It depends where you live. I had to push to get in before 11 weeks (I'm currently 6 weeks with my first). Some places they do the initial as early as possible, other places they wait until 10+ weeks

I'm 12 weeks (we think) and I'm going for an ultrasound at a place that partners with the pregnancy crisis center here. I still haven't made an appointment with an actual OB yet cause I'm waiting on my medicare to be finalized. I'm happy to know what to probably expect at either of these visits

Same with me. Waiting for madicaid to finalize. But have an appointment at a women’s clinic for a check up and confirm positive pregnancy test. If I’m correct I’m about 7 weeks. This is all new to me and I feel so alone at times. I hope everything is okay with baby. 🙏🏼

I found out I am pregnant 💕pretty early on and having to wait 4 weeks for my first prenatal visit is Brutal!!! I don’t have have many common pregnancy symptoms so it has been very worrisome.

There are lots of good options, but it really depends on what you need yourself and what's available in your area.

I had an ultrasound at about 4 1/2 weeks and they could only see the gestational sac. I have my next ultrasound at 7 weeks. Definitely not the best idea to get an ultrasound that early because it made my anxiety sky rocket.

Most of the time, providers like to do a confirmation ultrasound between 6-10 weeks to make sure your dating is correct! You can totally call your OB now to see what their office prefers. I'm 4 weeks pregnant (I think). I have a positive pregnancy test (or 4) and I have my first appointment scheduled for week 8, which was the soonest I could get in. But a question I have is, am I supposed to have a doctor confirm my pregnancy before this appointment? I called my doctor and they said to confirm they would just do a urine test, not an ultrasound like you had done. Thanks!

I chose mid wife's as my personal care takers . My 1st visit was a sonogram- where he says I was 13 weeks and 1 day and it was less then 10 minutes.. I'm coming back at the end of the month for my 2nd appointment to meet my midwife .. the guy doing the sonogram gets paid on commission and its actually not to expensive, so I actually gave my consent before scheduling the appointment . He just put the sonogram between my belly and the top of my pelvic region but my genital region wasnt looked at . Confirmed the due date of when my baby will be born and given to my midwife

Depending on your OB provider, there is often an ultrasound completed at this first visit which should be able to see if there is 1 or more babies growing in the uterus -- even if this visit happens as early as week 6!

Ik this is an old thread, but my 26 yo daughter is finally pregnant, however, I have some genetic disorders, and I’m not sure if it’s pertinent. First, I’m trisomal x. I’m pretty sure that’s a genetic mutation. Secondly, I tested positive for Von Willebrand Factor 8. Is that important for her to get tested for?

I lost two babies last years and my obgyns were the absolute worse!! They didn’t do none of these things. I didn’t get blood work done until my third visit and they lost it so I had to go two more times. They didn’t asked about my history and when I told them I’m diabetic both told me my babies will most likely die. After my first miscarriage I let them know I bled after the first vaginal ultrasound and they told me they needed to do it and I bled after that one too after both ultrasound was when the bleeding started I lost my first baby at week 6 and my second baby at week 9. I had a horrible experience and now I’m terrified of seeing a doctor ever again.

I am so sorry ! :( I feel like the ob I've been going to isn't very good bc of several issues I've had so I'm looking for another one. I think it's ok to go to a couple if you need to so you can find one those comfortable with. My doc hasn't done any of these tests! 😓 I'm almost 11 weeks! Also she doesn't do ultrasounds in office ?! -.-

Has any husbands on here been denied entry to the first prenatal visit because of the excuse of COVID-19 security? I was able to be there for the ultrasound, but was not allowed for the appointment with the doctor. My main issue is not seeing and being able develop a trusting relationship with the people who will be taking care of my wife and child but no one at her OB’s office seems to care about my concerns. Any tips on how to deal with being made to sit in the waiting room when we desperately need to hear what the doc has to say together?

My husband wasn’t allowed to come in with me into the building but then once I was in the doctors office they called him in and also during the ultrasound and checks. It is because of covid but he had proof he doesn’t have covid so it’s weird.

Is it strange that I see my Family Doctor for the first 20 weeks, then I get to see/meet my OB-GYN? I am 7 weeks and 4 days (based on my calculations), I have my dating ultrasound next week.

