Oh my gosh my Everglades tomatoes are 7 foot tall. They grow like monsters. I'm pulling them out of my garden and giving them their own fence trellis. I'll never mix them in my garden space again. On a side note they are camouflaging the kayak on the fence quite well. And they're delicious!

I always start carrots in the late Fall. I harvest in Spring, same with onions, and garlic. We are growing 5 varieties of tomatoes, 7 varieties of peppers, 3 varieties of onions, 3 varieties of garlic, a big plot of Peaches and Cream corn, a small plot of Peaches and Cream corn, 2 varieties of eggplant, yellow zucchini, spaghetti squash, cantaloupe & 2 varieties of green beans. I will be starting all of my brassicas towards the end of the month. I'm also starting a lot of herbs. Corn does well in Florida in the Fall. I'm in zone 9b, mine is about knee high now.

See! That is what I was thinking with carrots! I'm glad you had success. The packets can really be off for Floridians. I love it! You are rocking the vegetable garden! Oh and you started the corn already. Very cool to know.

I planted the salsa blend this spring. All seeds germinated. However, you don't know what you have until they begin fruiting. There was a high number of Jalapeno and soranno peppers.

I did Everglades tomatoes earlier in the year. I used cloth bags and trellises. Had a ton of production. Was harvesting every other day and gave away a bunch. Have more started and can't wait until they get big enough to produce. BTW... the seeds can take a while to germinate and they don't always pop up out of the ground at the same times.

You should plant some of our native basil in your garden! It's endangered in the state, can be grown as a perennial, and is extremely productive. There's a nursery in Tampa called LittleRedWagon that sells them!

I just went there and it’s a super sweet little place. Lots of fun flowering plants and you would love it Jacqueline because they’re big thing is butterfly gardens! I also got some of the native basil!

As another Florida grower I'm right with you about fall. But for me I grow my summer plants till at least October ( still to hot and pests are to bad) for my fall and winter plantings. This was my first time seeing your videos but cant wait to watch more. Love to see what other Florida gardeners are growing.

I think I'm in the same boat! It was soo hot & dry here just south of Tampa that my tomatoes & peppers stayed alive, but haven't started producing anything since April until now...now I have a dozen peppers that just popped up overnight! I think I'm gonna let them continue on & wait until later to start the fall stuff! Maybe much later if this heat persists...

You are so funny. I am dreaming about starting my fall garden as soon as we get back down there. I'm so excited. I wanna have my own little Florida food forest one day is one of my many dreams. So thankful for you and other Florida gardeners who share their wisdoms on Florida gardening cause I am so clueless. I grew up growing in upper Michigan and tried in Florida a few times as an adult with not much luck. but I am looking forward to trying again. I love your humor it helps my A.D.D brain stay a little more focused then normal. Bugs almost always ate any food I had success with and if they didnt the flooding rain..it killed all my baby trees I grew from seed. I was so heartbroken. I grew them indoor for many years. They were so beautiful this was many years ago and It still makes me sad. I guess I get to attached to my trees especially. Rip my baby avacado and mango and grapefruit and lemon and one I don't remember it's name I bought from a yard sale. I am so excited to try again and trying to educate myself as much as possible sooo. I am your new biggest fan! Thank you so much for sharing what you have learned.

Yellow pear were so productive for me. Grew them for my puppy and me. Found about 10 to 15 hot worms. Took them out and am replanting 🥰

Unfortunately I planted it in the mid of April ( the ex seedlings died before) so in the end of July/August they stopped to produce fruits only flowers which didn't develop into tomatoes..so maybe I harvested 11 delicious tomatoes from 3 plants!!!

Here in north central FL I grow eggplants (2) and they overwinter till spring growing eggs. I love them oven fried and into lasagna. I love them just plain ole oven fried. Hard to save any for dinner, I eat them up. But if you grow in a pot, you can pull it into garage or some shelter if it drops to low temp and just pull them out the next day to enjoy the sun. In fact, no pest pressure makes them my favorite for fall.

