I love the implication the Aztecs would have been absurdly more powerful if only the Spanish hadn't rushed them during the Discovery age. In an alternate timeline the Americans never had a civil war, we were too busy trying to fend off a man who could simply walk up to a gatling gun battery and wipe it while an army of slingers decimated Grant's flanks.

@@ayuuraragna3998 To be honest it was more. Native city states did a rush with Spanish minor civ units only for the Spanish event of annexing their entire lands to play despite the Meso American setting not suited for such a setting thus completely destroying the meta.

Azzy lategame units are good for sure but no wonder they look op if Otto pushes Otontins with Azaps and uses Bombards as a melee units. Skirm goon is a nightmare for aztecs, no abus guns seems like a mistake

Monitors would have been a nightmare to deal with from the coast as well. They can range important locations like TCs and TP sites.

I don't understand why people don't go age 2 with the naturalist more often: the 2 cows gives a base 400 food, only less than 500 food age up and you get +2 vills with it. Seems like great value to me.

back when they first added "ultra far" camera distance i believe there was a sound bug caused by zooming out too much. you should try zooming in when the fight is happening

I disagree with your narrative that Ottomans have no good units in this fight. Azap and bombard are just not the correct combination. The Spahi were very effective and showed that the Ottoman player had to use way more cavalry, so he had to build more Deli.

27:30 he still could have won despite the micro, the questionable units comp and the bombards badly protected. From my understanding of how the game works there are certain civs you must not fight directly, but rather occupy the map/deny resources to a point the the sea, the tp, the mines, pump in your eco so much resources you can win even with a horrible micro. Aztecs along with China and Japan and possibily US are this kind of civ.

What about massing Grenediers before revolting to Hungary? A major weakness of the Aztecs are that they are pure infantry civ. Also, Magyar Hussars alongside Spahi could make for a great shield for the cannons and grenediers

The War Chief civs are weak in the true late game (30 min or more), because their powerspike from unit shipments, big buttons, Lakota not needing houses, etc. wears off. They are also weak to Outposts, since they don't have good anti-building artillery (Light Cannons's main use is versus other artillery not pre-emptively set to bombard mode). On water maps, they can gain fish and whales to compensate though.

I think Otto lost this game (as opposed to Kynesie winning) Awful micro, and spamming azap into skirms without sufficient backup. Also, tbh, I think bombards just aren't that great (much less with the amount he protected them). Lower DPS vs infantry than a lot of other cannons. That early base push with Nizam and Bombards should have ended the game. He just threw by pushing too far with too little backup for the bombard :(

27:30 push : one bombard shot a single volley to enemy infantry and went down, the other two bombards shot 3 volleys and got killed, one by the war chief ((!!!) the other one by a bunch of skirmisher refusing to die. If you see closely, the damages were very modest. Very painful to watch.

His micro was so bad.. this is why he lost this.. he is sleeping before firing those great bombards.. kept sending 3 or 4 .. if he saved at least full 8 and went with then that was different

Maybe instead of mass great bombard, use mass Falconets/ Horse Artillery/ Napoleon Gun for rate of fire? with Janissary/ Azaps/ Fusiliers as meat shields, with Delis + Sipahis + Mamluks to raid base/ eco

@@blueeurope Their problem is that they have both very strong early game and strong late game, but like Inca, their units have already been gutted stat/cost wise. Only their eco/priest boom is good enough that allows them to shit out enough units, effectively like the goths in aoe2 or zerg. Proper defensive play until you can steamroll is adviced. This otto player overextended his attacks two times and lost too many cannons plus no water cards on this map.

The only way to make Otto works against Aztec is to maybe give Azaps Halberd sweep ability, or attack/ damage increase cards/ buff, or all of them btw, that could be Kerimb, judging the Mosque build order
