I just found you. I’ve been a nurse for 30 years, most has been in the hospital; from med surg, LTAC, rehab, ER, charge nurse over orthopedic unit etc… I’ve been an RN supervisor in a nursing home over the last year. Have an opportunity to be a DON. This is all very different than hospital nursing as you know. Luckily, in the position I am currently in, I’ve gotten to know the staff, ADON, residents and administrator. I’m wanting to know all I can about the DON position and the most important aspects of the business part, that I should know. So many questions lol. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. God bless! ❤

I just took a position as DON of a large 80,ooo square four facility with facility with an LTAC and a Skilled facility. I need help getting started and I am devouring your videos. I start on May 20 and they just went through a survey with complaints and yearly. I don't know very much about surveys. What is going to be my biggest resource regarding surveys? I so appreciate your expertise thank you so much for your support and wisdom.

I just came across your page and I’m new to the position of DON and I’m still a little lost. I’m trying to figure out how to go from floor nurse to leader. I could really use your advice.
@bilquisali
@bilquisali Жыл бұрын
I totally can understand and relate. As a floor nurse, you are a doer. Your mindset must change in these positions. You’re no longer the doer. You are the identifier, planner, observer, the checker, DELEGATOR, that’s a big one. You have to release the floor nurse and shift the mindset to leader. You are going to want to continue to be the support person for your team. However, you need to recognize that you can do everyone else job but everyone is not able to do yours. If you are at the same facility as you were as a floor nurse, be sure to have a meeting to re introduce yourself bc the role has changed and so have your expectations. If you want to talk further, send me an email consultant@welcometolong-termcare.com

Hello! I recently accepted a position for ADON. How is my role different than the DON and also how do I support my DON?
@bilquisali
@bilquisali Жыл бұрын
Hello Sarah. It’s important that you get a clear understanding of what the expectation is for you in your role. Duties are typically divided between you and the DON. In order for you to best support him/her you must first know what your responsibilities are bc they are different depending on the needs of the facility. Once you receive this information, please send me an email. I can assist you with a plan for you to be successful. Thank you very much.

😂😂😂 it takes time and patience. The work will be there. Focus on one thing at a time. Delegate and follow through. Lol. When I first started, I quit every day lol. I had to change my mindset completely in order to grow and develop into the role. Don’t feel guilty. That adds to the burnout and I definitely can relate to it
