When the return was worse than the investment for me, I left. Yeah I miss the scenery, cultural diversity, and potentials, but without a secure financial future how would I start a family and give them the life I have always desired to give them? I moved back to the Midwest temporarily and am looking into Texas for the economic opportunity while still getting some diversity. i had a lot of problems in the US for being asian too. they think of it as a joke but they don't know that it is serious for us. when people make racists actions towards black people they will start a movement about it but when they are racist towards asian people will just think its a joke. i once went to a school counselor and he told me that its all jokes and that i shouldn't be bothered by it. it still happens til this day but im adapting because i cant control what they think about me i just accept everything they say. its sad but racism is a big part of US.

The comments about racism have some truth to them. It's true that US systematically discriminates against black people a LOT more, but it's also true that being racist toward Asians is a LOT more socially acceptable than toward black people. So if you're just living in Korea and hearing about all the racist experiences Asians have, you might think the way those people did.

Might I say though that while racism directed at asians may be less taboo, the actual discrimination that each group faces is waay different. For example, many americans have an overall positive view of asian people as hard working, industrious, and well mannered. So while insensitive jokes may be more common towards asian people, they are also far less likely to experience things like financial or legal discrimination because of their race. While you rarely hear people make racial jokes about black americans in public because it’s such a taboo, we have a long and ugly history of prejudice in this country painting black people as violent and uneducated. And thus they are much more likely to be mistreated by police, or denied a loan, for example. This is just my anecdotal experience, but Id say black people have a much harder time with racism and discrimination in America than asian people do (broadly speaking of course, there are always exceptions)

“asians are more discriminated against than black people” i’ve seen ppl in the comments comparing the oppression of asian americans and black americans which isn’t a fair discussion considering we experience oppression in different ways. asian americans have always faced more subtle oppression, due to racism against us being heavily normalized. we don’t see the same amount of media coverage bc the media only covers what they think will get them the most clout, which is y we see such a large emphasis on black american issues (blm). i’ve also seen ppl in this comment section arguing that asians are the model minority and therefore receive better treatment from white people. actually, this gives white people the impression that they can jokingly be racist towards us and we also get more racism from other people of color bc of this. we cannot compare the black experience to the asian experience bc they happen in two majorly different settings. edit: another thing to consider are the hate crimes. while i feel like we shouldnt compare the experiences of both, we must face the reality that black ppl experience more violent racism. their oppression is much more apparent and from the beginning, have always taken the direct hit.

@@Libturd which is y we as asian americans and asians around the world must stand in solidarity for blm. they take the hardest hits in my opinion throughout the history of this country (america), maybe only rivaled by the suffering of indigenous peoples (not that its a race or anything, those two peoples have just suffered the worst historically). i do think black ppl have it worst than asians in amwrica specifically, but i felt like the comparison of oppression has so many factors to consider and would therefore be inaccurate for me to compare. idk if that makes sense.

Couldn't agree more. This whole discrimination Olympics is exactly what the racist white folk want: minorities tearing each other apart. They already succeeded on some level with curtailing affirmative action, convincing a subset of Asian Americans that they are discriminated in education. And if we are being serious, it's actually cruel to compare Asian Americans to a people whose first footsteps on these shores were in bondage, and whose history was marked by some of the most unimaginable, inhumane practices in human history. Speaking as an Asian American, I would never ever directly compare my struggles with Black Americans.

I don't think we need to even compare because of all the tension between the black and asian community, comparing oppression will just make things worse.. in my opinion though, asians will say they have it worse and black people will say they have it worse and that's because they've never experienced eachothers' issues so you would never know but this is only in the u.s. worldwide, black people would be the most oppressed race because of skin color, facial features and hair are against everyone's standard not to mention the history of slavery for the sole purpose that they are black that existed in many countries (and stereotypes that we all carry guns to shoot people and are super aggressive) edit: nope black people definitely experience more racism in the u.s than any other race, take slavery and the segregation laws for example that used to exist

I wouldn't doubt this because America is a really big place, but I highly doubt this would happen randomly where I live. Surely there are stereotypes, and there are reasons stereotypes exist, but in my experience if a minority comes into the neighborhood and is living a respectable life, things will be really good for them. We recently had a Hmong shaman move in near us in Wisconsin, their lifestyle is different but they are respectable people so everyone accepts them. *Keep in mind that many of the Hmong are very new immigrants as well and the old almost never speak English*

There’s an unfortunately side effect of mass diversity and that is a difficulty in assimilation. America is it’s own country with its own culture, obviously we accept all people of all creeds colors and religions, but it’s impossible to do that without schisms. It doesn’t help that the media benefits off of the heated division between the races, political parties, and religions. They perpetuate and stoke the flames and make it seem worse than it actually is. If you visit America you’ll find that wherever you go, people are generally friendlier and more gracious than if you were to go to another country. Americans are known for being kind to strangers the majority of us are not resists, rude, or aggressive. It’s an unfortunate stereotype that fails to actually anchor in reality.

