Summary: So a tatoo isn't just some drawing on your skin, all your cells (macrophages/white blood cells) in your skin are actually constantly working to contain the ink on the same spot because the cells can't get rid of it but don't want it to spread either.

I remember a cadaver I had the opportunity learn from years ago. They had multiple tattoos on their body. Remember our TA pulling the skin back so we could see the tattoo on dermis. What we didn't expect was seeing evidence of the tattoo ink embedded in the muscle layer. It wasn't all of the tattoo but you could definitely make out the basic shape of the tattoo.

I liked this video and have seen others that you've done. I'm a professor in a school of nursing, and I appreciate how you can explain A&P in a way that makes sense to a lay person - also appreciate the cadavers. One thing I was hoping you would touch on in this one is the heavy metals that are in all tattoo inks - each color has a predominance of a specific heavy metal. They have been linked to increased sensitivity in general in people, including joint replacements when they become necessary - that good ol' well-meaning inflammatory process.

My father considered it while on his deathbed. I think it was mainly to save money for funeral expenses so my mom would have more in the bank. But my son was employed at a medical research facility where a lot of these remains end up and I didn't want my dad cut up into bits as it was described to me and thrown into an incinerator anonymously . We opted for cremation at a cemetery but no big fancy funeral.

@@alguemaleatorio8713 I wouldn’t say it was for nothing. The video accomplishes exactly what it was meant to do, which is to teach you about tattoos in a more in depth way than what most people would normally be used to. You can also use some of the information in the video to maybe pass an anatomy or biology final, if you are in that circumstance (this is said as a generality, not directly specifically to you in case that was lost in translation). Yes, it’s a bit disappointing to not see the graph tattooed, but it was very likely just not an option.

I find it rather disingenuous that a person that should know the human body better than most is saying tattoos are neither good nor bad. Especially when you know for a fact that the body’s immune system actively tries to get rid of them. How can anyone look at this and objectively say tattoos are good or not bad, especially when you realize they’re functionally useless? They do nothing except to elicit a certain aesthetic.

@@Laura-ob4om That’s reaching. Art is necessary. Tattoos are not. The human body and its design is a work of art in and of itself. Putting tattoos on it is akin to vandalizing a building with spray paint. But it’s even worse because you’re purposely introducing a foreign, inorganic substance into the body that it is not designed to break down. How the body responds to tattoos should be a telling indicator of how they should be treated.

Exactly our Body is God's temple, to invite God to live in our Heart ,for our own good and wellness ,but people prefer to deal with what the evil world offers due the lack knowledge about a wonderful God, not appreciated for the whole humanity!!!! So far the Young People are living a huge emptynees in their lives ,falling in drugs , confusion about weird narratives against God from media and goverment following an agenda even some not to young ,fill their emptiness graffiting their body like dirty Wall ,it doesn't look nice is Not cool, is an horrible copy cat issue, but their demons ask for more and more body graffiting . . . They don't even please themselves just obey ....

@@jamesbennett5587You're likely talking about Leviticus 19:28, “You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves.” This isn't about tattoos. This is about a process called scarification. Which was heavily practiced among "Pagans" of the era. Two totally different things not to be confused.

how can ink going into your lymph nodes not be bad? everything he said here to reassure people is hypothetical, they don't know for a fact that it's safe, and also now that I know what's happening to the poor macrophages, it's even worse than I thought. Our macrophages are our first line of defense in our immune systems, and this ink stuff basically "paralyzes" them. He is anthropormorphically interpreting that to mean that the macrophage is "containing" the ink, which is completely stupid imo, the macrophages are build to destroy pathogens that enter our bodies, and they have a number of ways of doing that. Since ink does not respond to those methods, the macrophage is basically rendered helpless and stuck with ink inside of it with no place to go. I seriously doubt the macrophages are "herding" the ink. I think what he's saying here is irresponsible and he should put a disclaimer that this is not scientific fact. I took immunology, toxicology, adv ochem, etc recently, and just can't buy this. If anyone uses common sense, we all know they can't be that good, and jpeople are looking for someone to tell them that they are safe for some reason

Im a tattoo artist and found this very interesting! Every time i felt i needed to comment something he would mention it, everything except why stretching the skin during a tattoo is so important? Its like drawing on a deflated balloon. If you dont stretch it out, it doesnt turn out right.

I’m not a science teacher or anything but my guess is that the dense cells on the epidermis creates crinkles in the skin and the tattoo tool needs smooth surface to properly glide the ink. It’s like trying to iron a shirt that came right out of the dryer without straighten it out- the iron wouldn’t be able to effectively smooth out the wrinkles without you straighten out the shirt
