Nurses are the true caregivers during childbirth!! Most not all are extremely compassionate and work in that field because they want to help! I remember one time when I was assisting a lady having her baby, there was the most stone cold face rude nurse I’d ever met and I’ve met plenty in the field. My client was desperate to use the birth ball even just on the bed but was told no by the nurse so when she wasn’t there my client begged for it and of course I gave it to her( this was a low risk pregnancy and uncomplicated labor) so she cane in and scolded us mostly me because birth assistants, doulas were still mostly treated as a threat to the system because our clients were educated by us as to their rights as a patient and how different positions in labor help with pain and Lessing the time of labor at times let alone help the baby and mother use gravity to their benefit but for some nurses it’s aggravating to have to adjust the fetal monitor and so forth, I told my client she could ask for another nurse as it is her right and the next one was a blessing and was so happy a doula was their to help! Since the nurses do most of the care during birth and catch their fair share of babies many go into the midwifery field and quite a few chose Homebirth, doctors as well. Educating yourself on the subject of pregnancy and childbirth options plus choosing a birth practitioner that is open to your wishes rather than laughing and saying good luck( I’ve seen that with my own 2 eyes) is so very important! I had a similar situation after my c-section. I *needed* to wash my face. I felt so disgusting. There was a sink just 10 feet from my bed. My catheter was still in, but I could move my legs. She taped the catheter to my leg and let me lean on her to get to the sink and, like you said, blood bath all over the floor. I was trying to clean it up with paper towels and she was so nice about it 😅

Whan my mom had a c section sh had to lay like a star fish for 3 hours before holding me 💀

I had a c section to. I found it so awful that it took an hour before I could hold my baby 😢 zbd then j was so tired after 24 hours and I rather would sleep.. not a pink cloud feeling at once

Really? I had a C-section too, emergency tho with mines. But the dr actually did such a great job cleaning durring the C-section that I never actually bled. She took everything out that was due to shed durring the surgery. She was a blessing. I never got the two or more weeks of it. No pitocin either to motivate my uterus. It was my first too so I just assumed every C-section didn’t bleed vaginally as dr was supposed to suck it all out prior to closing. I did not hold my daughter skin to skin tho until almost an hr after. 😢

You're not alone. Many women have a traumatic stories of giving birth or undergoing any gynecological procedure (which female patients aren't given anesthesia or even pain medication for). Women are treated like livestock in the healthcare industry.

i hope it all turns out great for you! also, get as educated as possible, read as many books as you can, stay hydrated and eat. labor can take hours and with the right mindset and pain relief techniques it can be made a lot easier 💓

Your baby and your body know when baby is ready. Mine was done cooking at 35wks. They stopped my labor as well, stalling it. I got pre-eclampsia at 39wks 4days and had to have a c-section. Trust your body. It knows.

My L&D nurses were angels … it’s the Mom/Baby unit nurses who suck! Every single time they have been mean and rude.

I refuse to give birth at the hospital where I had my first. They were so AWFUL and I even brought a special thank you basket when I was admitted. I had complications they ignored AND the worst part was, I could hear the nurses literally b****ing about having to walk to the meds safe to get other mama's pain meds as they'd walk past my room!

My nurse walked me to the postpartum room and gave me a hug. She said she was so proud of me and I was amazing. I am so grateful to have had her support. Giving birth is so scary and vulnerable. It is important to be surrounded by kind people!

@@sweethomechicago no, this is a normal procedure almost everywhere, at least in the states. My placenta was intact both times and I had fundal massages each time and at my two day checkup (I had my babies at a birthing center then they came to my house two days later).

Those are a nightmare! Thank God I had my 4th and 5th at home. They don’t do that at all and I was left alone 2-3 hrs after birth. Best and fastest recovery’s by far mentally and physically.

@@mynameisasecret2033 I have both heard and read that it's ridiculously painful. My friend's mom said when the nurse did it after she gave birth to her, she involuntarily smacked him because it hurt so much.

That's weird. I am on my 5th and I have delivered in 4 different hospitals, all amazing experiences as far as staff.

I was also starving after my emergency c-secrion, but the nurses put me on a do not eat list and wouldnt take me off, but also said they dont think i needed to be on there. For two days! My husband had to leave and bring me food but i was livid. The hospital was supposedly one of the best in my state, but they made a LOT of mistakes.

When my former coworker gave birth to her 2nd daughter, she was dilating and contracting regularly, but Baby wouldn't descend. They did a quick ultrasound...the tech asked "When's the last time you peed?" She was given a bedpan and her daughter was delivered very soon after. Her bladder was so full it was obstructing her daughter from descending!

Pain relief with anything other than ibuprofen and Tylenol is SUPER rare. Which is completely messed up.

This is why we lead the world in fentanyl overdoses. There’s no adequate pain relief so people turn to the street and end up getting fake pills.

I think it's supposed to be "uninterrupted". At the hospital I was at most recently, they did not even let my husband hold the baby until that first hour was up. He didn't mind, but I was like "He's been praying for this baby too, I can share!"

Yes, uninterrupted is what I think she meant to say. The context is saying you can ask the weights and measurements can be done in the first hour but otherwise it's best to have that time with baby and do that after

Baby feels everything you feel. Trust me my anxiety was so bad during my pregnancy until I felt him move or heard his heartbeat at my Dr appointment but I just had to remind myself I'm doing everything I can to make him healthy and strong and me stressing isn't good for him so I took a deep breath and let go of things that were out of my control ❤️ and try to avoid the pregnancy loss videos, it was so hard on me as well made me cry every time but it got better once I stopped watching them

It's so fortunate that the culture around labor and birth is changing for moms and their babies!

I know you asked her, and not me, but I think that arguably the most likely and common answer you'd receive from anyone who works in either L and D or pediatrics that seeing a stillbirth or the death of an infant is the worst part about their job. Most babies are born healthy, but it's inevitable that you'll see some that aren't. Not all will live, sadly. And seeing the baby's parents or other loved ones in heartbreak over it can be very saddening to witness.
