I thought the reason they all sound the same is the voice processing filter in the helmet, I assumed that you had people with all sorts of weird accents and different voices but the vocoder only really differentiates the actual speech patterns (speed/choice of words) but assume in training this is standardized as a form of coms etiquette training (use easy to annunciate words, keep things brief, don't "umm or uhhh" excessively, etc.)

@aidanshelton4491
@aidanshelton4491 2 жыл бұрын
This actually does make a lot of sense, especially because of how neutral the accent is. People from core worlds had a tendency to sound more British, supposedly because higher education was more common, while people from the outer rim generally had a very Australian or southeastern American accent, supposedly because they spent more time working than learning. With that considered, just like in the real world, people from the outer rim would enlist more frequently than people from the core because it would get them away from whatever backwater planet they lived on. However, you don’t ever really hear any extreme accents from either the core or the outer rim, so this explanation covers that pretty well.
@tk-6967
@tk-6967 2 жыл бұрын
@@aidanshelton4491 I don't think that is quite the case. Tarkin, for example, is from Eriadu, an Outer Rim planet. We know that he always sounded like that as he was a young adult when going to the Core to become a Judicial so I doubt that had much of an effect. Compare that to Motti (I think he was the one who got choked by Vader for mocking the force) who is very much a core worlds guy, and his accent is distinctly american. Somehow the Jedi seemed to have retained their original homeworld accents rather than there being a default, which tells us that Obi Wan, who doesn't come from the core, already would've had that accent (and yes one could argue his accent stems from Qui Gon, but as a Brit I don't see the correlation between their different British accents). On Naboo there seems to be a big mix of accents, mostly being british and american but we know that there is some Polynesian accent going on with Capt. Typho.

From what I remember, female Stormtroopers were an oddity, meaning exceedingly rare. Even in the Military Officers Corps, there aren't that many and let's be honest, the one who tried never actually won a battle, but instead incurred losses and defeat everytime she engaged the New Republic forces. The only thing of lasting contribution was that she had managed to use subterfuge and guile to eliminate most of the bickering warlords and reunite the Imperial Remnants under a single banner. However after realizing that she wasn't cut out for this kind of thing, and perhaps after having lost the Knight Hammer and a sizeable chunk of what passed for the Imperial Navy trying to destroy Skywalker's Praxeum, left Vice Admiral Gilad Pellaeon to put things back together again. This was Admiral Daala, who basically got her job by being Grand Moff Tarkin's mistress. A good and competent female strategist was Ysanne Isard, though she came up through the political office and supplanted her father to become head of COMPNOR and essentially defacto head of the Empire. She also was in charge of the infamous Lusankya prison that brainwashed people into becoming sleeper agents which was a cool idea as it hadn't been seen in Star Wars at the time the old X-wing books were written and it makes sense since "Iceheart" was also head spymaster. But I digress...

@@satrethuel_productions in the sequels the fact the the first order has been stripping their worlds of youths for their army easily sets up the idea that they are more likely to "recruit/kidnap females just to meet quotas. Women in combat roles has often been a desperate solution in our own history in places where they would otherwise never be considered. It's also a plausible reason for seeing more women in the rebelion/resistance, they are the definition of desperate and if there was any discrimination to begin with its not likely they would reject an able body.

Given the size of the army, having everyone generally the same size from a logicistics stand point makes sense. 1 suit of armor, one set of armor, able to fit one set of phyiscal praramaters + or - 5% We see this when say, wolfe, trys to put on storm trooper armor and it doesn't fit. he's gained weight so the armor doesn't fit him anymore. An interesting video. The Empire seems to have taken a practical and realistic approach to recruitment with women joining the Stormtrooper Corp. The requirements are what they are to maintain combat effectiveness, any less would put the lives of soldiers at risk. If a woman passes the requirements, great, she joins. Isila Drutch's account is actually VERY close to some real-world details. In the Canadian Armed Forces (which is a fully-integrated army; women can serve in all the same positions as men) the ratios of men-to-women are roughly the same - but they're also different, and the Empire might be similar; A Company is 3 Platoons, which usually shakes out to about 100-150 people when you account for all the squads or sections of troops plus their command and support personnel. The regiment I served in just so happened to have 3-4 women in it per 100 members (with about 1/4 of them in administrative roles as clerks and supply technicians), compared to Drutch's 3. Between my unit and some others, it was roughly a 1/25, 1/30 ratio. However, mine was also an infantry regiment, part of the "combat arms" (troops whose purpose is to make direct contact with the enemy), but in non-combat arms units you would often find much higher ratios of women. Medics, technicians, administrative units, pilots, and so forth had ratios generally above 1/20 and sometimes as high as 1/10. This is mostly down to the CAF being a volunteer force (as many, but not all, Storm Troopers were) wherein you didn't just sign up for 'the army' but to specific regiments that did specific jobs; artillery, intelligence analysis, military police, infantry, armoured, etc. etc. and most women simply chose jobs other than the infantry.

