We just started our hotshot trucking about a month or two ago but he has been watching you for the last few years. This video really gave me some insight on what to expect. Although I work a full-time job away from our company I love the fact that he’s got something else to do. I’m hoping to sooner rather than later help him on the road as well. As far as cameras everywhere that just becomes a nightmare, Think about it what is your data like your wireless data it goes fast as it is unless you have unlimited can you pay an arm and a leg for it. Personally the worst thing about hot shot trucking is the fact that everybody thinks pick up truck little car trailer they do not realize that you’re pulling a 49 foot trailer or a 53 foot trailer and like to try to send you into residential areas where you just should not be

I'm not unfamiliar with dragging trailers as I just pulled my 30' tag trailer with my "new to me, 51 year old muscle car" across this entire country! I actually stopped at the "Dimond C" trailer manufacturer in Texas to find out which trailer would be best suited for what I might be hauling and next, I need to find out about licensing and insurance to help me make that final decision. That said, I will be looking at your past videos hopefully covering these issues. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and opinions regarding this business and I am most certainly open to any advice and suggestions! Razor!

Depending upon the freight value & replacement ability if necessary, customers do worry about delivery issues. Obviously you have never shipped a device that takes 2 months to build or a vintage auto worth six figures. Your post is simply ignorant. Exploring further: you are inexperienced dealing w/ ins carriers, They do not write a check based upon a claim. They appraise the loss, process & delay, easily a month or more. Example: shipper sells an auto for X🤑💰💸 more than market value. Carrier argues the claim is greater than the replacement value. They want to explore arbitration. Let's find a replacement similar auto? The declared value is a paper #. The actual loss payment is often a revised #. Equipment piece took two months to build, prove it , document labor, materials, profit. As stated, you speak from lack of experience.

@BrandonLeech
@BrandonLeech Жыл бұрын
What they don't tell you about "hotshot" trucking? (A term I dislike BTW because of the slightly negative connotation...) -Living out of a pickup truck sucks and is nowhere near as comfortable as a modern big truck with a stand-up sleeper. Non CDL drivers I guess wouldn't know, but anybody who has gone from big trucks to little trucks knows firsthand what I mean. Especially if you're stuck sitting in the truck stop because of bad weather it's extremely boring and uncomfortable. -Easier to get short notice or emergency service for big trucks. There's a network of generally competent mechanics and truck stops along the interstate highway system that can help you with most of your common big truck problems. They can't or wont help you with your Ford, GM or RAM in most cases. -As you mentioned harder to stay rolling with a good paying load than with a big truck. -Hot shot and RV hauling KZfaqrs make it seem like a barrel of monkeys all the time like it's vacation time with the camper or something...probably not intentionally but to be honest trucking ain't for sissies. You will be tested mentally and physically and probably aggravated by some sort of situation or person every day. Some shipper or consignee will be rude to you and make you wait for hours. Some road-ragey asshole will flip you off or pull some dangerous move in front of you to make a point. Truck will put you on the side of the road and cost a big tow bill. Most of the year it's either too hot or too cold to sleep comfortably without heat or A/C. For your health you have to limit your exposure to life on the road and take some breaks at home because the daily aggravations and discomforts of the trucking life will wear on you. And it can be lonely. You're a long way from home and a lot farther out of your comfort zone than most people would tolerate.

Then make sure the broker is including a fuel surcharge in the rate. The way this works is fuel is an expense. That expense gets passed along to the end user( Customer) I don;t use brokers. I set my rates based on my numbers. Since Feb 1st, the cost of fuel is up about 40%. So, that piece of furniture that I carried for $200 is now $275. It is what it is. If the customer wants their stuff, they will have to pay to get it there. Or they don't have to purchase it...Or they are free to find a cheaply priced transporter who will provide 'cheap' service..

I'm looking at starting a Hotshot business I have most of the paperwork done, I have my CDL my biggest question is if your a one-truck business what happens if you have a major vehicle failure and you can't get the load on time, how do you get someone to come to pick up your load and get the job finished.

I'm 20 slaving away making 80k a year, but I don't have any time with family so its truly not worth it. I have a diesel but its only a single rear wheel and a 2500. Do you think its worth it to give it a shot? I want to see my family at least a week out of the month and I hate working for others. Thank you!

@@DieselsAndGuns Thats actually a good thing! I asked because if it's a Ram 2500, it probably has a 68rfe which is a no go for heavy duty work (its a good trans if you only haul once or twice per year). Allison's can take a beating though. I don't know alot about duramaxs but I know the allison would serve you well for 350k+ miles.

That idea of having a camera in a semi truck specially a car hauler hauling expensive car is a bad idea this is why they don’t do it. If you give the customer tracking to know where you are and they can see video of what you have in your truck and video of the surrounding of your truck they will know exactly where you at and could plan a robbery’s easier. 👎
