware that they're in the wrong body. So they're Reckless and self destructive out of jealousy. The other, is really empathetic and hopeful. They could have shared ambitions and make use of their respective strengths, or maybe they would sabotage each other. There are so many character dynamics they could have. This is such a cool concept. Reminds me of: Taravangian & Shallan from the Stormlight Archive, Mr. Robot, jeckyll and Hyde, The Midnight Plan of the Repo Man, Altogether Andrews from the Discworld, Anders from Dragon age. All a little different from this, but great characters nonetheless.

I'm about to start playing next week in a 5e campaign with my Warforged Warlock: Paprika. She sold her "soul" to a trickster god in order to become human, but she (as expected) got bamboozled. This god made her only look like a human, but her insides are still the ones of a machine. She now roams the land in the search of a powerful wizard that can cast True Polymorph on her. The thing is... The trickster god made her immune to any kind of polymorph. By giving him an amulet which casts the disguise self spell on her, he also made Paprika unable to polymorph. The only way to become a real human is by dying, and that's when the trickster god will take her soul good night.

That dual personality character is indeed one of the best character concepts I've ever heard

So I feel like I have an interesting idea for a race, it takes a Tefiling and Aasimar, and puts the two together (I.E one parent is a Aasimar and the other a Tefling) I am still trying to figure out how to make it come true but I think it would be an interesting race.

I was wondering. I'm a fan of fantasy stories and I'm new to D&D (just heard it recently; never gone to sessions), I had this one character in mind, she's a living armor. The story behind her character is the armor was animated because of the memories and emotions of a deceased cleric named Rachel Meldermann who used to wear the armor. The armor assumed the cleric's name in a shortened version as: "Ciel Dermann" (pun intended), the armor only uses a shield as a weapon because Rachel had a regret regarding holding weapons (that's a story for another time). My real question is: Is it possible for a living armor to talk? Is my story valid for my character?

Some ideas of mine. -Fighter/Bard who acts like a drill sergent. Instead of normal tunes he sings marching songs. His idea of a Bardic -Inspiration is to scream "Come on you apes, do you wanna live forever!?" -L1 War Cleric with the rest put into Divine Soul Sorc. Thought he gained his powers from a god, but they were innate. He's seeking his unknown father. -Noble Birth Barbarian. Dress in fine clothing and speaks in a refined manner and calls Rage 'Focused Fury'. He renames all his abilities as something refined/noble. Can come in a Monk flavor as a boxer. -Warforged Fighter/Paladin/Cleric in full, covering armor. Pretends to be human who cannot show his face for religious reasons. -Orc/Half-Orc Paladin; speaks in a refined manner and acts in a lawful good manner. -Warlock who doesn't know how he made a contract, who or what he made it with and is worried what the cost is/will be. -Halfling Rouge who's a bounty hunter. -Succubus Cleric; hiding as an elf and wanting to fight the forces of hell. -Eldrich Knight Fighter (Maybe with Wizard or Sorc thrown in), son of an evil warlord. He attempted to help rebels agianst his father's reign but they backstabbed him before failing in their attack. He survived only because of a kindly cleric but was discovered. He escaped but the cleric was killed in the scuffle.

A goblin monk who has a background of an archeologist, he’ll get distracted by the cravings in dungeons. The only reason he learned to fight was because other goblins would make fun of him.

So here's my character, a Rouge that prefers to destroy and dismantle rather than steal and pick locks. On one of the earlier sessions, we had to steal a suitcase carrying some information from this Noble, so I took to the job. The Noble was on a horse drawn carriage and I asked the DM if I could unbolt the wherls, a few high rolls later, and the carriage crashed down, the wheels falling off and the suitcase in my hands.

I made a gnome druid on reroll who thinks he Is a very small elf, as he was raised with them.