You nailed it, @DerpsWithWolves. Many females that join the military fully realize there are far more opportunities than just infantry. The smart ones do some research in advance and gravitate toward fields of interest that they know they can excel at. Some however, feel they need to prove a point and if they wash out in a particular field, blame "The System" and say the rules all are sexist, patriarchal dogma, when the rules have in fact been overhauled in their favour. If a 180lb woman (or man) wants to be a 'door kicker' and has passed all requirements, I'm all for it. When a 120lb woman (or man) that can't carry her/his rifle for more than a mile without being winded and can't carry my wounded ass to safety in a firefight gets washed out, I'm all for it.

@@beskamir5977 Or, there's the possibility that Omega is not actually a clone of Jango Fett, but his sister. In Legends, Jango Fett actually had a sister named Arla, and she had blonde hair just like Omega. She first appeared in the comic Jango Fett: Open Seasons when we see a flashback to Jango as a kid. The Open Seasons comic was the first introduction of a lot of stuff into the lore which would later be brought into the canon, like Death Watch with the Clone Wars, and Jango's mentor Jaster Mareel with the Mandalorian. Given how all this other bits of lore from the comic got incorporated into the canon, the fact that Jango had a sister could become canon too. Not only that, but the showrunners for the Bad batch have said they are taken heavy inspiration from the Republic Commando game and books. In the Republic Commando books, there was a squad of misfit clone commandos known as Omega Squad, and they later end up becoming involved in a plotline where Jango's sister Arla turns out to still be alive. With all this in mind, the pieces are starting to fall into place as to who Omega really is.

It is, but not in the form of boobs. Armour is supposed to deflect stuff. Making two bulges that essentially trap stuff in between them is the worst armour design you could make. Having just a "bigger chest" armour works. Having something that looks like actual tits does nothing but make hits worse. So yeah, female armour with a bigger chest totally works, bigger armour that creates a "funnel" for enemy fire doesn't work at all. So "boob armour" alwas connects the two highest points of the breasts, if it's supposed to be realistic. E.g. i.pinimg.com/originals/3c/bf/e1/3cbfe13d144306e3851d47b61e2756df.jpg It's a bigger chestplate than a dude would have. But it's not two seperate mounds, like a metal bikini. It's one big chest piece. Or more modern: api.army.mil/e2/c/images/2013/02/01/280597/max1200.jpg This shape doesn't look so different for men. It just protects a different body shape. And I would think female stormtroopers wouldn't look so different from a male soldier. You can still have bikini armour, same as the Romans had sixpack armour. It's just as reasonable. It looks cool and is better than nothing. SO someone might totally go for it. But if you just look at the physics, it'S not ideal.

@@dragonpaladin5584 No, I’m kind of sick of this cod-piece-argument by now. Yes, these things did exist, but they only occupied a relatively small area between the legs, a region that will, in a fight, be relatively safe and hard to hit compared to the chest, which is a bigger and easier to hit target and making armor that directs stabs to the sternum would therefore be incredibly dumb. It would also be incredibly uncomfortable, because you would already be wearing a bunch of padding under plate armor. So boob shaped armor would be kind of like trying to wear a Bra over a sweater.

@@MountainRangerOne Not _necessarily,_ depending on how egregious it is. Plate armor is already domed to better deflect attacks, and there's no reason the curve couldn't be shifted somewhat if it was necessary to fit (or merely desired). Of course, forging cleavage into the armor could create negative curvature and funnel strikes into the center, but this could be offset with thicker armor at the center, or it could just be designed to to suggest two separate boobs without actually including the negative curvature. Either way, it would hardly be stupider than certain vanity features in historical armor.

