The comments section is a safe place to express your emotions. Anyone that is brave enough to share their struggles, please do so, and you will be supported and cheered on by myself and this lovely student community ❤️ To start us off, I failed my Health Systems midterm last semester... This was my first failed grade in pharmacy school. I felt so alone, but after talking to my friends, I found out that many of them failed too. I needed to pass this class, so I re-evaluated my strategy and put more effort into a class that I didn't necessarily enjoy. I got a 90 on my essay, aced my final exam, and finished the class with an A. I couldn't have been more proud of myself. This is my story of rising up and overcoming adversity. What's yours?

I’ve learned this method from reading a book but you basically say “this is good because..” and try to find a lesson when you fail at something. So if you failed your Biochem exam you could say “this is good because now I know exactly what I need to work on before the final” it’s something small but if you’re consistent it can improve your mood greatly. Thanks for the tips Nathan 💜

It is this year that I found how important a role mental health plays on academic performance!!! Learning with anxiety lowers my productivity and interest for studying. I was just soooo afraid of failure before. Now I always ask myself "so what?", failed a test so what? I tried my best anyway! Surprisingly I am learning much more efficiently with a relaxing mood!!!

The worst thing is when you know exactly that you know all the answers, you understand the material and would have done well if you didn't have to do it in an anxiety-inducing exam situation. As soon as I am outside od the situation and am more relaxed I can pick out precisely what I did wrong in the situation. Then I am left thinking about these stupid mistakes that could have actually been avoided easily... Anyway, I did my final (uni) exams and the same thing happened again of course :'D I am sitting on hot coals right now and I keep ruminating on these mistakes even though I know I cannot change it now. It's in the past and I have to focus on the present and the future...

I did all the good study habits, had a time table, managed my school and social life well but still failed it math. Sure there were weeks where my grades were not the best but there were weeks where they were great too. I was so shocked and disheartened when I found out I needed to attend remedial classes. It made me feel like after the efforts I put in to have my life together wasn’t enough. That I wasn’t enough. I don’t feel enough.

Sharing my story bcz I want to let it out. You guys don't have to read. So I always struggled from anxiety but during 1st year of my dental clg (this year), it's just got bad but I was coping well. But during my final exams (just recently, 2 months ago ), something traumatic triggered my anxiety. It was worse including panic attacks 24/7 & nightmares, insomnia as well. Didn't study properly, cried alot. During my anatomy exam, got the worst panic attack of my life, nobody noticed, no one care tho. So I just kept pushing myself. I never asked for help too, passed out during my last exam due to mental breakdown. Only were able to pass one exam out of 4 and I felt horrible so so horrible. Supplementary exams were scheduled just after 20 days but I was so broken to care. It was like the biggest failure of my life, always were a good student. My parents were disappointed too. It was hard. I literally hide in a room cried for a week, ghosted everyone. Started having suc!dal thoughts. It was too much, then my parents take me for professional help, anxiety medications were even more worst (they are now working for me) , didn't sleep for a week, get depression, I was in pain. Yeah but everything gets better so it did. I just wanted to end my suffering so I decided that I will try, basically it's my last chance to prevent dropout(still scary). My advice is that first step is to acknowledge your failure. It's not the end of the world. I stopped hiding, faced my failure, go through my mistakes, start preparing again. Now I'm done with one exam(it went soo well) and 2 more left. Not really anxious too. Doing better. Feel stronger than ever. And just wanna say Mental health is soo real, it really affects your life, your grades, your relationships. Please be kind to others and ask for help sooner. Don't suffer alone. Sending love

Tbh, I think the best advice I can give on this topic (as a student in hs who got straight As to a college student who does NOT lol) is these grades don’t really define you and your success. Yes it’s important to pass your class but In almost all stem fields, your work experience does not reflect your grades. Yes knowing the concept is important, but if you did not master your organic chemistry reactions it will be OK. Millions of students have been in your spot and were able to make it. As long as you can say you studied to your full capability then you have nothing to feel guilty for!!!
@NathanWu

Absolutely! And as a real example of this, I don’t get perfect on all my exams but does that mean I’m failing my patients? Of course not! Communication and empathy is just as important as knowledge in the healthcare field

I was always an straight-A student until high school math rolled around. I still had A's in other classes so it wasn't too big of a deal. I was still proud of myself when I got B's as my final grade in math and just sorta felt neutral when I had C's. I recently got back my final grades for this semester and guess who got a D as their final grade in Trigonometry? It was hard to accept but this video made me feel a lot better and more determined to bounce back.

Breathe in, breathe out and remember that you need to put boundaries up for yourself as well. I remember getting a 6/10 when I started school. Usually 4/10 and sometimes 7/10 if I worked hard. I asked around, what others had recieved. Nobody had anything higher than a 7. I asked if the teacher had even graded a 10. Never. Once an 8, years ago. From that moment on, I just tried to forget about the grades and focus on what I was learning from it.

