Like JC was actually very caring towards his brother, and they were close, but trauma from his mother, plus the pressure of having to be the clan leader, plus always feeling like he fell short of WWX despite him always seeming to goof off...he had a lot of insecurities and very few people to lean on. Not everyone can be the protagonist/support themselves. Sometimes people need others to support them, which I felt JC lacked severely in his life.

Its a tragic family drama and character conflict across different sects that affects everyone, first and foremost. The romance is just one comforting part of the story where no one is safe from death or permanent emotional trauma.

I would say Wei Ying did it both for JC as well as to fulfill his debt to the Jiangs. And while the absence of a plan to save the Wens was stupid on his part, JC didn't do anything either. For him, it was to let the Wens die and save Wei Ying, even if he owed a great debt to them (Wen Ning helped them escape and brought JC's parents' remains, which is such a huge favour). He never could refute any of the rumors against Wei Ying being evil, he never did stand up for him. They both failed each other. Which is why here they are, with their relationship irreparable.

Thus, JC was told in no uncertain terms that no excuses on behalf of Wen Qing would be accepted and he is alone against what is, in effect, a political coalition of Nie, Lan and Jin through the brotherhood ritual between NMJ, LXC and JGY, which distinctly excludes YMJ, also because of the YHF of the Yiling Laozu, and against the minor sects that do not want the return of YMJ as a Great Sect and are very much opposed to the threat that WWX has shown himself to be. With only the Great Sects in play, YMJ is outnumbered at the very least 3 to 1. If the minor Sects are in play - a lot more. Add WWX's idiotic speech at the banquet, the killing of the overseers from several Sects and escape with the Wens, among whom is Wen Qing, the daughter of Wen Ruohan's favorite cousin, his favorite, and, due to the death of the Wen main family, a possible heir to Qishan Wen Sect and property that can theoretically raise the banner of QW in her own name, that is now backed by the Yiling Laozu who is armed with the YHF and has declared that his Sect Leader cannot stop him from behaving however he wants or from killing anyone he wants, which he immediately demonstrates by the killing the overseers, thus making himself an enemy of the cultivation world, JC's negotiation power is at an all-time low and his hands are tied by WWX's actions. And the next thing that happens is that WWX just like that turns his back on the YMJ Sect and its Sect Leader, the consequences of his actions on either not being of any importance to him, and defects to nobly sit on the Burial Mounds, a heroic victim of unfortunate circumstances of his own creation, his heroics being far more important to him than loyalty to the YMJ Sect and its Sect Leader. Really righteous and noble of him. What else could JC see from the situation? What rumors should JC have refuted, when the most important ones are not rumors, but undeniable fact. I will get back to the subject of the what you call great debt and huge favor later. As for their relations, I don't know whether you are aware of this, but the donghua isn't canon. The core reveal scene in the novel is significantly different. JC never went to pieces like in the donghua, never went into seclusion (that was LXC). In fact, seclusion is completely impossible and out of character for JC, especially given the problems Jin Ling is about to face at LLJ. In the novel they parted in a very different mood and way. Though, as far as I am concern, LWJ is more than welcome to take WWX to Gusu and to be his nanny and personal troubleshooter.

WWX did what he thought was right, but really, not everything he did was right. And also, his loyalty to the YMJ sect was shown by keeping JWY out of his mess by defecting from the YMJ. And the fact that he refuses to surrender his creation is not because he would be powerless, but because the Stygian tiger amulet was dangerous and cannot even be controlled by him, who has actually molded it and used it a few times. You can think of how much ruin it can bring if it falls into the Jins' hands. JGS and JGY are very greedy people and the people like JZX and Jin Zixun are too ignorant to realise it. JFM is a guy that is considered mild in nature and kind, who viewed Jiang Chi, who had several HUNDRED years ago founded the Yunmeng Jiang Sect, a born xia (translated as hero or vigilante and specifically implies a person that is brave, chivalrous, righteous and defiant) rogue cultivator- errant knight and all the descendants of Jiang Chi as having a sublime, leisurely and sincere, free and balanced character, and who says he follows the Jiang family adage “Attempt the impossible”. Obliviously, JFM, who has never in his life for one instance been xia in any shape or form and had never, prior to the day of his death, attempted not only anything impossible, but even confrontational in a matter of principle, counted himself a descendant of Jiang Chi and a standard against which he could judge people, without noticing that not one character in their society fit his standards. First of all, I will say this. I don’t know about other readers of MDZS, but If anyone told me that to warrant their respect and love, I and my kids, instead of being considered, viewed and accepted as who we are as individuals, would have to prove that we have the characteristics of Robin Hood, King Arthur, Confucius, Borte Chino or whoever else, to fit the Procrustean bed of a lackadaisical, out-of-touch-with- reality character, a personified collection of platitudes, lacking in common sense and depth of feelings, who lived on illusions about his ancestors, sympathy and respect are the absolutely last things I would feel for this…person. Just as JFM about YZY and JC, WWX rejects or shows disrespect and shows off his superiority in morals and strength to all who do not fit for one reason or another his criteria. He doesn’t understand a word of what YZY had been telling him about trouble-making, aka balancing choices and risks. Most importantly, he fails to understand the difference between personal relations and formal, official ones, the difference between individual relations and relations between organizations, read - Sects. Thus, he doesn’t understand that Sect hierarchy/subordination/chain of command has always existed, exists and always will exist for a reason, and that to exceed one's authority in said hierarchy is a no-no in any organization at all points in human history. This is not a matter of personal relations, it is the legal relations, duties and responsibilities of adults. No matter what WWX and JC are to each other, no matter what their personal feelings about each other are, their childhood is over, in the Sect they are first and foremost Sect Leader and subordinate. JC's feelings about WWX’s lack of a core are of no importance. Of primary importance is that Sect Leader JC MUST know exactly what the resources and weaknesses of his Sect are in his official relations and dealings with other Sects, and that he MUST know that WWX is now a major weakness of the Sect. Withholding this kind of information is pure betrayal of both the trust of the YMJ Sect Leader and of the interests of the YMJ Sect, because it puts at risk the Sect that YZY, JFM and the disciples of YMJ died to protect. Instead, WWX completely looses sight of his one and only goal and starts to show himself his righteousness and morals, as if his Great Truths will fill anyone with awe and respect, while the people present see dangerous vigilante, who is armed with the YHF, a weapon of mass destruction, whose behavior cannot be controlled even by his shidi/Sect Leader. Not impressed. And JC was not at the LLJ banquet, so he had no idea what WWX was up to, until he had been called to JinlinTai by the “thundering news”. And after that, it was too late. Qiongqi Path. What WWX saw at At Qiongqi Path would have enraged anyone, but again WWX loses sight of his first and most important goal, which is to save and protect the Wens, the chief danger to whom is the LLJ Sect, on the new territories of which these particular Wens lived. Instead, he kills the overseers, who are nothing more than completely unimportant pawns, becomes ALREADY at this point an enemy of the Sects of the dead overseers, with proper support from other Sect against this highly dangerous vigilante, who had created “an extreme crisis” that “flooded the cultivational world”. JGS remains white and pure and free to start his games against WWX, the Wens and YMJ. Sorry, not impressed. The YHF. Had WWX chosen the political way at the LLJ banquet and at Qiongqi Path, he would have bought time by the filial piety stink to think about the YHF.
