An intro discussion of how to find old boomboxes and how to start cleaning them up. This is Part 1 thanks to the Sony A6000 Camera (a great camera for taking photos but it overheats and randomly shuts off after filming about 20 min of vid) So part two coming soon.

I've just bought my first Boombox from eBay it's a Toshiba RT-120s I'm really excited to receive it. I'm 39 and I remember my Dad having loads of tapes and recording his fave songs from the radio. Happy times. Thanks for doing this video :)

Now that yard sale and flea market season is upon us, I've been keeping my eye out for old boom boxes. One just because I want one and a second because I plan to re-wire it to be my computer's speakers. This video (and the comment below from code beat) are wonderful. I remember cleaning tape heads with alcohol and a q-tip back in the day, but that's literally all I had going for me. I didn't even consider looking at the motors. Thank you!

Tips: Use WD40 to get tape and other sticky residue off. Let it sit for a while and you can easily rubb it off without any damage. It works great. Very dirty unit: After removing most of the dirt, take it apart and remove all knobs and clean all the plastic parts in warm (not hot) bath with soapy water. Let it sit for a while. I use shampoo (very gentle and smells nice) and a soft cloth. Rinse it off with warm tapwater and rinse it dry with a soft cloth. After this you can clean it with alcohol (70% or less, NOT 90% or more). To remove scratches on transparent plastic you can use silver polish. You will get amazing results, like brand new!

Hey, Whynotmake! I had a General Electric AM/FM TAPE Stereo Boombox, Just like that, when I was younger! It had decent sound, I don't have it anymore, I took it completely apart, to see how the parts worked, and I have different Boomboxes now. They work, and are still a little finicky, But, I'd figure it out, relatively well, and I LOVE Boomboxes! They have good sound, and I like to play my Music, REALLY LOUD!