So many things went wrong, mental health got the best of me and was unable to attend most my classes but still turned up for pracs eventho half the time I have no idea what I’m doing. Everyone else beside me was doing well, was caught up with things and has a part time job. Now instead of me trying to make them my inspiration, what I did is blame myself and down myself as to why I can’t be like them. I wanted to end it all before this year started as I feared to face my mistakes and weaknesses but a turning point happened and now here I am continuing on this challenge with a new and more positive attitude. I didn’t know who to talk to or what to do next after that. But then here you are! You really make me feel better and relieved Nathan. Hope you keep doing more of the great works like this 🎉

I was a very good student in school and stood on top......I got admission into one of the country's top uni, but things went downhill......I am already into the 4th sem and I am not doing good for the last 3 sets.......I decided this time I won't be demotivated instead I will be more motivated to work harder and bounce back to be the best version of myself I use to be. Here in this comment section, I am promising myself that this semester and ones to come before I graduate, I need to improve and would graduate with the best grade possible...... Good luck to everyone here who is also striving and hope you give your best shot...........

I always enjoy watching your videos, even though we are in different fields, you and other KZfaqrs have helped me sooooo much, especially with every day thinking and study strategies! So thankyou so very much from the bottom of my heart!

Hey guys! I’m just in middle school but I felt the need to watch this video because that’s just the person I am and I long for academic validation. Anywho I am failing band. A class I honestly forgot I was in and now I am paying the price from my average dropping from a 99.875 to a 91 (38 in band). I just wanted to say that even though it SUCKS to get a band grade in school. You can bounce back from it, get a better grade then everyone else, (or drop the class like me:)) and prove to yourself and everyone else that you are way better than that measly 38! Okay thx for ya time love you all byeee🖤🤎💛❤️

This is a perfect timing video for me. I am in my 3rd semester of nursing school and grade is highly emphasize among my peers and especially in the program. I always believe grade shouldnt be dictated on our performance especially during clinicals. I can see what test is important in testing our knowledge and it is such a horrible feeling to not achieve the grade you work hard for. I can truly say that your video has such truth and enlightenment that everyone should hear because I once fail my exams so bad thinking I couldnt catch up, but through embrace the down moments and finding a plan to overcome those moutains really made me believe it is possible. Once in awhile, imposter syndrome does come in mind, but I have to eliminate the negative thoughts and find my reasons why I started this journey. I truly like what you mention in the beginning about acknowledging the efforts and sacrafices in getting to where we are because its very easy to not give ourselves credit. Self-love and affirmation is truly vital in our nature of life. Thank you so much Nathan for the video and thanks for taking us on your journey!

This came on my recommendations at a time when I needed it the most. My grades just came out and I got a low grade for my practicum course. It’s basically a class where I render internship hours for a law firm (my major is law-related) and despite being basically an unpaid employee and putting 100% of my effort towards my work, my supervisor still gave me a low grade. I’m a scholar so grades are really important to me, that’s why this was such a huge blow to my ENTIRE being. I’ve been in a spiral for the last week, thinking of silver linings to what just happened. Thank you for this video and for this community for allowing me to process this icky feeling of being handed such a low grade for a course that you know you really worked hard for. Hope we all receive the grade that we truly deserve, especially in subjects where we worked the hardest on. 💖

Thank you Nathan! I really needed this 💜 My pre boards are coming up, amd everyone around me is saying that there's gonna be a lot of negative marking, because they want you to do your best in your boards, even though the markings in boards is somewhat lighter. I have been doing my best, completed my syllabus early, and doing continuous revision as well as solving pyq's. I have this mindset of being a topper and always scoring good, so it kinda stresses me out to hear that my pre board marks will be low. But I am giving my 100%, so I don't need to worry, because I did my best. And i promise that i will do my best in my boards too! I will share the results with you on here! 💜

sometimes you gotta take a low score or any failure as a step towards improvement on yourself. It can be a wake up call to if your study habits need change and luckily there are so many different habits to try and incorporate into your routine! I learned to not let set backs hold me down for so long. It’s painful at first because you’re inevitably disappointed. The first step is intimidating because you don’t know if you’re heading in the right direction. But I learned to stay determined and use my resources. It is so important to keep up the rhythm as well. It’s comforting to have peers and professors help out. You’re never alone!

Thank you! This really helped me… a lot. My parents were really shocked at my grades this quarter and it has been worse before too…. I’m usually an overachiever in school and had all A’s until the pandemic hit. My motivation to do my assignments was really low and a bad grade just made it worse. A lot of people just said I’m lazy, they were right, but it hurt me. Sometimes just sitting down in my room just thinking about doing better today instead of starting tomorrow. ❤

Recently I got the worst grade. My teacher noticed that I was really down since I usually get pretty good grades. Recently my grades haven’t been the best. She took me out of the classroom and started to talk to me really calmly and with a lot of care telling me to try better for the next time. I’m really thankful for teachers like her that understand their students.

Good luck bro, I really wish you get a better mark next time, maybe I would like to say that maybe trying to solve A looooot is the key of memorization, thats what what everyone tells me and so far it has been working, another is maybe using SENECA, it's really optional but its kinda helpful for a quick way to learn, but don't take in absolute regard. Another could be to start with what you are most afraid of, let's say its the reactions, and so let it take most of your time to destroy this monster, I really hope I sent a helpful message my friend
