EGG COFFEE, KEBAB BANH MI AND BUN CHA - YES! Was there just this February and I miss it already. I spent about 48 hours in the city but this video is still a revelation, in so many ways. Hanoi was my first ever trip outside the PH (alone too!) and I think it was a good call, since Hanoi did feel a little closer to home but also very different from Manila. Food was the highlight of my trip - so cheap, yet SO GOOD and there was also being mistaken several times for a local. Great video as always!

What i like about Vietnam is the place gives you a choice. The main streets of tourist hubs are not on local rate, you can survive in a cheap budget. Certainly having the unique, genuine experience. Contrary to other neighborhood countries, when its a tourist area, you have no choice but spend and the tourist district is not a first hand experience of the culture unless maybe when you spend some time more

Hi Erwan, bringing you greetings from Canada. I had watched your Ho Chi Minh Vlog and this one on Hanoi. I enjoyed watching them because you have such a clear voice, right volume and very detailed and most of all very informative. I like it that you had included the different snails which I have been longing for. Seeing some of them reminded me of my childhood and of my father who can cooked a mean escargot Chinese style with soy sauce and vinegar.

I've been to Saigon and I can't wait to go back. Now that I've seen this video I'm really looking forward to experiencing Hanoi, I'm really falling in love with Vietnam 💗

I totally agree on Hanoi and Saigon being very different from each other. the same elements are there, but man - what a world of difference 1160 kilometers make. And you described it perfectly. Just getting the feel for Viet Nam, cities like Da Lat and Hanoi don't seem so touristy as some of the well-traveled and publicized spots and still hold on to the culture of Viet Nam. Great vid. Awesome footage, and I love the quick cuts. Your narration is really nice too. It brings back lots of memories for me. I spent 2 months in Vietnam back in 2009 (before I started making travel videos) and thoroughly loved it, although I didn't get to spend much time in Hanoi. I might have to go back again soon, this time armed with a camera.

Really great video. Bread rolls in the North are made from wheat, nice and chewy. Cha Ca is fried fish with mountains of fennel and only in Hanoi. My favourite is still Bun Cha, glorious describes it well.

Really nice job Erwan, great video. I'm not an expert but I think Vietnam can compete not just regionally, but internationally. They are motivated, intelligent, forward thinking, and bilingual or polylingual. Sounds like a formula for international sucess to me. Peace out.

I never noticed how small Hanoi was until now. Go 10 km in any direction you'll see the countryside. When i was a kid, It seemed like such a big place. I lived in Hang Bac and I walked to school in Dong Xuan Market everyday, it felt like a journey, now I realize it's only a 5-6 minute walk lol. I guess living aboard has that effect on me. Such memories.

The fried donut is chinese influenced. It is called youtiao and a typical breakfast will be fried bread sticks dipped in fresh soy milk. In vietnamese it's called Banh Quay. I love having it with congee. Our Banh Mi baguette however is french influenced.

When you mentioned the deep fried donuts in this video, the origin behind them is really from China, which is called, Youtiao. It is normally accompanied with congee (rice porridge) for breakfast in Chinese culture. This deep fried donut has spread throughout Asia and you can find it in almost any Asian country now. In the Philippines it is called, Bicho. Or in the Visayan region, they call it "sia-koy," usually twined like a rope. Reference to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youtiao

This is a very nice Hanoi travel guide. I tried both the Bun Cha 34 and the Banh Mi 25 you recommended, and it was two delicious and tasty experiences. I told one of the owners (this little man who actually spoke very good english) at Banh Mi 25 that I saw this place on a KZfaq travel guide watched by over 200k people, but he had never heard of it. He asked me about the name of the video which I wrote down for him on a piece of paper. Thanks to that he gave me a free water. I asked him how many pieces of banh mi he sells every day (from 7am to 7pm), and his answer was freaking 500! That's unbelievable. We're talking about an income of €500-600 a day just for the banh mi, which should be really good for a street food restaurant in Hanoi. One funny thing is that I wasn't alone going directly from Bun Cha 34 to Banh Mi 25, so I guess I'm not the only one who's taken advantage of your travel guide. Thanks for the tips!
