Ear defenders always for me. Dust mask a fair bit, if the wind is blowing strong and it's not a plume of dust then I don't mind not using the dust mask (whenever I can wet cut, I will always do it). Goggles sometimes, I should wear them more but they always seem to scratch bad!

Apparently, I've just got some anti scratch glasses so I'm hoping these solve that issue. We'll see

Dust mask first, I wouldn’t be alive without it: I work in restauration with lime mortar in an urban areas with no wind, plus with the quick latch mask from 3M, it’s the easiest to set it place. Second, the ear protection, too many rock concerts and masonry, I’m now stock with tinnitus (still bearable) so it is an essential if I want a social life 😅. And last, protection glasses. I hate to clean them many times a day because I can’t stand not seing clearly. Should wear them all the time for sure but I don’t, especially when doing cuts. I know I’m pushing my luck and need to improve on that. Thank you Rob for worrying about the safety of your fellow masons !!! 😊

True class and integrity! Definitely appreciated Rob! I’m a Union Bricklayer in NYC and I choose the MSA full face shield/ respirator combo whilst cutting on the wet saw. Glasses will always fog and shards bounce under anyway. I also wear those same 3m muffs as they fit with the mask on and of course gloves. I’m a Shop Steward on most jobs I’m on and always stress these health and safety aspects to the young men and women coming in the trade, and am quick to tell the foreman to jog on when saying I’m preaching to long. Never forget my first night job on a roof top seeing the dust storm in the work lights. If we don’t care for our own these companies throw us in the meat grinder. “Or on your tombstone neatly lacquered “. Be safe all , God bless.

I’m doing my level 2 bricklaying at college , only just started using safety google to cut bricks 😮went through my whole level 1 cutting bricks with the hammer & bolster putting my eyes at risk without knowing , but now as I do more decorative brickwork, more cuts are required so I’m always using my goggles! And gloves are great for me , prevents cuts, scratches and doesn’t ruin my hands + keeps my hands clean! Good & important video!

@deathblaster6679 Pleased to hear that. When you get onto sites do not let the bullies and macho-idiots try and persuade you that P.PE isn`t needed..............IT IS.......ALWAYS. And dont forgets your mask. I`m an old-school geezer and I have lost 3 friends to lung disease caused by Asbestos and silicosis, and its a truly ghastly way to die. Always prioritise your health over anything else and I wish you a long & successful career on the blade.

I bought a full face mask as I was doing refurbs often so a lot of dust was involved so I protect all three now that’s the best bet because it doesn’t steam up either best £40 I’ve spent

You can look away, hold your breath, and work upwind but you can't close your ears. Personally the goggles come on first, because a single sliver of anything can cost you an eye, even if it is from someone else accidentally dropping something and sending a fragment flying your way, or just the wind blowing cement in your face. There is a big sign at the entrance of any construction lot here in NL, indicating the requirement for all the safety gear. Not using what is needed is cause for dismissal. There was a big push in the 90s when it was realized how many thousands of tradesmen had to collect disability for work-related injuries.

Dust mask at all times they are necessary. NO exceptions. Silicosis, is a horrid way to die, and it will be painful and debilitating while you die...
@samhartfieldlewis52473 ай бұрын
Wear all 3 whenever cutting, skimming, drilling. When ever sweeping up always my mask. Keep them in my bucket mask in a roll up sealed bag. The time it takes too sort out and put on doesn’t matter. Look after yourself that’s that.

Never worn ear defenders ever and probably never will,used to never wear dust protection still mostly don`t especially outside but do try to use my brain now and again and wear a mask as I do know it's not clever but sometimes it's just seems time consuming to go to van and get mask especially for a few cuts and as for eye protection well that's usually a case of where did I put them glasses on bollicks to it and crack on regardless so all in all definitely need to work on my PPE but thanks for the heads up sometimes it good to be given food for thought especially when you need it

All three unless it's not loud in which case ear defenders are optional. If you wear a proper full face respirator then you can breathe easy and your vision won't go steamy like it can do wearing dust masks and goggles. No point playing roulette with your health.
@tonyrooke3 ай бұрын
For me, its always glasses, as even a second of grinding could throw something in my eye. If I was doing multiple cuts or indoors then it was all three.

Mask 1: if you ruin your lungs your buggered, eyes 2. If you loose your sight will impact your life a lot more than your ears! So ear defenders 3.

The worst thing is, in the summer when you're on site, and you're wearing the full shabang + hard hat, gloves, long trousers etc!! With the proper JSP masks you can hardly fit all the gear on your face!.. and when the goggles start steaming up!! Horrible

Look at it from a different perspective it’s ironic that safety gear actually takes away some of your five senses like hearing sight etc

No - just look at it sensibly. Proper fitted P.PE should not do that.

Goggles, mask, muffs. No brainier. Eye loss can be instantaneous, lung and ear damage more slow. I got lime in my eye few years back, not funny at all, very lucky and straight to A&E for litres of sugar water flush out. Never do anything without eye protection now.