I have a few character concepts myself The first one A rogue type character suffering from split personality disorder switching between Azril a charming guy almost like A bard but he is a thief and Mr BlackThorn a mysterious lord dressed in a long trench coat and a top hat with a face with a big mouth full of sharp teeth and one eye of red colour his face is always blurred out using a combination of illusion and see through cloth. Second one Rasaroo A psychopath ( chaotic evil ) who is aggressive and manipulative he is supposed to be with a good party as a group of wizards who he offended cursed him to protect and follow the group ( other pc,s ) where he would have to keep up a facade and maybe after a long time become good? Never played DND, but already have a character for whenever I find a party. Her name is Jasmine Nightshade, and she is a Drow warlock. This is her story. As a child, she and her mother fled from their home kingdom. Her mother, Saffron, wanted her child to have a life away from the hateful and dark ways of their people. Jasmine’s father had been a cruel man, stealing from innocent people and hurting anyone who tried to stop him. Saffron ran when she discovered she was pregnant, taking refuge with an old couple in a far town. But in the night, when Jasmine was only 12 years old, a group of traveling bandits kidnapped them both. Her mother tried to protect her, but they got separated. Saffron was sold to a king to be a chambermaid, and Jasmine never saw her again, assuming her dead. A small jade pendant necklace which she never takes off is now the only thing she has left of her mother. Jasmine on the other hand was sold to a cult, and forced to sell her soul. But her mother had taught her what it meant to be kind, and what gods were good and true. So she tricked the cult leaders, and although she lost her soul that day, she knew it was to a supernatural force that might protect her and lead her to the right path. Bob Ross. Bob is a good patron, with few requirements. He asks her to spread the magic of creativity and kindness, and create art once a day. This could be painting, drawing, song, dance, anything as long as it comes from good. She can’t use her magic to directly cause harm, but Jasmine likes it this way. She has been surrounded by cruelty nearly her whole life, and spreading more of it doesn’t sit right with her. Years went by, and Jasmine grew up. She became close with one of the slave girls, a human named Kendra. Kendra was kind, honest, and good. Jasmine fell in love with her. One night Jasmine asked Kendra if she wanted to run away together, to live in the forest and be free. But Kendra betrayed her. She told the cult leader, who Jasmine now knows to be the girl’s father. At the age of 56, 44 years after being taken, Jasmine ran. And killed the love of her life in the process. For a long time she lived as a nomad, searching for knowledge and trying to find her way in life alone. She found little help, understandably. Her people have a bad reputation for good reason. She had no one left, and was too afraid to trust again. She had no time for petty revenge, it would bring her nothing but further pain. She spent the long nights alone in the cold and dark. Eventually she found a wounded fox cub while travelling down a deserted path through the Misty Grove. She took the cub in, healing and caring for it. She gave it immortality with the help of her patron, Bob Ross. She finally had someone else to call her own, and she wouldn’t give it up for anything. She named the little fiend Pthalo, and they now serve as her familiar and a way to communicate with Bob. One day she was walking through a nearby town getting some painting supplies when she came across a strange tiefling monk boy and a drow girl. The boy bounded up to her and said, “saffron what are you doing here? I thought you were in the castle bakery?” Jasmine was floored. “Y-you know my mother?” The drow girl came up to them. “Caspian I don’t think that this lady is Saffron.” Jasmine is in shock. “My mother’s name was saffron. I thought she was dead.” The drow girl turned to her. “Miss, you look remarkably similar to my father, King Aether’s head baker. She practically raised Caspian and I. I must ask you to come with us, and have some tea.” Jasmine accepted, still in shock at the prospect of seeing her mom again after nearly fifty years. The drow girl introduced herself as Lusserina, the princess of the kingdom. The tiefling’s name was Caspian, and even though they were technically married because royalty reasons both of them were very gay and had more of a sibling relationship. Jasmine told them her story, and became the king’s personal artist. She reconnected with her mom, and even fell in love again with Lusserina. Caspian became her best friend, and all was well. Until day Lusserina disappeared. The king called in help and they discovered that she had been taken, kidnapped. Jasmine was not about to let someone she loved be stolen from her again, so she and Caspian set out to find her. This was the premise of a campaign me and my boyfriend (who would play Caspian) had planned to play, but both our third party member and my boyfriend were very non committal so the dm and I gave up. Kobold who was born into a large ribcage has never moved in his life and used his natural sorcery to keep himself fed until he got level 5 magic and animated the skeleton witch now moves for him keeps foes away and provides 3/4 cover

James: An incredible famous human bard who harbours a dark secret... He has no talent of his own, instead he made a deal with a Succubus named Cerises who shares his body. Their symbiotic relationship is kept mostly secret as James fears if this is discovered he will be executed. Also him and Cerises are lovers, just to spice things up.

My best one so far has been a Goliath bloodhunter who wields a giant war hammer and breaks his hands, kneecaps, and collar bones mid battle. The blood magic comes from all the internal bleeding which comes to be pretty funny

I had a concept for a fractured demon. Each fragment became a sentient magical item that attempts to charm its wielder to help it become whole again. Along the path to become whole the magical items will also try to coax the hosts to fight the most powerful beings possible of wielding them, always on the search for a more powerful host.

The twins that share a body remind me of a character a fellow player has in our current campaign. He’s a warforged but he has a glitch that causes him to switch between two separate personalities. The player rolls two dice (each representing one personality) whenever an event happens that might cause one personality to “come out”. The higher dice roll becomes the dominant personality for that event. In the rare event that the dice are the same number, he becomes his true self - both personalities in harmony. The characters always know which personality is out because his eyes change colors depending on the dominant one. It’s really fun to roleplay and keeps combat interesting because one is a fighter personality while the other is a healer personality.

I once found a homebrew race called Dvati, that was basically a soul too big to fit in a single body, so twins were born with one soul between them. They're basically the same person since they share a soul and thus a personality, it was actually really well made and not overpowered, they shared initiative and had a single action, bonus action and 45ft of movement between them, but if they have multi attack the attacks can be split between the two bodies I would love to use this race with the Echo Knight if possible (flavoured as the soul being abnormally powerful and maleable even for Dvati, so they can shape it into the echoes), but I'd have to find a dm who would allow the race
