Everyone comments on my videos wanting to be an aspiring anime creator or wanting to be the next MAPPA or Ufotable animator, but do they REALLY know what it takes to run an indie anime studio? Do they actually know about the time and work it ACTUALLY takes to put out even one piece of animation?
Stick around, chill out and let's talk about that.

I had a lot of leftover clips that I've been re-using for the past 30 TikToks, so I figured I'd compile a bunch of them together and make a sort of podcast/update vlog type of thing. Indie animation on a low budget ain't all that cracked up to be, y'know? Anyways, if you'd like to help me in the short run, support me on Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/spywimusic

I have a suggestion why are you not stalling your animation course ? it's help to make money btw I am from India that's why my english is not so good, sorry 😅

I am not qualified to teach a whole animation course. Better to just focus on my own thing than try to do something else. Otherwise I’ll never finish my animations.

I believe it’s an M2 iPad Pro but idk, the type of tablet you use doesn’t matter, it’s more so how you use it than how expensive it is. 👍

I know how you feel. As an animator myself, it’s hard to keep things up to date, and not only that, you’re only one person who is doing almost all of the work. And besides it’s hard to acquire any assistance from other people since I’m afraid of asking strangers or people who are known for doing the anime animation production line or good at art. But I try not let that discourage me because with time, something will come. All I can say is, keep doing your best! No matter how long it takes to make your animations, know that you got this, Spywi!

Excellent advice to share. I am an indie animator myself who’s been working on my personal project for years now that is still ongoing which is an animated web series with a few shorts and episodes completed and out to the public. It takes a long time and hard work to complete each one, but it’s rewarding in the end. Definitely keep moving forward and continue to reach for your dreams. 😃👍✨

I'm an indie animator myself running a off-the cuff studio almost with just myself and my fiancée helping me from time to time. I couldn't afford Adobe anymore and animations were impossible to finish without the help of scene rigging and using Cacani (Opentoonz also has stroke order tweening for those that cannot use Cacani; thank you Jojo's Bizarre Adventure for teaching me the ways of Cacani) for tweens since I am doing this by myself. Taking on clients has taught me how to do this faster than I imagined but it still is slow. I am able to produce 30 seconds in about 70 days (although not all are workdays and not all days are full time). It is crazy what deadlines can do to make an artist work efficiently. I don't have a full pipeline that would work with more than me and my partner but yeah it works somehow. I do this plus doing full time work. So, there are only times I had to finish a 15 second animation only on weekends and some seem simple but become insanely difficult. Especially when a client wants very detailed drawings. I know I need to cut back the amount of animation I do in a cut and these days require my clients to have the boards (they are super basic sometimes but man does it help) because that helps me immensely finish on time; boards are a whole other can of worms honestly that can be very difficult if the vision isn't fully realized. Now I am trying to figure out how to do a lot of the comp in Opentoonz and Davinci Resolve since at this time I can't put in money for AE. Thank you for opening the window to your work. I would love to show my process at some point and hopefully that will help you and others succeed as well as your videos help me :) Cheers

Dong Chang is really a blessing for any beginner. His content is so good. It's very hard to get content like that. For your content, you don't have to do editing like Mr Beast for sure! This video is good enough for me, and too much editing can be too much for the viewers too. Some may come to learn (like you said) and so we are not here for flashy multiple cuts. We are here for knowledge.

I've been working on getting a team of animators together as well. However, my funds are low. In the meantime I been animating, coloring, audio mixing, and compositing the scenes all on my own. While also having a full-time job, being a foster parent for two kids, and being a husband. It's tough these days. I've also been thinking about giving up on animation in general. Does it really pay off in the long run.

Animation fundamentals, always start with that. The tools don’t matter, just use whatever medium works best for you. If you plan on doing anime industry work, use the tools the industry uses like pencil and paper. If you plan to do western animation, learn TVPaint or ToonBoom or Opentoonz and use a Wacom tablet. Use what works for you.

What are your thoughts on using AI in animation, I have seen some people using AI for inbetweens and coloring it's not perfect but impressive
@SpywisMindPalaceAnimations
@SpywisMindPalaceAnimations Ай бұрын
The software you’re thinking of has long existed before “Generative AI” was even a thing, so as long as it’s not using one of the generative AI models out there, it’s more ethical to use. THAT BEING SAID, the automatic processes will still create incorrect/inconsistent/generic in-betweens without intention. Properly spacing your cels and lines with intention will always look miles better than just your typical “generate frames exactly in between frame A and B”. Bottom line, as long as it’s not generative AI then there can be a use-case for it, but not all the time. I don’t personally use it but if it saves time for studios then idk that’s their process, not mine.

Most western shows use auto tweening/shape tweening for 2D animation. It has been around since the early 90s with Macromedia Flash and is a staple in Western shows. American/Canadian cartoons wouldn't even exist anymore without shape tweening, algorithm tweening. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure used Cacani for inbetween help and I am aware that Demon Slayer uses it lots as well. Nothing wrong with that. It wasn't even a controversy until the last 2-3 years with Generative AI because people mistake generative AI to math using vector tools that generate tweens by manipulating lines and/or shapes. They are completely different. Not only that, doing rigging or stroke order shape tweening still takes immense time and effort. Even before the controversy, a popular channel for anime creation, Dong Chang, even used Dain AI since he was looking to improve the pipeline. So in short, generative AI =/= vector math manipulation to help speed up animation