The 501st Legion (real world) does recognize "Legacy Armor" which is cut more for women... but this is definitely not the boob/midriff pin-up armor. The slight differences are in some of the angular shapes on the helmet and chest/abdomen piece... but these were very subtle differences. I think this style fits smaller/petite women better, but there are definitely plenty of women in regular stormtrooper armor as well. If both armors suits are side by side, you really need to look carefully to even see the differences. Casual observers or fans will likely not notice they are not exactly the same. That depends on how you define 'boob armour' Eck. If you mean the 'perfectly follows the shape of each individual breast' then yes that is completely made up for style. However given that Star Wars does follow some elements of our reality - I highly doubt that every single female stormtrooper had the exact same armour as the men and that what they had was similar to a number of historical examples of female armour where the upper part of the chest plate is shaped a bit to account for a breast size that won't fit in standard armour that fits males and for a rather important reason - comfort. Case in point that we have easily seen in Star Wars - Katee Sackhoff's live action debut as Bo-Katan is actually closer to what some of the real life examples look like - albeit a tad more tailored to her exact body. Odds are that unless by chance every female stormtrooper has the exact same body type and measurements - kinda doubt it unless that's a requirement, there is likely a limited production of a slightly different chest piece that on average unless you really look - likely wouldn't tell the difference, other than maybe seeing a male and female from teh side to see part of it sticks out slightly more. If not, well then that armour is going to be incredibly uncomfortable cause I know how uncomfortable it is being a guy in something sized wrong for your chest and all, let alone what I hear from plenty of women I know who have had to wear armour (police and military) who also made it pretty clear how unpleasant it was wearing armour for any period sized for guys not them cause they were not flat.
@soaringraven0
@soaringraven0 2 жыл бұрын
Bo Katan's being more tailored makes sense because a Mandalorian's armour is somewhat sacred to them and you would want something that you wear quite a lot to be as comfortable as possible. With regards to stormtrooper armour, just making the breast plate have a deeper cavity where the chest goes (even by a little) should be a little more comfortable without looking like "boob armour".
@anthony7697

@@soaringraven0 Maybe not written the most clear, but that was more or less my point. And why I said it depended on definition. Real old school examples of female armour the upper part of the chest plate has a larger as needed cavity at the front that depending on the increase ranges from almost unnoticeable except from some angles to 'clearly needed more chest room' but still not the 'boob armour' of video games and fan art. The base line episode 4 armour is designed with some angling and space that is likely meant to be more unisex, but placed next to someone who needed one with a slightly changed chest piece for that room would be almost unnoticeable unless viewed from the side to see it sticks out slightly more.

Another Stormtrooper issue is standardized equipment. As a former Marine, I experienced being at the upper end of height limits when I was embarked on the USS Tripoli (a helicopter carrier) for eight months. Troop racks (beds) were 72 inches long and I was 75 inches long. The overhead (ceiling) was low, and I kept bumping my head on pipes and valves. Squeezing through hatches was a chore even without combat gear or floatation devices. I didn't experience the other end of the height limits, so I can't talk about how hard it would have been to undog hatches or reach for things on the work benches or other things short Marines suffered--and those who were too small to be Sailors would have needed help carrying out their duties. Now let's talk about uniforms and body armor. I worked as a contract security guard on a five-year overseas anti-terrorist mission and one of the security officers was under five feet and under 80 pounds. Finding body armor and helmet and boots small enough for her was difficult. Finding an XXL helmet for one big-headed male security officer was difficult--but I could read supply catalogs and managed to find the correct NSN for an XXL PASTG helmet. It arrived within a couple of weeks and, of course, now that security officer had to wear that damned thing sometimes. There was another issue--several of the 300 or so security officers, male or female, had small hands and they couldn't reach the trigger on their M9 pistols because their fingers were too short, and the grip was too fat and the trigger in the forward position (hammer down) was too far. I had to come up with training bandaids to match qualification course to physical handicap--having a fat pistol was a handicap. Funny, but the M1911A1 would not have had that problem. Stormtrooper physical dimensions would have limited how many human females could have been Stormtroopers. I've 20th Century American military and security guard experience (27 year military and 30 year security guard--was on reserve status for about half of those 27 years) to back up my claims. Using clone soldiers would have eased logistics with a more-standardized human body. Having factories close to the front that could produce equipment custom tailored to the soldier is a plus--today we have 3D printers and when I toured BB-60 USS Alabama (a World War Two battleship that's now a museum) there was a tailor shop on-board to customize uniforms. That still leaves the spacecraft and spaceships themselves. Had the Empire decided on Ewok clone soldiers instead of Wookie stormtroopers, they could have had smaller ships with the same crew compliment--and Imperial walkers could have been more efficient war machines. The Empire stuck with humans (for movie producers, adult humans between 64 and 72 inches are easier to hire than very small or very large actors).

Actually the US Army has had issues with body armor not fitting female frames very well. Interceptor Body Armor, used by the US since 2000, is designed with three size: Small, Medium, and Large. However, it has been found that on many women the armor doesn't sit properly. Because females generally have wider hips than males do, the plates will often rest on their hips rather than their shoulders, resulting in greater discomfort as well as less flexibility (which already aren't great even if the armor fits properly). The US Army actually went so far as to develop a variant of the Improved Outer Tactical Vest tailored to fit women. So, while boob plate is generally impractical, there would no doubt be at least subtle differences between the armor systems for males and females, simply because of the different frames the sexes have. A male plate system won't fit a woman as well and vice versa.

