@bquitte I Recommend doing a 3 mile run 3 times a week(Mon,Wed,Friday) at an 8 min mile pace. When not able to run use the bike at the gym for 20 min. This got my run form 11:35 to 8:59 in just 3 months. Get a copy of United States Air Force elite workout. Its for CCT and PJ. I used it to prepare for TACP.
@AFKenLandry10 жыл бұрын
The PAST is a basic assessment of the minimum requirements. The AFSOC PT Test is what you should be preparing for, Aim for the following. 2min Pull Ups 20+ 2min Push Ups 100+ 4min Situps 150+ 3mile Run Sub 20:00 1mile swim Sub 30:00 (With Fins) It may take several months to acquire these numbers, but you should start preparing yourself months in advance of basic training. In addition, be able to complete a 50m underwater. If you can complete this test, you'll have no problem with any of the AFSC's described in the video, PJ, CCT, TACP, SERE, SOWT.
@jsk8drummer10 жыл бұрын
The only swimming requirement for TACP is jumping into a pool, getting rid of all your gear and resurfacing... While there is nothing wrong with aiming for the goals you listed, I think that is total overkill for TACP at least which I am more familiar with, maybe not PJ, or SF TACP. But to become a regular TACP/JTAC the graduation standards from TACP tech school are way way way below what you listed. If someone can meet and exceed the graduation standards (by any amount) before going to tech school, then they should do just fine. I would be more concerned about the mental aspect.

@ant guy Basic training was several years ago for me... I had lost 9lbs in basic, some fat, some muscle. From my understanding they have implemented special PT for all you AFSOC Candidates. This includes pool time for swimming, not water-con. I will say, for the individuals that were driven and received their Berets, they were all doing midnight PT 3-5 times a week in the Latrine. We would take a broom stick and lay it across the stalls for pull-ups and chin-ups. Tabbatta Squats, Box Jumps, 20min abs, variations of push-ups ect... The guys that were dedicated, and worked out consistently... I will say, not all of them made it throughout the two hear pipeline... But not a damn one of them quit indoc or selection. It's a mentality.

@hester23x Normal depth perception. If you haven't gone to MEPS yet research everything you can about the depth test because a lot of people get screwed by bad administration of the test (including myself). Just check the forums for what people have done to help pass the test but the most important thing is to no let the proctor rush you.... because they likely will and often always do.
@kenlandry878310 жыл бұрын
@jsk8drummer It's more orientated towards the Controllers, J's, and Weather guys. All three career fields have the highest physical demands. ST* TACP also will need to obtain or shoot for these goals. I would recommend SERE to be as competent in the water too. I understand it's not likely candidates will meet it exceed all these goals, correct form will be enforced throughout the pipeline. An individual that does '95 civilian push-ups' will come into the pipeline only knocking out '75' with correct form. And Jsk8... Exceeding the standard is the standard. Training is 90% Mental and 10% Physical.

What kind of program is it, does it work?
@BAMFITNESSUSA8 жыл бұрын
I just did a practice PAST and I was able to do the under waters, my 500 yard was 8:40 (and it wasn't too hard) my 1.5 was 10:12 (fail) my pull ups were 13, my pushups were only 30 (fail). I spent most of my training on underwater training, breath holding, swimming 500 yards and doing pullups. It's good because you will be able to identify any weaknesses you might have and then improve upon them greatly. It is a 6 month preparatory program for pararescue. It's a combination of running, swimming, and calisthenics. It's a really effective program I got from someone who was in the pararescue program.

@BAMFITNESSUSA8 жыл бұрын
I made some videos detailing the breath holding program. Basically, the program is 5 weeks long. You start off laying on your back, on land, and you will learn how to breathe up. "Breathing up" is a preparatory technique you would do before freediving, and it will also help you with any exercise. Week 1: Dry Static breath holds of 30,45,1 minute, 1.5 minutes, 2 minute, 2.5 minutes, and 3 minutes for each of the first 7 days. When I first tried this I was not able to hold my breathe that long, but I was able to greatly increase my ability within the 5 weeks by doing the exercises. Week 2: Dry dynamic: First seated, then standing, then walking for 7 days. Week 3 is Wet Dynamic - underwater swimming for a distance. Week 4 is combination work of land and underwater. Week 5 is combination work and the final wet static breathe hold. I will give you all the details if you want, I made videos with more tips and more descriptions. I'm going to make a free diving video today at a waterfall and I will post that either later today or tomorrow. Thank you for your interest and have fun!

Swimming is a very important exercise and not enough people actually consider it. But I am not a believer in just one form of training as a varied approach is needed. I am a boxer but I do not just train within the methods of boxing. The 3 main areas of training to consider are flexibility, strength and cardio. I have previously served in the royal marine commandos were there is an all round approach to fitness.

Being on a Varsity Swim Team for a few years, i would say count your strokes and don't psyche yourself out. Keep an even pace and don't rush. It was normally a good habit to count 1, 2, 3, breath, and so on but i would try to go to a recreational pool or any pool that has a lap lane in it. the beest way to get well at it is to practice and see what works best for you! Hope this helped(:

Hope this helps some and if your gonna go for it then good luck.

Collector2006 you can use any combination for your test, but they recommend using freestyle or sidestroke. You should know/be comfortable with all strokes however + know combat side stroke/rescue stoke and swimming both with and without fins (you can look at the specific style of fins, I believe they are similar to the ScubaPro Jet Fins)
@bighands6912 жыл бұрын
You should consider doing HIIT which is high intensity interval training. This can make your body adapt to intense exercise. You should also consider taking up Fartlek training when you go running this means varying the speed such as fast slow. Have a look at Tabata training on a stationary bike no other method counts. This involves 20 seconds of all out fast cycling followed by a 10 second rest. Do 8 of these and then stop no more training. This only take 4 minutes but is extreme.

Do some research on free diving. You could also consider breathing exercise. I would recommend that you take up free diving and scuba as this will increase lung capacity. There are routines you can do so as to increase your breath time. Also try swimming under water for extended periods. One thing to keep in mind is take one step at a time you do not want to blank out that would be dangerous so doing it with a mate is a good idea.

Does anyone know for sure about the 50 meter underwater test at PJ indoc?
@voskoff712 жыл бұрын
its going to be alot rougher than this. your selection training will force you to go without sleep and do more than the test. the pt tests in general for any field or carrer path are very small samples of whats expected of you.
@galenham13 жыл бұрын
I just got back from indoc and they did remove the 50 m underwater as a graduation requirement, but we did them all the time. Most of the standards like the entry PAST and most of the graduation requirements are easy compared to what you do daily. if you have passed a PAST and are awaiting a job opening, identify your weaknesses and get that portion up. I lost a lot of strength and endurance (thins only happens to some, not all) in BMT, but if this is something you really want, it is possible.

I have not served in the USAF but from my experience if you are training for selection you need to consider running, calisthenics and swimming ( you have probably master swimming but still be mindful of adding to you abilities). Do some research into different training methods for running such as steady state and interval training. There also videos on military calisthenics. calisthenics is misunderstood and least practised training form and having a good foundation is very important.
