Dealing with a UC claim now. It was denied at first and I filed an HLR. Duty to assist was found and now I'm waiting for yet another C&P exam and have been for a while. Since the HLR, I've dealt with 2 more flair ups that I believed are from stress and anxiety lately. Hoping the C&P exam is scheduled sooner than later.

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 3 weeks after I was discharged in 1998. I have had it ever since. Even been hospitalized before I didn’t know I could file a claim for it so I was late to file I filled it about a year ago and it was declined so now I’m in a higher review. And now they said they are correcting an error. I sent them 700 pages of medical records so hopefully they can help me out

If IBD is diagnosed within one year of discharge, by the VA, is there a presumption of service connection?

Can UC/Crohn's be a secondary claim to IBS/GERD? I have IBS/GERD as service connected on my record. I also have an upcoming colonoscopy scheduled because my GI doc suspects I may have Crohn's.

I have crohns disease and it came out of no where and they say they don't know why I have. I looked through my military records and it showed I went to sick bay quite a few times and they just said oh she has a stomach bug. Can crohns be something to also claim.

Did you acquire Crohn's while serving or within a year of discharge? If so, you can definitely claim it, and it should be service connected. Otherwise you would have to provide more evidence for a service connection.

quick question.. i was denied for my back and tinnitus claim in 96' .. ok. then last year I made a different claim (ptsd). I believe the process is almost done, then last week two exams were made for my back and tinnitus ( I never re-opened that claim).. any idea what that means for me ??

Contacting the VA is a great idea. Also if you would like to continue with those claims...start preparing yourself with DBQ'S. If not you could cancel those exams. If you think you have a claim "go for it."😊

I claimed colitis secondary to my back injury because I was taking Ibuprofen for 20 some years for my back and sciatica and it caused me to have colitis, I have to take emeprozole 20 mg every day to keep the flareups from occurring. Problem is my back claim was denied I am now in HLR waiting for a decision….. I found a pubmed article that states relationship of ibuprofen causation of colitis. If it helps anyone.