In mixed units, women were especially goid snipers apparently, ( think a Russian woman had the highest kill count) and the Israeli military has female soldiers since the 50s and 60s . Almost equal, but they have a draft or mandatory national service, but women worked a lot in communications and intelligence, spys, or British special operations executive SOE .a branch of military intelligence M16 a secret female army, commissioned by Winston Churchill in 1940 . I believe he had a niece of his as one of the first recruits. ( James bond type stuff) special air service SAS, or America has oss later renamed CIA. ( she and a civilian boy won medals) but its a myth woman were always on board ships . Just segregated, and they were usually married to a crew member. My great grandmother worked for the military as a nurse based in India in the 1890s , you can go back to Alexander the great. By the time he conquered Persia 40 thousand children had been born along the way . As far as i can tell woman have always been involved in warfare. Disney's Star Wars has stepped away from that entirely, and that's okay! We got some really cool characters out of it! Empire were bad guys. We can use the bad guys to showcase things as bad. When the bad guys are just "Oh, also cool just happen to wear different uniforms for a different cause" it sorta cheapens the potential to just, show off what bad guys do and how in real life...there are things bad guys tend to believe. Sure sure sure "gray areas" yadda yadda, but you can sometimes just get so gray that no one can say anything meaningful ever about what horrible things groups of people are capable of in reality. Still love that "People don't want freedom, they want safety" speech from that officer in Mandalorian to Bill Burr. I need more Imperials like that. Genuine belief in a world view that is harmful, but you can picture someone in reality holding, not just cartoonish villains that say nothing other then "we kill and oppress people". Basically, I want bad guys to be bad guys again, because I'm over this "both sides" gray area stuff when it's more obvious that real "bad guys" exist in the world.

I think Moff Gideon was great character and the actor: he is crazy good, but it could have been fun and more respectful of original Star Wars vision if he had been a "white supremacist son of bitch". If imperials are not racist white supremacist and mysonginist, if they start help the poors then... i wonder if rebel alliance will recruit much... XD The 'alien' driver in obi wan was alien considered citizen of second zone by empire and he had no real reason to like the empire so much for bringing back "some order" especially on his deserted planet... They respected this vision in Rogue One and that was great making the empire racist and mysoginistic its also a way to denounce racism & facism. In Tomothy Zhan books about Amiral Thrawn he explain well how Thrawn was tolerated as an humanoid Alien but had to prove 2X more valuable to climb the ranks of empire hierarchy.

Technically that Female Soldiers do exist in reality as well. They do need female soldiers for the galaxy in universe since they can't keep relying on male only a lot. There are some females in the Rebellion like Leia, female soldier in Endor Strike Team, Mon Montha, and a Female Technician in ESB in Original Trilogy as well. They never specified the entire Stormtroopers were just male only in The Empire in The Original Trilogy. It's not just the First Order that added Female Soldiers fighting. Some of the Original Trilogy era did have Female Soldiers existed like in Rebels, The Mandalorian (I think it was at Moff Gideon's Ship), Obi-Wan Kenobi (there was a female Stormtrooper that appeared in Part III and it was at the killed by Tala Durith), The Bad Batch, etc.

I actually have a wiki book from like the early 2,000's Star Wars, and read a comic about this. In Legends (aka Old Lore), the Empire was incredibly sexist and Xenophobic, with only one female Admiral who was basically sent away to a research station. She ended up becoming a massive problem for the New Republic and Admiral Gideon was a major ally of hers. She was a bit of a cold badass (she got an army by rounding up Imperial warlords, and those that didn't try to rebuild the Empire got gassed). Soldier wise, female Stormtroopers did exist, but faced pretty heavy discrimination. Naval officers and TIE pilots were pretty ok with woman serving. So, if you were a woman, you could be a Stormtrooper, Pilot, or low level Naval Officer. But you would likely never be a commander, Captain, or even Admiral unless Vader or Thrawn thought you were special.

