When I visited my niece in Stockholm, we went to a little food store (maybe 7-11, don't judge, haha) and I wanted some juice. I picked up some apelsinjuice. I took a sip and said, "Ack! It's orange juice!" My niece asked what I thought it was. I said "apple juice." She pointed out there was a picture of an orange on it (which also looked like an apple) and asked why I thought it was apple juice. I said because it said it had "apels IN" it. Haha! That was 7 years ago and she still gives me a hard time about it... but I've never forgotten that apelsinjuice is orange juice!

@FunSwedish

Well... you don't really have to "ask" for a bag. At least not at the grocery store. Ideally, once you are at the register, behind the band, there is a bunch of bags. Small, big and huge. You just grab one bag put it in the band, with the other products you bought. They will charge you for the bags (which are not cheap). So you dont really need any kind of human interaction in there xD

Can't say we tasted the Icelandic "súrmjólk". So can't really answer this one 😅. It does sound like it would be roughly the same. It being "sour milk". At least is makes more sense that "butter milk". That one is probably not the same 🤔. Though I can't really tell 😅

It looks like maybe filmjölk is like buttermilk, in America (and, possibly elsewhere)? If you don't know, buttermilk isn't buttery, it's sour, like it's gone off. People here sometimes use it for baking (like in buttermilk biscuits). Some people just drink it; my mormor loved it.

Talking about supermarkets/grocery stores, does Sweden have provision stores? We have provision stores here (but more like mini-marts), but we usually just call them mama shops. We most definitely don't do the ICA thing with supermarkets here, although when we want to go to the supermarket, we usually just tell people we're buying stuff😶 Also, with the "ursäkta, var är mjölken någonstans" bit, and how saying that sentence without "någonstans" sounds curt, that's usually how we ask things here😭👍 Not that we're not big on being polite (of course we say excuse me), but we mostly just want to get our groceries and go home- Absolutely loving how in Singapore cashiers either stuff the receipt in your grocery bag or withhold the receipt without asking if you want it or not -_- P.S Sɪɴɢᴀᴘᴏʀᴇᴀɴs ᴀʟsᴏ ʟᴏᴠᴇ sᴋɪᴘᴘɪɴɢ ʟᴇᴛᴛᴇʀs ɪɴ ᴡᴏʀᴅs- Wᴇ'ʀᴇ ᴘʀᴇᴛᴛʏ ʟᴀᴢʏ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴀsᴘᴇᴄᴛ ᴛᴏᴏ

Hej. I'm about to go to Sweden for a work project and I'm supposed to have my company's fiscal number (it's a company within the EU) on every "kvitto" I take (so I can justify my expenses with them). Is it common (or even possible) to request this at supermarket or other affärer i Sverige?
@FunSwedish

The recipt from the cash register will typically have info like date/time, total amount, gross/net/VAT, payment method and if cash,amount received and change returned. Also the company's organisationsnummer (corporate ID, much like a persons 'personnummer. ) I don't see how they'd get YOUR company's ID on there without adding it by hand (I doubt most grocery store style cash registers have any means of inputting random text on a receipt (a system using essentially a full computer (screen, keyboard etc) could likely do it, but that's normally not what they have in a grocery store, more likely in other places) - and adding by hand you could do yourself... If a company were to send an invoice to your company then that would be no issue (need the VAT regitration number too, for reverse VAT charge within EU) But that wouldn't be the typical situation for a grocery store... Curious, how would you/they deal with a receipt from say a ticket machine where no human interaction is available? Frankly, it seems a pointless requirement. If you're handing it in that should be it (as long as the purchase is within the scope of the company, follow guidelines for expenses etc), I mean, you could just as easily ask a company to put that number on the receipt for something that doesn't/shouldn't qualify. Or am I missing something?

Hej!

What did they say when they want you to put Pincode for your card? I heard it a lot but I didn’t get it.
@FunSwedish

Good question! They can say it in different ways but it could be "Skriv in din pinkod" or "ange din pinkod" 🙂

Regionala skillnader kanske?

...a terrifying experience. It's quite strange how it can be in other countries. In Germany people have dividers that they put between each others' groceries, which they apply with great efficiency. I was quite unprepared to deal with the dividers between the groceries.Alarming. Does this happen in Sweden too?
@FunSwedish
@FunSwedish 3 жыл бұрын
We do use the dividers :) Of course it depends on how crowded the place is, and now with more social distancing we are using it less. But sure. Hope this video makes your next Swedish supermarket experience less terrifying :D

What do the cashiers say when they ask if you want a bag? I always freeze after that one 😂
@linusfotograf
@linusfotograf 3 жыл бұрын
Do they even ask that? Anyway it would be ”Vill du ha en påse/kasse?”
@michaeltempsch5282

In grocery stores/supermarkets the bags are typically stored under the belt, before the cashier, so you just pick the bags you need and put on the belt along with the other items. You are likely to get the question in other stores though, say a bookstore. Also, the plain/normal plastic bags are heavily taxed, so many reuse the bags and bring them with them when going shopping, plastic and paper). Most supermarket/big box chains also sell sturdier plastic bags (woven plastic w/ sewn nylon carrying straps/handles) that last a long time, for usually not much more (not taxed due to multiple use) than the plain ones, that is just for this type of reuse/bring with you.

You should add some more sentences. For example by the butcher, they normally say "Ja tack" to indicate your turn. Also you should tell people that the prices you see like 9.95 , doesn't mean you get back change. Only in Sweden I ever see they give a currency price where you can't get change. And how to ask " how much," Hur mycket ? Or Hur mycket kosta det? Also mentioned that you are now a cashless society band you have to do self check out

Great points! Interesting, never though about those small cents you can't get back in chash. Might be becacuase we pay most things with card / digitally, so it doesnt make that much of a difference 🤔.

1,5% fett!? Här i Lettland har vi mjölk med >3,2% fett och det är riktig mjölk.

1.5% is "mellanmjölk" (middle milk, usually green packaging/text. 3% is our standard milk, usually red, "lättmjölk" (light/skimmed milk) is 0.5%, usually blue.
