As a former random main in Melee, i feel attacked! But youre totally right. Makng the decision to stick with one character (peach) has overall netted me better game understanding and more consistency. I dont regret it though, because i end up learning matchups more fluidly since i played with everyone already. Thanks for the great insight and reassurance that single maining is the way to go

Playing other characters can help you understand what to look for in a specific matchup but im glad your peach is leading to more consistency

God DAMN this man is speaking true FAX To answer your question, I'm a fellow Yink main that struggles in my bad MUs like Palu, Steve and some others because I haven't learned them well enough.

I'll put this into 2 parts- My story is that I'm a solo ganon (evil king) main and he's been my most favorite heavy and favorite character in ultimate. Solo maining him has majorly improved my playstyle and skill level on him since I dropped all of my previous characters that I played/mained in the past. I do feel like players should go for solo maining their character that works best for them. Like they researched, analyzed, tested and practiced enough for their character to have enough fluidity to handle higher tier characters. Once again, this mostly applies to their skill level and how much time and effort they put into that character. It's just the general mindset of "why would I bother playing 80+ characters when I can just main 1 character and get better and better with them"

Exactly. You’ve put in so many hours to be this good already unless you match the same amount of hours with another character its just slowing down progress

@@NeedelsSmash correct. Having a secondary actually ruins your muscle memory with your solo main. I tried playing byleth again and it really messed up my inputs and playstyle, thinking I was playing as ganon

I main Ridley and secondary jigglypuff. I was considering picking up wolf but now I've changed my mind. I solo main Ice climbers in melee and after only six months of playing the game I'm already beating most people online (having a background in ult probably helped too)

This makes sense, but sometimes it's not viable. Like, I'm a Bowser main. I think he's good. But he SUCKS against the top tiers so I use Roy as a secondary. ...Never mind, I just got to the part of the video where you address this 💀

Bowser is tough especially when hes a heavy. What helps heavy players a lot is getting your punish game stronger so even if you are struggling most of the match, 1 or 2 reads can win you the game

As well as the player needs to think back on what mistakes they made from those games and find weaknesses from their opponent to be able to punish

I'll lose with Puff in tournament and instead of blaming the character (I think she's crazy good so I'd be lying to myself if I did) I bust out ol' reliable: "BassMage woulda won that" Boom, always works, I'm not good enough to effectively secondary a top tier anyways

Its a good mindset to have. The games are always winnable you just have to figure out what went wrong. Its key to have faith in your character

Got this recommended to me. I've probably only put about 20 hours into Ultimate, but I'm starting to like playing Captain Falcon. Does anyone have any tips to getting better with movement, landing attacks, etc?

Working on hour movement on platforms is very important. Especially with captain falcon. Practice with falcon comboing off of landing up air, grab, and neutral air. Eventually when they swing at you you can dash back and side b for combos.

I mained Falcon (plus played about a dozen other characters) my first few years playing I would focus on mixing up your approach options- I learned too late (after I began solo-ing Diddy Kong) how important it is to foxtrot, dash dance, and to move between platforms in neutral (especially given how few options falcon has once he does approach)

You should talk about character difficulty, like how Steve and kazuya are harder than cloud/Pam, and how character choice might affect the improvement of someone just starting out w/competitive smash.

@@MichaelPater picking up a pocket kazuya/steve is infinitely harder than picking up a pocket aegis/cloud. There’s a reason the former two are typically solo mained. Playing cloud effectively is as simple as spacing bairs and using oos well (aka HAVING FUNDIES). Playing kazuya effectively is a lifestyle choice.

So I’m a solo ultimate link main, 14, from Scotland. With 2 pr wins under my belt (Benny Boy, Nam). despite not playing vs Fox or Falco in bracket, but I’ve played the mu in at least 200+ games in friendlies, i thought Kirby would be a good pocket for the mu. I start doing better with him in the mu, but should i go back to link for it to not hinder my improvement?

I think if you can get pr wins with your link i dont see why you cant beat fox/falco players. It might be difficult and it might take time but its very possible. Watch high level link vs fox/falco games and get some inspiration!