I loved your delivery, you always cheer me up. I wished we were neighbors. Corn is my challenge too, I got them to have a tiny pod and then...the next day it got black, dried and died, so I'm so sorry that I can't contribute this time. Sweet potatoes no, but I tried regular tiny potatoes and, it was a joke, I got them to grow but the harvest was small and smaller than what I planted. Same with carrots, not worth the care and time in my opinion. Good luck my fellow gardeners! 🌷❤️🤗🍀

Hopefully they will go better this year. I'm switching them to a sunnier location. I got a lot of greens and not much root. But that packet from the store... i'm super suspicious of the timing. And it sounds like from Flordians who have been successful started their carrots in late Fall which is what I did (except in a shady location). So I'll do the experiment and hey... maybe I'll get some butterflies. Hope it goes better for you too!

Probably the pepper you are talking about is (Ají cachucha in Cuba) (Ají dulce in Mexico) That’s the flavor king for beans and stews😋

I'm just up the road in Clearwater and had a problem with the rabbits eating my sweet potato starts. I found that fencing no higher than 12" keeps the rabbits out. I bought the 36" x 12" white picket garden fencing from home depot and lined it with chicken wire. Still have rabbits but I also have sweet potatoes! Enjoy your videos. Thanks.

For the grubs, you could look into beneficial nematodes as a solution. They're not super expensive and are apparently really effective. I'm hoping to buy some in the future to see if they'll help with an awful weevil infestation I've got on my lychee tree.

I live in Northwest Indiana and I overwinter my container peppers inside under grow lights, so I get peppers in the Winter also.

Whoa! You are north Florida. I'm central Florida but in the weird spot where it is almost south Florida. I live in St. Petersburg. The peninsula on a bay really ups our temperature. Check out David the Good he is 5 miles north of the Florida line in Alabama. His timing will line up really well with your timing. I mean... you can watch both of us 😄😉 I may be a month ahead or behind you depending on the plant. Best of luck for you first year growing.

Nice video. You are so funny and interesting to listen to. Corn has to have space. 15-18 inches apart in the row. 20-24 plants in a block in 20 inch rows. Shaking the pollen out helps too. Full sun. You have got to really put the fertilizer on especially nitrogen. If it's yellowish it needs nitrogen. Put on a few times not just once. Maybe multiple applications of fish emulsion, 5-1-1 and the 0-10-10 mixed. Or something quickly available. Compost is great but needs some help. Also don't plant the 65-70 day corns. They are to hard to grow to get nice ears. And heat really messes up their growing, freaks the plants out. 72 ish to 85 day corn is the best and best taste. Use grass for mulch, rotate locations.

Start carrots in mid-late August to extend season. When carrots sprout and begin growing, the weather will be cooler.

I buy garden soil and add amendments (coir, pear lite, etc. My question is what do you do with all those pieces of wood etc, that are in the garden soil bag? Add to leaf mulch, toss, etc.? Florida 9B

I cannot grow temperate corn in the tropics because they require a 14 hour day. I can grow three crops of tropical corn with 80 day maturity because they only require 12 hours of daylight. I can grow temperate corn only from March-June. Beyond that, the days will be too short to grow temperate corn to maturity and the corn will grow very slowly. Root crops do grow better in the fall. Tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, bush beans also grow better in the fall if they are not heat tolerant, but they need a very good disease resistance package especially to mildew in the rainy season. Cilantro and spinach are very short season crops, they don't do well unless they can mature in weather that is under 75 degrees. I grow cilantro seasonally, but I grow spinach substitutes instead that grow year round and are more productive ( sweet potato leaves, swamp cabbage, NZ hot weather spinach, chard).

Do you wait until spring to do lettuce? I am trying “salad” greens and veggies ( tomatoes, peppers, cukes, carrots) in fall this year. I’m in 10a in Charlotte County. I had good luck with cowpeas this summer (black eyed peas).

I would hold on the lettuce and start it in late fall to winter. I got a really good harvest of lettuce this last year by switching to growing it in winter.... 20 pounds... we ate a lot of salad

I have a friend that lives in North Carolina still and she grew little tiny eggplants. I don't know what they were called. They were delicious and I assume the same reasoning would hold for the eggplant that holds true for the tomato, the smaller the less time for pests?

