The House of the Ladies is an ancient multi-storied and free standing building in ancient Akrotiri that is believed to be the home of a wealthy person. Having survived the earthquakes and volcanic eruption on Thera, the house later was heavily damaged by torrents of water that flowed through the ancient city of Akrotiri prior to the excavation. We will tour the building's layout, architecture, and finds. This includes the only light well found in Akrotiri and the frescoes of the Room of the Ladies.

It was a brothel. The entrance being higher just means it had an external platform for the 'merchandise' to be displayed.

Is there a model built of Akrotiri to give us a look at what it might have looked like as a completed city?

Good question! The only models we found were the one at the site that was of how it looks like today and one at a museum that also didn't give us an insight of how the city may have looked. There is a reconstruction video at the site of the West House. I believe someone posted it to KZfaq. -Veronica

There are CGI images of the West house, showing how it looked. But no other buildings I believe

@@HistoryVictorum I’m surprised (in a way) that some group like National Geographic hasn’t done something on it. They’re always good at to-scale renderings-for example Knossos, I seem to remember. And this is big! Akrotiri is large & very confusing to us lay folk! :}
