Faramir, as the Steward of Gondor not contesting the return of the King is one of his biggest contribution that gets forgotten

I find both Faramir and Sam to be the most relatable. I love Faramir!

Faramir reminds me of my father. He was a loving, kind, accepting and quiet person who was a friend to anyone he met. He was respected by his neighbors and coworkers and was the type of guy who would always offer to help those in need. Our home was a safe space in our poor, working class neighborhood where any kid could come over and play and get fed by my mother, who was just as loving as my dad. My father taught me that “A man stands tallest when he kneels to help those in need.” Also, he loved poetry and music, being a fair harmonica player. When he was on his deathbed, I spent hours reading his favorite poems to him. It was my final gift to the man who taught me how to be a better man. The character of Faramir could have been based upon the kindness and wisdom of my father.

Every man should strive to have a little of Faramirs character!! I wish he played a larger part!

Feramir appealed to me more and more as I grew up. His strength to release Frodo and Sam without taking the ring for himself spoke volumes. Thank you for this in-depth look!

When I watch the trilogy, Aragorns decency and humbleness reminds me very much how Faramir is portrayed in the books. In contrast, in the books, Aragorn is much more determined from the beginning on compared to the movies. Thank you for the (as usual) phenomenal video! I really appreciate your work 🫡

One of my favorite characters in the books, done dirty in the films

When I read Faramir's story in the books I saw a vision of what Tolkien hoped a man could be. Then you read that quote of Tolkien's thought. Maybe I've read too much Tolkien, lol, when I figure out what he thinks from his writings.

I have 3 role models in LOTR: 1. Sam as a friend 2. Faramir as a loyal and wise soldier 3. Theoden as leader

Many fans of the book criticize the changes Jackson made to Faramir's character, claiming that it seriously damages his persona; some have jokingly dubbed this interpretation "Filmamir" or "Farfromthebookmir", among other names.

I wonder why no one goes more in depth about Denethor 's wife who seems was half elven, along with her brother Imrahil. He is of the Eldar for sure, yet she died. Had their family also been given choice of kind? There's lots of questions about her and her brother, who seem to have descendants of Amroth's people. What effects did their Elveish blood have on Denethor s sons? And what was there about Denethor that attracted her to him and made her give up her immortality? I believe it's Gandalf who says that Faramir is much more like Denethor was in his youth, also being a scholar. It's actually Faramir's intelligence and integrity that seems to make Denethor furious more than anything else. And any father should be proud of a son with those traits. But because he knows ultimately Faramir will act in a thoughtful, judicious, and an idependent way, he will not be able to control him. But if Denethor was a narcissist he would hate anyone that surpasses him on that level, and wants to smear their their virtues. Especially if he knows that time has blunted their own sharpness of mind. Envy and hate are irrational and take a lot of energy. It seems to never occur to him that if you marry an Elf your offspring with her just might be better at some things than he is, naturally.

I love Faramir! In my top 5 lotr characters for sure

i love LOTR. truly a fantastic fantasy story. but faramir's account was the most tragic for me ...because a lot of folks can relate to it in some form or another in real life. a narcissistic parental abuse.

In the books, a hero and gentleman, in the movies a whimpering sycophant , I love Jackson's works but he did not do Faramir justice

Faramir was a great character. He was what a steward should be. As for myself I most relate to Eowin. It was so wonderful for her to find her place in the books. The movies sadly left so much of that out. I get why, but it was a shame. Much like Faromir, her movie character was drastically truncated.

I most identify with Éowyn. I like to think I have a warrior’s heart.

I most relate to Éowyn. And not just because I am a woman. I relate to her “a cage” speech and her want to fight for what she loves, but I also relate to her grief and her sadness, her “winter,” so to speak. She’s a complicated person who has been through a lot. And yet she is still kind. And she loves horses☺️

Fun fact: Pippin named his son Faramir after Faramir I love the friendship Pippin and Faramir strike up at Minas Tirith

My favorites, for the entire series of movies & the books are, in order of preference: Theoden King, Thorin Okenshield, Gimli, Samwise Gamgee, Eowen, Faramir, Boramir & Radagast. Yes, I certainly liked all the major characters... But the seemingly minor characters resonated more with me than major characters did. I don't know why, but there you have it...

Probably my favorite character and the one I identify with most.

When I first read these books and I was just 10 years old, Faramir was one of my favorite characters, and one I tried to model myself after!

Movies did him dirty

I find Frodo to be the most relatable character of the trilogy, simply because he's the most vulnerable and because his greatest challenge is within his mind and soul. He's a modest person compelled to venture forth on a quest to save the world, and there are so many times when he, and we, wonder whether he has what it takes to a) survive all the perils that stand in his way and b) resist the urge to succumb to the power of the Ring. For all the physical threats he faces on his quest, so much of his struggle is a matter of will. That's what makes it so easy for me, who have never encountered Orcs nor giant spiders, nor been forced to trek across a harsh volcanic wasteland, to identify with his story and struggle.

The films did Faramir dirty. Such a great character in the books, downplayed by the films due to the Shelob scene

Did not Denethor at one point, too bear some of those characteristics we see in Faramir (and maybe one of the friction points that tore between them); but Faramir did not bear his father’s weaknesses, mistrust and doubt. Would it be generous to suggest the wiser qualities might equally have come to Faramir from Dol Amroth and his mother Findulas’ bloodline. Combined along with the Valar’s blessing we saw something quite remarkable in Faramir.

It would be nice if you covered in a video what would have happened if Faramir went to Rivendell instead of Boromir. And what impact would have Boromir had staying in Gondor.

For some reason, the similar dreams that Boromir and Faramir have remind me of the dreams that Ulmo showed Finrod and Turgon. It may be a reflection of Tolkien's cyclical storytelling technique. Could Ulmo be trying to build the future of Middle-earth by showing prophecies to the characters he targets through dreams? After all, Ulmo is a Vala who participated in the Music of the Ainur, and he may have been making such attempts in order to create the vision (a kind of future) he gained from the music. It can be speculated whether there is a similar bond between Faramir-Boromir and Ulmo, but the Valar's renunciation of their rule over Arda prevents this theory.

Faramir is one of my favorite LoTR characters, second only to Theoden.

I still cannot believe that Denethor would have allowed the Great Boromir to travel for a year to parts unknown when Mordor was such a threat when he considered Faramir a weaker man and leader