If you plant the seminole pumpkins now, when will they be ready to harvest? Where do I get seeds for them? I thought it was too late to grow them. Do you start your seeds indoors or keep them outside?

I think 4 months from what I remember with other pumpkins. Depends where you live. I think I have time... but you know me, I push the limits. I got seeds from David the Good's Daughter Daisy. She has an Etsy store. The link is in the description. Also Summer just emailed me from Southern Dirt Gardener and she just opened her online store. I start seeds outside. I don't have any good spots for indoor plants.

In SW Florida when should I be starting my seeds for fall? And can I start all my seeds indoor or are there are some that really need to direct sow outside? And do I need grow lights for starting seeds indoors?

I would buy seeds now and start setting up your seedling station. Trays and soil and watering stuff. This month it would be starting seeds for transplant. No direct sowing yet. You can try some warm weather crops to sow in August. In doors or on your lanai really depend on how much light you get in your house. I don’t get any so I’m investing into a little aquaponic system to put on my patio.

Yay for fall gardening! You may be a little early with carrots, radishes and beets (but different varieties do different things). I would wait a bit for potatoes... later in fall (Jim Kovaleski would be a good one to watch since he grows them regularly in Florida). Sweet potatoes you can do all year in South Florida - so go get them in the ground.

Have rabbits in my yard ate my whole garden. Got lose from a neighbors yard. Got cage to catch. only have one left also my snacherzer puppy killed a couple, poor things. Thinking of putting up chicken wire around garden. My yard is chain link already but they come right through the links. The baby ones do.

Are you more southern Florida? I did really well with carrots starting them in the early spring. I was planning on planting them later fall/winter since they’re so cold hardy and I need space for the warmer weather crops first.

I live in St. Petersburg (technically central Florida) but with it being on the peninsula between the Tampa Bay and Gulf of Mexico it pushes the tempertures up for our county. I did mine late fall/early winter... they grew but I had a shade issue with the spot I used. So I'll be switching locations this year.

I have tried planting pumpkin seeds in summer and thy grew nicely to about 3 inches then just fizzled out even with watering. I tried it again about 4 weeks ago with same result. I want to try it again but not sure what changes to make. Please help!

This doesn't surprise me. The summer is brutal to anything in the squash family. I had some seeds that were hiding in my garden and they sprouted just like yours. Hold onto the seeds and try again in late September and then again in October. Well... wait where are you. In Central Florida we are close to the time to get pumpkins... if you are in South Florida you may need to wait longer. Also it depends on the type. The store bought ones have never done well for me. Only seeds that came from pumpkins of a local farmer. So try Seminole pumpkins. @@WildFloridian Thank you, I live in Central Florida in the Orlando area. I will try it again. Maybe I'll try better seeds or buy a pumpkin at famers market and save for next year.

@@WildFloridian If it takes 4 month to harvest a Seminole pumpkin and your pumpkins are coming in now that means that you must have planted them sometime in May? That means growing in the heat of Summer? But in the above post we should be planting in Sept or Oct. I'm very confused. Can you clarify?

Do you not buy seeds online? It looks like all of your seeds are from Home Depot. There are a gazillion varieties of heirlooms that you could be growing if you ordered seeds from Baker Creek, Botanical Interests, Hudson Valley, Park Seed, Victory Seeds, MI Gardener, etc.

LOL! I do buy some. BUT I'm terrible impulse buyer when we go to Home Depot or Lowe's. Also, my kids like to help pick out seeds and as little littles... physically being in front of packets is fun for them. I know those varieties won't do as well.... and I can't stop myself. The beans are all from Seed Savers online. The pumpkins from Daisy Goodman's Etsy shop. So there is a mix.

@@WildFloridian I have bought them at Home Depot as well, but I actually have had better germination with the seeds from reputable online companies. And as for impulse buys, every time I watch a heirloom tomato tasting video here on KZfaq, I go online and buy seeds for all of the varieties that did well.
