Dr. Christal Sohl discusses her cutting-edge research on cancer metabolism using easily understood imagery and metaphors, while sharing the personal stories that inspire her and other scientists to fight cancer with urgency and determination. Dr. Christal Sohl first fell in love with scientific research as an undergraduate at the University of Oklahoma, where she helped synthesize chemical models of pollution-damaged heme. She then obtained her PhD in Biochemistry at Vanderbilt University where she studied the molecular mechanisms of a class of drug metabolizing enzymes called P450s. A postdoctoral fellowship brought Dr. Sohl to the Department of Pharmacology at Yale University where she explored treatment strategies against HIV and cancer. In 2015, she joined the faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at San Diego State University, where she is currently an Assistant Professor. Prof. Sohl leads a bright and diverse team of “Sohlmates” who are exploring how metabolic enzymes become altered to drive tumor development and growth. By understanding how enzymes go "rogue" in cancer, we can establish the mechanisms behind tumor formation and identify new drug targets to combat this complex disease. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I had cancer as a child. I couldn't stand eating. My mom brought me stuff and said I needed to take the vitamins and food she brought me. At one point I was diagnosed terminal. I stopped completely eating anything, except what my mom brought me. A month after being diagnosed terminal, all cancer was gone. Mom suffered a stroke years ago. So much knowledge was lost. Smartest person I ever knew. She is actually improving, which they said was impossible. She still isn't who she was before. My hope is she will again be.

I thought she was going to speak on prevention. Cancer thrives on sugar, eliminate it. Cancer dies in oxygen, increase it through exercise and activity and deep breathing. Cancer increases its rate of duplication the longer we are inert, disrupt it by waking and moving during the night. An ounce of prevention is worth a hundred pounds of cure if the cure is chemo.

Fork over knives documentary goes into some details about certain foods we eat that are food for cancer. The protein in chicken meat and cheese if consumed in large amounts can increase your risk of cancer. Also people forget that alcohol is a form of sugar. So table sugar feeds cancer too. If you get cancer, cut all refined sugars - including alcohol. We want to starve the cancer. But the most effective diet is 51% raw food and 80% vegetable and zero refined sugars. Also there are certain foods that are powerful anti cancer foods, like broccoli sprouts. Also the importance of Melatonin for controlling free radicals/oxidants (cancer causes). We need to control the amount of bright blue light that we expose ourselves to at night. So reduce screen time. Also get up in the morning and exposing your eyes to morning light and sun rises. So having that morning walk outside is very important. But the most important thing is to reduce or remove all refined sugars. But thank you for your very simple and effective advice. NIR (Near Infra Red) light is a good therapy for increasing cellular level Melatonin production. To get more details on the light therapy - search KZfaq for "Sunlight: Optimize Health and Immunity (Light Therapy and Melatonin)". The MedCram Channel has a great video on it.

Physicians like Otto Buchinger used fasting to help patients kill cancer cells/tumors and heal from diseases. His work started 100 years ago, very controversial at the time but very revolutionary. There's definitely a need to 'starve' bad cells. Worth taking a look into. Everyone should be practicing intermittent fasting or a 4-6 day fast once or twice a year to boost autophagy and cellular health. Keto diets help with the transition, make sure to consume enough electrolytes, limit exercise, and start eating again with light meals such as bone broth. The medical system is about $$$ and keeping people sick. Our focus should be on diet/fasting and immunity boosting lifestyles. Edit: Yes fasting has been practiced by ancient cultures too. Our ancestors' knowledge is consistently forgotten or discredited, whether intentional or not. The truth of what's good for us can't be hidden permanently. People will keep rediscovering what is optimal for the body and mind.

@@kyommi3787 that depends, but within a daily 8hr-5hr eating window I'd strongly suggest home cooked meals. Avoid eating chemical concoctions of processed foods and eat seasonal and regional, similar to what your ancestors ate. This means removing hydrogenated oils, using healthy fats, consuming as little added sugars/refined carbs as possible, and eating organic/home grown to limit glyphosate exposure and increase ellagic acid & polyphonel intake which are anti-inflammatory and fight disease. If the goal is to increase metabolic flexibility then alternate between diets occasionally (mediterranean, paleo, keto, vegetarian, etc). They all work, it depends on the person and how they impact energy levels.

