More on managing acne scars / 101.skin
You will gain more traction in your scar revision if your acne is controlled. This allows your immune system to concentrate on collagen remodelling, instead of diverting the immune response to fight zits, pimples & acne. The more focused your immune system, the better the outcome. Remember the biggest prognostic factor for the chances of scarring is the time taken to effectively manage-treat ALL of your acne lesions
How to gain control of acne?
.
DIY at home: Acne diet, low in sugar & dairy. Topicals include retinol, Differin, BHA washes & niacinamide.
.
Dermatological treatments include: retinoids, both topical & oral, anti-inflammatory ABs, PDT, Low level light therapy & lasers. Chemical peels include retinoic acid, salicylic acid & Jessner Peels

Hi Dr. David Lim, I'm really glad to stumble to your videos. I'm now subscribed. I love your videos for these reasons. 1. You are honest and really help us to get products that works at a budget. We consumers get sucked into brands because we don't know much and assume brands are reliable and the fancy advert. Having your skill to advise us what is appropriate (best for our money) i really appreciate you for that. As not alot of people can afford the pricey products but do want to care for their skin. (Sometimes you see others not good with money goes in credit card debt). 2. I love that you are an Australian. We live so far and we seem to have limited access to new products that other parts of the world can easily and sometimes get cheaper. I was able to watch your video to know about superfade to help with my pigments. Thanks Dr. David Lim. Please keep up and give us more knowledge. Take care and keep safe.

It's not a secret. But it actually isn't as significant as he makes it out to be. Severe acne will not be affected. The correlation between diet and ance is real but mild. It seems to be something older derms latch on to.

As crazy as this sounds, my nephew was breaking out horribly because his dad had bought him an acne medication for one pimple he had. I told him to toss the acne medication and got him a toner and he’s never had a break out since. That was 5 years ago. Imagine how many teens with very minor acne exacerbate it by using the wrong products or over-treating it with acne medication they don’t even need. Don’t get me wrong there are some teens that are predisposed to horrible acne of the cystic type or hormonal but I’m thinking over treatment and diet probably do play are larger role for a good majority of the acne cases. There’s no money in telling ppl to eat better and not writing scripts…lol

My son used niacinamide, differin and salicylic acid wash and benzoyl peroxide for spot treatment. The best thing that works is when he added Az Clear i.e. Azelaic acid 20% to his skincare. That is the product that works magically for him -- within just 2 days his skin inflammation has gone down; his whole face is no longer red & looked better each day. He is using differin at night, and Azelaic acid in the day time with niacinamide and mosturiser both day (sunscreen too) & night time. Small amount of differin / azelaic acid goes a long way because it can be drying when too much is used. For easier application differin/azeliac acid was applied on top of moisturiser. Also use a humidifier if your skin is too dry sleeping in the air conditioning room helps. I'm using azeliac acid too as it helps breakup my sunspots and lighten them.

Try cutting out eggs. Eggs feed staph bacteria and trigger inflammation. If you flush (get rosy) when you drink, try cutting alcohol too. I'm East Asian and those two changes have led to a complete clearing of my cystic acne. I thought it was dairy for years but I can eat pizza without problems. What are you supposed to do if your acne is largely caused by hormonal birth control? I’ve been largely able to manage some acne solely on diet and skin care alone. But the hormones in my birth control method give me acne, and as a result, they are usually the ones who leave me with the most scarring. I’ve tried multiple bc methods and the one I’m on (IUD) has been the one that works best on me. I’m wanting to have treatment done for my scarring but I don’t feel inclined to have my IUD removed just to manage acne.

And treatments are quite expensive with not very dramatic results as I can see in your videos. What do you recommend me. He’s 10 and he’s biracial(he has a pretty dark tan/olive color. He was messing with a family friends dog and the dog nipped him on the hemangioma not enough to get stitches but it will definitely leave a scar. I took him to the dermatologist and we have been using silicone bandages. She said because of his skin color that his scar will most likely come up white and we may be able to get laser a year from now(now the hemangioma is more raised she said because it has fatty tissue behind it now.) She said also because of his skin tone the laser will only help with the redness and not with the scar. Do you do consultations through Skype. I just feel bad because it’s right between his eyebrows and will most likely permanently scar him from what the dermatologist said.

It's raised due to scar tissue beneath the skin, not fatty tissue. Need to break up the scar tissue underneath, that will flatten the scar and consequently reduce the redness. Microneedling (1.0-2.0mm, dependent on the scar height) and deep massaging to further break up the scar tissue are the best solutions for this. Microneedling (manual/dermapen) must be performed at multiple angles, in order to break up the tissue from the sides and underneath. Some doctors may recommend steroid injections for scar tissue. But microneedling (8 weeks between sessions) is safe and very effective at flattening scars and improving the skin to eventually look almost scar-free. You may use a 0.1mm dermastamp with hyaluronic acid (2x a week) at home to further enhance results. And in case you're wondering, these recommendations have been reduced to suit a young child; as the frequency and depths would be higher for an adult.

@@mmqx thank you so much, I felt kind of hopeless after the pediatric dermatologist appointment. It’s still a scab so I’m guessing I have to wait until that heals. I don’t think this derm would do steroid injections, do you think I should just make an appointment with the pediatric plastic surgeon or find another pediatric dermatologist. She very much made it seem like because of his skin tone he wouldn’t be able to get help.

@@mmqx I will start the micro needling right away after the scan heals. We only have on pediatric dermatologist in my city and no other dermatologist would see him because of his age so I really appreciate the reply. ❤️

Hi Ele, how often do you do Salicylic acid peels? I’m just starting with an aesthetician on that, but curious to know the time intervals between session. Thanks!

If you want to tackle your active acne just switch your diet , I promise you literally all you need to do, won't heal your scars but the active acne will be gone

Yup. I joke to myself that every pimple I ever had is still on my face. I inherited my dad's skin. Tazorac 1% is the only thing that smoothed them out.

Did you use tazorac when you still had active acne?
@ajae...
@ajae... 3 жыл бұрын
@@parisam7659 Yes. It's a retinoid prescribed for acne like retin a and adapalene. It's more expensive. Try GoodRx and other sites. I once got it from a foreign pharmacy (Canada). And my primary care physician helped me by prescribing it for psoriasis, which made it covered by my insurance that wouldn't cover it for acne. I got compliments on my skin by people who never knew I had acne. The effect only lasted as long as I used it. I'm on .3% adapalene at Dr. Lim's suggestion and because it's cheaper. It's only been a few months, and all I'm seeing so far is way more breakouts.