Jonathan Garcia Exactly. The media always makes the US seem worse than it actually is. The media can only thrive by reporting disasters, disease, and doomsday. Racism is the topic that seems to get the most attention nowadays to the point where people are creating fake hate crimes for their 15 minutes of fame. Sure there is racism but racism is everywhere. Even in homogenous societies colorism develops.

Going to a business only owned by people of a certain race, hiring someone of a certain race because they're that race, sending aid to families of a certain race and so on. Right now we're seeing an uptick in crimes against asian people (read what's happening in seattle) because asians are wrongly viewed as easy targets that don't fight back. There's also anecdotal experiences of those in entertainment, that get targeted and people trying to suppress their business or steal clients primarily because it promotes positive asian image (ever wonder why 5% percent of the population with the most money and education somehow gets barely any positive representation in the western media?)

I feel like this is pretty interesting as an Asian American to watch. In Korea, they have the perception that racism is pretty bad here, but I can vouch for myself and say if anything, people are more excited about Asian culture! More people are learning Asian languages, meeting more people from that culture, and I think it is definitely heading more on the positive side!

The northern part of my state where I live compared to to the southern (400 miles) is like a different universe considering everything they spoke about and more.

I'd say they have good reason to. Remember the Arab Spring uprisings? it was brought on by Social Media, with perhaps some encouragement behind the scenes from US gov't. Edward snowden's revelations already confirms that US gov't uses the internet not only to spy on China , Russia and on American allies, and even on American citizens living inside the borders. @@apollonian802 I've lived and worked in USA for more than 30 years, while I do say the Internet for now is still relatively free, I'd say many aspects of American life is not free. For instance, all usable land within the US border is actually property of the US gov't. Even if you "Buy" a property, the gov't can take it away for tax reasons, for development etc... Land rights, mineral rights, oil rights. The Rich get richer, by paying off politicians to give them such rights, so that they can become even richer. With American elections dominated by Big Money interest groups; with the way the Electoral College is set up, the so called American Democracy is not really democratic at all. Special interest groups, big money is how you get elected and re-elected in the USA. Once elected, Waging war, making sweeping economic and political changes, the incumbents rarely put it to a vote to the people, and often times the people are the last to know about such changes.

Man, this is a heartbreaking video, especially the part where the participants believe the US is racist and would be so against them. In my experience, the Americans I've met regard Asian people highly. Americans love Asian products for their quality, they buy them up so much that I'm not aware of an American television manufacturer currently existing. Asian culture produces very intelligent, hard working, respectful people who are not looking to make frivolous trouble. This applies to the individuals, not necessarily current or past governments. The misconception will just take more time to go away I guess.

I'm always open minded about others comments and how they feel about America. I have to say we don't like war. Americans want to live peacefully. We don't want to be the guardians of any country. Americans love to see other nations resolve their problems. We have our own. But if called I will to this day give my life to ensure any countries people being mistreated or harmed in anyway here in America or abroad you can count on me to step in and help. Americans feel everyone has a right to live their lives as they please.

SOME Americans feel everyone has a right to live their lives as they please. Far more americans are bigoted than people in some european countries, for example. Most of us have problems with racism, but many of us are way ahead when it comes to equality and racism. Like, far ahead. I think it would do many american people good to look further than inside their borders, americans, and people who know almost nothing about america, think that it's the best country in the world. However, the other countries, that aren't poor, who follow everything that happens in america, mostly hate america. Actions speak louder than words, and we see the shit that happens everyday, who your people voted for president, and we wish the people who get affected by all the racism, the inequality, the homophobia, transphobia, all sort of hate crimes and hate speech will be able to endure this episode with Trump as president. That maybe one day when the whole world has gotten rid of these racist forces (becasue they're everywhere, in every european country, because of the syrian refugees), we'll be better than we've ever been before. Maybe we'll live in a world that actually reflects that everyone is of the same worth. For that to happen, we need "the best country in the world" to set an example. Sooner rather than later.
