Growing Succulents with LizK

Күн бұрын

You can grow plants from leaves taken from a flower stalk. Different species and variety of succulents flower differently. Echeveria, Sedum, Graptoveria and Graptopetalum have their own kind of flower stalk. This video will show which one will grow and which one won't.

Can you do a vid of all your agavoides? It will help me tremendously because I have some agavoides that are A bit difficult to find because there all "rare" agavoides, hoping you also have one of it so I can finally hava the name after 4 months of searching, lmao
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 2 жыл бұрын
Agavoides can be a tricky plant to identify because they're quite variable and they change so much depending on different factors. It will give you more headache than resolve. My Romeos alone have 10 different looks and have been a cause of a few arguments with my succulent friends as to why their Romeos look nothing like some of my Romeos. Some have spot and some have none. Some are pointy and some are round. I try and stick to the label or no label that come with it. I give them my own names to keep track of what I have. To help you with your quest, below is a good website to start you off or maybe give you headache...Good luck and hope you have fun. Cheers www.xplant.co.kr/shop/search.php?search_type=item&search_str=agavoides

Pest, bugs and insects are part of gardening. They can be a nuisance, but they are a warning system to indicate that something is not right in the garden. Ants tells me the presence of mealybug. Mealybug tells me that the soil is too dry. Aphids tells me, it's time to harvest some leaves for propagation. 😊

1. You can plant mature seeds a month after harvesting as long as they are "completely dry". 2. The seed pod has to be dry before collecting; just before they open up to scatter the seeds naturally. Unfertilized pods will have no seeds and not all seeds will germinate.

Thank you Liz, you are so informative. I was wondering what I was going to do with the flower stalks that grew so tall it keeled the mother plant over. Don't know the name of the succulent though. The flower stalk shot up overnight and is so tall I tied it to a stick to support it. The plant looks ridiculous! So now I am going to cut it off and give the mum a chance. Another succulent flower stalk leaves I propagated is the Echeveria Prolifica. The leaves are so tiny yet every single one of them rooted, pupped and grew. But they grew into flower stalks! So now I get it. If you propagate flower stalk leaves they grow into flower stalks! No mother big plant. Weird.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Жыл бұрын
Flower stalk doesn't grow into flower stalk. They grow into a plant/plants. I have grown many mother plants from the flower stalk leaves. E. Prolifica is a type of Echeveria that grows stolons. Stolons can be a flower bloom to get seeds or a plant for propagation and make more Prolifica. Other succulent that doesn't have stolon have inflorescence AKA flowerstalk.

hi Liz, just a quick question about your spray. i notice on your video on how to make it, you say one quarter cup water to one cup of metho. is this correct? because if it is 75%, wouldn't it be three quarters cup metho, not a full cup. or did i not understand properly.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK

@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 2 жыл бұрын
Could be a few things. The season- they can take a long time when taken in summer. Old leaves- if taken from too low, they won't grow because they're old leaves. Young leaves are better. If it's a sterile plant(tissue culture) sometimes don't germinate. It's a matter of waiting. I have some of my Black Prince taking 8 months to grow even a pimple. Good luck.

It's now spring in Australia when temperature starts to warm up. Perfect for flowers to emerge. They will bloom and dry off during the summer time when temperatures are high. Depending on the plant and also maturity of the plant dictates when they will flower.

Liz, I finally have a plant with huge flower stalks And I’m trying to get pups from the stalks. I’ve already cut the flowers off the tops of the flower stems but do you suggest I leave the stalks on the plant with all the leaves in tact or should I remove the leaves or do you suggest I cut the stalks Off and plant them? I had three stalks and what I did was I left too attached to the plant and removed a couple of the leaves and I cut one off and planted it and again removed just a couple of the leaves. It has not yet rooted ,it’s only been two weeks but I would like to know what is your opinion the best way to propagate the stalk itself? I would remove all of the leaves and propagate all of the leaves, I just don’t have room this winter to do it that way. 😱
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 2 жыл бұрын
Depend on what sort of plant it is. Myrtilla, Blue Metal and Imbricata as an example grows really well from stalk. I would remove the stalk when the bottom leaf starts to yellow. Then I cut in 3 inch section leaving a leaf or two. Dry for a couple of days and stick in the soil. If grown indoors, they will germinate from a month to 2 months. The leaves removed (even if there's 2 hundred leaves)can be left in an ice cream container to be revisited in a couple of months time(since your approaching winter) or even wait till spring to check on the new pups to be planted in pots or straight into the garden if you wish.

@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thank you❤️ I believe it’s blue prince but it’s massive And it’s unlike all the blueprints that I’ve propagated from leaves.