A Japanese lady friend of mine in San Diego says that they completely eliminated sugar from the diets of cancer patients in Japan over 20 years ago! Japanese people have the longest lifespans of any nation on Earth. Japan has over 80,000 Centenarians, people who are 100 or more years old. Japan has about 1/3 the population of the U.S. We should have over 240,000 Centenarians here in the USA if we had the same ratio of citizens over the age of 100. Instead we have just 97,000. Walk down the breakfast food aisle in a supermarket in America and notice what you see: Cap-N-Crunch, Froot Loops, Lucky Charms, Sugar Frosted Flakes, Pop Tarts, Donuts etc. all LOADED with sugar! Compare to Japanese kids who are eating Miso Soup with sea vegetables loaded with minerals, vegetables, and fish with essential fatty acids which are great for brain development. Miso is also loaded with healthy probiotics. Is it any wonder we have so many children with cancer. And what do you think they feed them at Ronald McDonald House? The average American ate 8 pounds of sugar per year 100 years ago. Today Americans eat over 165 pounds of sugar annually. The American Cancer Society says sugar is fine to eat and it’s okay to drink two alcoholic drinks per day! It’s no wonder that cancer has gone from being the #3 cause of death when Nixon declared the war on cancer in 1972 to the #2 leading cause of death today. Duh…

Firstly, walked a 5 year journey with my mom as she battled stage 3c ovarian cancer. She’s been gone 5 years and I’m still so devastated by what she went through. And so I thank everyone like yourself working for answer. But… I think this mutation chasing mentality is a losing one. You find a mutation. Develop a drug. Test it. Get it approved. And how long before that mutation is irrelevant? The current model of beating cancer seems focused on killing the cells rather than defeating what caused the cells to mutate to begin with. Just one layman’s opinion.

I observed animals/pets fasting as a child. I also would read about fasting in scripture, had read about it as practice in European and Asian cultures. other societies have been more proactive and eat junk in moderation. we don't have to eliminate all dairy or all meat or all junk. we can enjoy the occasional ice cream with no fear or false guilt. but healthier eating and fasts(& living a life of integrity; how we treat people matters. forgiveness and mercy, humility, kindness, how we live and behave in private when nobody is watching also affect our bodies as well).

Cancer cells resonate at certain frequencies. In the U.S. in the 1930's a microbiologist by the name of Royal Raymond Rife developed the universal microscope- the first microscope that could see live microbes. He also developed a ray machine. By finding out the frequencies of many pathogens (such as cancer) he could cause the pathogen to implode upon itself. He used this in the Mayo Clinic with great success. But there was resistance from the drug company at the time and his work was seized and he died a broken man in the early 1970's. As far as I'm concerned this was an injustice to humanity. Thank you for your awesome presentation. I spent 34 years as a surgeon operating on cancer and knowing that although there were many successes only benefited when the tumor was extremely confined and had not yet metastasized. Once the cat is out of the bag all bets are off. Your work is so amazing and your challenge is so great. The more we learn about the living cell the more we learn that there is more to learn. It is an entity that evolves and adapts. Cancer cells in particular can adapt find and devious ways of overcoming and surviving whatever we throw at them. A truly remarkable ability making targeted therapies extremely difficult as a one size fits all. Anyways, thank you for your incredible work, dedication and delightful persona.

I would like to mention Dr. Thomas Seyfried, who wrote his book saying that cancer is not a genetic disease but rather a metabolic disease. Cancer can exist only on glucose, unlike most of the cells in our body, so by switching to a ketogenic diet, and some other therapies, cancer cannot survive. Results show that tumors shrank a lot after 14 days. When asked what would be the first thing he would do if diagnosed with cancer Dr Seyfried said an extended water fast

Why does Jesus not heal all sincere Christian’s ? I am a Registered Nurse with 40 + years experience and I can say with certainty that despite billions of $ of research there is more cancer than ever, many patients die from the treatment itself and most have a reoccurrence of the cancer as their treatments do not kill the stem cell of the cancer Obviously if God was giving true wisdom to these Drs this wouldn’t be happening It is obvious to me that their basic understanding of the disease is seriously flawed They don’t equate the right diet as having any effect and serve people the very foods that cancer lives on in Hospitals! Someone else writes the "headline" of the video to draw people in. It's not always accurate... But it did lead to a great comment section!

She's getting a lot of views on this channel which means dollars in her pocket. I'm sure her KZfaq channel is monetized so a lot of talking with very little information is all I got from it.

Dr Sohl, you never told the public who listened to your lab findings, what cancer eats and how to poison them. Or are you going to have another video separately about that.

I think a lot of people came here for the literal sense of what tumors eat as like human ingestion. But she is speaking from a chemist level. I have to agree with her by the end of the video n got me emotional, many in this field might be motivated by money but many are motivated by our genuine curiosity and our personal experiences.

I Loved your presentation I found it extremely informative. As Eve has already stated in her comment Cancer cells resonate on a certain frequency and yes Sugar is the playground treat for cancer. If the body is acidic than that too plays an important part on the life of the Cancer, PH levels are key.

W this you can starve it to death. Even if that's all you do and change your body ph you will win the battle and after your not a good for çancer it will go away. Treating the whole body makes it leave and you have it beat' The hard part is not to forget that you are the general contracker of your health. Please do not forget so you can have a total cure.