Hi Jen. Some Family Doctors do prenatal care and some even do deliveries! Where I did medical school, the family docs caught babies all the time!! Where I did residency, there weren't a lot of family docs in the area. So it just depends on what your doc is comfortable with and what the situation is like in your local area. @@champaben thankfully they ended up arranging another appointment a few days before for blood test, wee sample and blood pressure. I hate it all being on the phone though. The nurse/midwife ended up running late and cancelled twice before I got my appointment. One appointment she cancelled two hours after she was supposed to have phoned.

Some women are sensitive to different types of vitamins--some like gummies best, some like a capsule, some a tablet. So maybe she just had a bunch of free samples and wanted you to find what you liked best!!

Is your first ultrasound typically transvaginal or abdominal?

It depends on how early your first ultrasound is! Generally, before 9 weeks GA you get better pictures using a transvaginal approach. (So my first scan at 6ish weeks was transvaginal.) Sometimes, with very thin patients and a full bladder, you can use a transabdominal probe around the 8-9 week mark and see what you need to. By the time you are going for a nuchal translucency between 11-13 weeks, usually a transabdominal approach is great. Make sure you have a full bladder for any transabdominal scan!! So basically it just depends on how far along your clinic likes you to be when you come for that first OB appointment!

I already had a full exam and pap last year. Noe I am pregnant. Am I going to have it again ? Also is it okay to have my first visit at 11 -12 weeks? I don’t want to have a vaginal ultrasound.

Depending on your history and risk factors-generally, if you are up to date with your Pap smear, you do not need to repeat it again until it is due! Many OBs don’t see new OB patients until 10 weeks or so. You don’t want to wait much past 11-12 weeks because if you want to do first trimester screening for genetic abnormalities, it has to be done between 12-13 weeks!

They can't tell from looking with ultrasound at 7 weeks! The baby's genitals are still developing and can't tell male vs. female till the anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks. The early genetic screening called cell-free fetal DNA (or NIPT/non invasive prenatal testing) can tell you sex of the baby as early as 10-12 weeks via a blood test. There are also a few companies out there that offer gender testing via at home blood test. We actually did this for fun--and used Sneak Peek. They were correct for us, but they definitely get it wrong sometimes!

My obgyn has not done any of those medical care test. No Pap smear or physical exam. No blood or urine tests. No screening. No std tests. He doesn’t get urine tests on my visits that he’s supposed to do. Just nothing I’ve already gone twice Nd I’m on my second trimester now. Can this cause problems for my baby? Nd if it does can I sue or something?

What I'm not understanding is why this needs to be repeated with each pregnancy. This is my second pregnancy with the same Dr and clinic. They have everything from the first pregnancy I went through and all that needed to be asked is if anything new medically occurred since my last pregnancy. Maybe explain any additional testing that may be required now that I am over 35 but my regular ob can do all that. No need for a second appointment.

Well when i found out i was pregnant its true my dcotor wanted to do a pelvic exam, breast exam all of this but i refused all prenatal exams and care i gave birth at home in my hot tub! And i was fine i had a healthy baby girl this was my very first baby i was afraid of hospitals and i still am!

“Your doctor IS going to perform ...” “You will be examined...” ... unfortunately this lingo is all too common and makes it sound like women have no choice. Just want to remind everyone that each woman is in charge of her care and has the right to question/ and or decline any SERVICE that is OFFERED to her. They may have their protocol but that doesn’t mean you have to go along with everything. Make sure you are informed and respectfully asked for your consent, each time an examination is offered to you.

This is a really great point. You should always feel respected, informed, and know that it is your body and the decision on exams and procedures is ALWAYS up to you!!

@@keeks8817 then why didn't you mention this in the video most women are trusting that everything the doctor does is for there own good and they feel pressured to go along with these unnecessary intimate exams it is nothing more than sexual assault if they arew not truly ok with it.America you need a overhaul of you care system and adopt the uk's approach

@@michaelhorobin1268 don’t be ridiculous. We’re so lucky in the west to have the care that we do. Comparing it to sexual assault is inaccurate and bizarre. Doctors are not examining women for sexual gratification. Why are you unnecessarily sexualising women’s bodies?

What’s the point of the breast exam? Even the American Cancer Society doesn’t recommend clinical breast exams for women of average risk.

My ultrasound tech asked me if I had ifv treatments and I said no, then she said it looks like your right every went crazy on you and fertilized more then 1 egg, this was at the ER I had gone in for pain, but when I asked the er doctor he didn't give me a straight answer he just said it's 1 sac ..call your ob doctor and talk to her. So?? Aren't ultrasound techs pretty accurate? Does this mean I'll have multiple babies or was it just an error on the techs part