Boob armor actually does serve a purpose, it's easier for a woman to wear. This is no joke, stormtrooper armor in real life would probably be somewhat uncomfortable for women. Women who wear army issue armor in the U.S military encounter this issue occasionally. It depends on how well endoued they are. So boob armor does have a purpose. However, stormtrooper armor may have been designed in a unisex style like some t shirts are. Meaning it may actually have been just as easy to wear for women as it was for men, or equally uncomfortable. Lol

The "boob armor" that you're talking about wouldn't be shaped like actual boobs, however; it would probably take the form of a slightly elevated chest plate to allow a little more room underneath, not a pair of hemispherical protrusions on the chest plate. Boob armor that looks like boobs is actually FAR less effective, as the "cleavage divot" would focus impact forces into the sternum rather than around the ribcage. TL;DR: Functional boob armor would look more like regular armor than Hollywood boob armor.

@@mr_h831 The chest is a far more important region to protect, that’s why various ancient armies like the romans felt comfortable having not much more than some leather/fabric stripes protecting the region between their legs even when they made sure to protect their chest with metal armor. The chest is just a way bigger, easier to hit and obvious target than the junk that also happens to contain most of your vital organs. You’d probably also be wearing at least some amount of padding under that armor, so boob armor would be like trying to wear a bra over a sweater.

On your last point it's definitely on the universally uncomfortable side. When the US Army revised the ACU uniform with the OCP pattern they changed the cut and introduced a male and female specific uniform. The current uniform fits much better and we don't look like we are wearing garbage bags anymore like the original unisex ACUs. The Army, if not DOD as a whole, are also looking at fielding female specific plates in the near future. It may have taken a couple of decades but finally they are starting to realize that you put less wear and tear on your soldiers if their gear fits right.

One of the most compelling Legends depictions of Stormtrooper recruitment and training was Garth Ennis' "Trooper" in issue 10 of Star Wars Tales. Convicts and volunteers are forced to kill each other so the survivors can enter training. Training and service are relentless killing and being killed. The troopers are drained of all humanity and while the few faces we see are male they're mostly the same identical impassive helmet. Obi-Wan, Rise Of Skywalker, and LEGO made a conscious choice to give Stormtroopers diverse faces and genders, which is probably the right choice, but it humanizes the troops that are committing atrocities and getting casually killed off.

The Empire doesn't lower their standards for female recruits (unlike real militaries do, unfortunately), so I would imagine that they're pretty meritocratic at least for the lower enlisted ranks. NCOs and commissioned officers may be another story, because you need to be just as good at playing politics as you are at your actual job to make it far in those circles.
@AJadedLizard
@AJadedLizard 2 жыл бұрын
That depended in large part on your CO. If you were assigned an actually competent officer who had their position themselves based on merit (i.e., Thrawn, Pellaeon, Veers, the Fels, and the like) then you were more likely to go far based on your own competence.
@MistahFox
@MistahFox 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the political situation for if standards are lowered. If you're the U.S. military, you have the most advanced technology in the world with the best tactics and a shitload of practical experience as they are almost permanently at war somewhere in the world, and your enemies are insurgents and possibly Russia, who is laughably incompetent and China who's own military is concerned how weak and spoiled its soldiers are. The U.S. military has a huge problem with recruitment however as low faith in foreign wars means no one is interested in enlisting, so combine the fact that individual unit strength has little effect on the overall effectiveness of the military with the fact they need as much troops as they can get and you get a lowering of standards to let more women in. The Empire however has an unlimited quantity of recruits and a Sith ideology that believes in strength over all else (sometimes to their own detriment as stronger and more connected people get positions that require smarter people), and you don't get a lowering of standards but still have millions of female troopers even if they are only 0.1% of the Stormtrooper corps.

Boob armor does serve a functional purpose in blunt force attacks. Curved armor is always stronger than flat armor for a given thickness, and the more curved, the more stronger. In a genuinely equal universe, boob armor would certainly make more sense than the silly codpieces you see on some European plate armor, and equally as much sense as the muscle cuirass. Those silly codpieces served their function equally as well as the more generic versions, or presumably they wouldn't have been made, seeing as how making something like that would've been considerably more expensive. I think Shadiversity and his peers have each made at least one video to this effect, although I can't recall their exact decision on how useful it was. Heat dissipation is a wholly different story, though. Convex curved surfaces have an almost lensing effect of the heat inwards (given that the heat is external), and inside corners and concave curves cool _much_ slower than flat surfaces. The best way to cool something quickly is ridges and fins, which are notably lacking in stormtrooper armor design, and would've made them look way cooler anyways. They should add that to modern stormtrooper armor. They could easily call it a "technology upgrade", no one would bat an eye. Either way, boob-like armor certainly isn't out of the question in any world, even though full on boob armor might be a bit silly. Think sports bra vs Victoria's Secret bra. Sports bra type armoring makes sense in any world, but I have a feeling that trying to go for Victoria's Secret style armoring would just end up in a parade more often than actually used. Which makes sense, if you think about it that way.
