After our son was killed in an accident, many reached out to us with prayers, love, and compassion. We felt so cared for. Sometimes, a simple thinking of you helps so much. Also, we had to fly from IN to CA at the end of Dec. to take care of his body. My BIL, a frequent traveler, helped us navigate getting flights secured. Acts of kindness do matter.

I learned from a pastor that I loved to stop and pray for the person right then and there. If I can’t be with them, I’ll pray over the phone and even by text! I’ll write a note in my phone to be praying for them as well.

Diana, we received a difficult diagnosis for my husband in November. The number of people that have avoided asking has really surprised me. I know that it’s likely because they don’t know what to say or do but simply I just would like to here that they are thinking or praying for us. I learned many years ago to ask “how can I support you?” I also ask “what specifically can I raise up in prayer for you?” That often opens the door to a conversation about what they are struggling with. Thanks for this video. ❤

I have a friend whose sister in her late 40's has been in a nursing home for a decade or more due to Huntington's. She had been on hospice for a year also. My firend texted me and told me she was passing, meaning actively at this time. I prayed for peace her sister and everyone and for lack of pain. Days later my firend called me and told me her sister made a turn so dramatic that they took her off paliative and hospice and she was sitting up talking, laughing and happy. She still has the diseaes but it reversed course dramatically. I was very happy and had to tell my firned that I am sorry I did not pray for a recovery but thankful that someone did and I just was not thinking that it was a possibility. God does do amazing things!

I love how you explain the fear that believers have to pray for healing… “what if it doesn’t happen- what will they think about God” - and then your encouragement to pray anyway. “God is big enough to take care of that”🥰 We do our part and He does His. I have a dear friend who has been battling Parkinson’s disease for years and still prays for healing. We both decided that no matter what, we will camp in the ‘red letters’ (the words of Jesus) and not move. This has been one of my favorite videos 🥰💯

Sometimes I don't know how to pray for someone, especially if I don't know God's will or if they're not a believer. In those moments I literally pray for God's will to be done and for wisdom and then pray in the Spirit. Some difficult situations are just not cut and dry as to how to pray, but our God knows.

Empathy. A true sign of a mature caring Christian. My “Christian” friend I guess got tired of me talking about a specific struggle in my life and blurted out…… well you just need to get over that…….. So, I have pulled inward and have turned more to God with my pain. I’m thinking that’s why this happened. God wants me to give it to him. Although we do need our Christian friends. I’m waiting for God to lead me to the right ones. 🙏

Diana... thank you for guidance on what to say to those who need prayer and words of encouragement in good and bad times. I ran into a woman yesterday who came into the restroom crying. I asked her if she was OK and she shook her head no, but then walked out. I felt badly that I hadn't said anything else, but God put her in my path a second time where I was able to hug her and give her my phone number. I want to be prepared for those moments in my life to speak God's healing words over them, so I'm putting your tips in my toolbox! Your video is a word in due season for me. Blessings!

Diana, thank you for this video. Many times, it is easy to say thank you for joyful news and blessings. But when told about bad news such as sickness or death, or even events that may be challenging such as not getting that job or needing money , it does seem to leave us a bit speechless, and saying I will pray for you seems to be an automatic response. Just getting started watching some of your videos, but really appreciated this one and see possibilities for better being a witness for Christ. I've admired those who openly ask their waiter or gas station attendant or whomever what they can pray for them about, but have never felt I could do this authentically. It felt too abrupt and is so in contrast to my personality. However, I'm pretty good at getting casual conversations going with people, and could see myself engaging with strangers just to find out what's going on in their lives, and then using your tips to name what I'm going to pray specifically for them, and possibly praying with/for them in the moment. Also, one other situation that I FREQUENTLY have a soul struggle with how to respond to is how I should engage with those who are homeless or asking for money. I'm so ridiculously blessed and want to share, but we are also trained in our culture to ignore, not "enable", and mistrust those who are obviously in greater need (whether physical, spiritual, mental) than I am. I know Jesus would respond differently, but I'm having trouble identifying how that would be. (And our culture also has trained us as women to be particularly cautious and anxious about interacting with these individuals...who for the most part are men). If you ever wanted to do a video on this - or a whole series on this topic! - I'm sure there are many out there like me. And I think your perspective that is no doubt also informed by your involvement in decluttering and minimalism (or at least Dawn's!) and detaching from ALL.THE.STUFF, would be particularly interesting. When I look at all the excess "inventory" that I have, it just makes me even more sensitive to how much others don't have. And it demands more from me than just donating it to charity/thrift stores.

I just found your channel! I’ve been watching Dawn for a few years and love her! I just subscribed to your channel and love your message so much. My husband passed away a year ago and as a believer, though it was hard, I couldn’t have done it without the strength of the Lord. He made sure that I was cared for through family and friends as well as my husband’s place of work. They were all so thoughtful and I found myself praying for the success of the company that my husband worked for. I’m learning what it is like to be a single parent, homeschooling my child. I have had to hire help to shovel in the winter and sometimes to mow the lawn this past summer. It gets so expensive, but I can’t always do it. I think our roof is in need of repair as it tends to get ice dams. So it has been leaking and I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg fixing it. Pray for me to make the right decision about the roof and that God guides me to the right people and solution. I don’t want to be taken advantage of. I may only need heat tape. Thank you so much.

My name is Lynn Taylor. Thank you so much for this video! It is so needed. I have been on both sides of this topic. Just a few days ago, my husband and I attended a celebration of life service for a family friend. It was difficult to know what to say. I decided being there said a lot. Hopefully, if I said anything "wrong" they won't remember or at least will realize I was trying to give support. When I saw my friend's daughter whole also knows me, the first thing I did was hug her. I told her it was good to see her. She lives in Scotland now. Then, I said " I am so sorry you lost your mom!" Then, I said something like "I know you didn't really lose her. You know where she is. " Can't remember what else I said.

What a great encouragement- you are such a blessing ❤️A while back someone encouraged me to just pray right then and there- I don’t do it every single time but many times now, I put my arm around the person and pray or take their hands and pray- I love your encouragement to tell them we will pray specifically. Your light for Christ shines bright Diana! Blessings on you. ❤

Thank you so much for the Simple Prayers printable! I have a little greeting card apostolate and try to include appropriate prayers and scripture. You’ve given me a terrific new selection. Do you have any suggestions for comforting words in times of loss?

Hi Diana...great subject. If at all possible I ask the person if they'd mind if we prayed now, at that moment. I keep the prayer very short and to the point. My thought is that as we pray God is there in the midst of us and often the other person is touched by His presence at that moment and if they aren't a Christian that moment introduces them to the Lord in a very non threatening way. I have experienced the value in this over and over. It was scary at first, now I look forward to being amazed at what God does.

This is so great, Diana, thank you for this video! I went through 4 years of infertility and failed treatments before getting pregnant, and it's crazy some of the dumb and hurtful things people say. There are good things to say, and if you don't know what to say it's better to stop talking!
