Gearbox is working fine, its a CVT, a variable ratio transmission. Its designed to keep in the high revs while variable changing the ratio and its designed to do that. Other than the light on the dashboard and the lacquer peel its absolutely fine. Can't wait to see more on this car :)

I've had one of those back in the day. 1.0L 54hp engine and manual transmission. One of the best cars ever. Not like newer ones. I drove it 6-7 years, between 30 and 40k km a year, it had well over 170k when i bought it. And i am sure it was not the original mileage. Only thing i didn't like is the lack of 6th gear and the fuel tank was too small but thats not a deal breaker of course. What made me let it go is that it was a car with no air con. Very few small and cheap things had to be replaced during the time of ownership and not a single time i had a problem with engine or a transmission. I miss that little car...

Used to have one of these. Great little car. The gearbox in this one is fine. It's a CVT, so it doesn't change gear as such, it just picks a rev band based on throttle position. The S button on the shifter is to lock out 'top' gear, to help get up steep hills etc. The light on the dash is to let you know 'top'gear is disengaged. Press the button and it'll go out. These K11 Micras are indestructible and will run forever. I know of one that's done 400k miles and still runs perfectly. This is a great little car, someone will love this.

I've worked at a Nissan garage for the last 30 years. Your Mirca must be ok in general. I think you'll find the brushes for the electronic clutch are ok. By the way they're located on the bell housing. Let me have the fault code I have access to the workshop manuals. If you want to check something take a look at the fuses in front of the battery. We used to see corrosion inside the fuse blades restricting the current flow and corrosion to the wiring/connections under the fuses.

The 'SOS Talisman' is a personal alarm often worn by older people. It connects to their helpers in an emergency. The sticker strongly suggests your Micra was a 'final' vehicle. I'm pretty sure you have what was someone's sedately driven pride and joy!

The SOS TALISMAN is NOT a personal alarm, it is in fact, an internationally recognised form of personal and health identification - in the event of an accident or sudden illness, wearing one could save your life. The locket-style talisman contains a unique information strip made from non-soluble paper for recording details such as blood type, allergies, medications and contact names, and numbers to assist emergency staff. It can be in various forms, such as bracelet, necklace and so on. For example, I have a friend who is allergic to Penicillin, he wears an SOS Talisman as in the event he needs treatment, but is unconscious, the Talisman will inform medical staff of his allergy which was very close to killing him many years ago when given Penicillin for a wound he had sustained.

Very nice, a china blue Coilpack K11! I own a K11 SE, which is the trim level up from this one, providing you with Electric Windows, Air Con, etc. The CVT used in this era, doesn't actually use the powder clutch, but, a conventional torque convertor, which gives you a degree of creep in forward and reverse, like a conventional automatic. You can tell it's the newer transmission, because you have the sport button. All that does, is let the car rev to 4000 rpm (peak torque output for the 1.0), and hold it there, it also provides a degree of engine braking. Yours seems to be driving normally. The dash dial cluster actually looks like a previous generation item, these will plug straight in, but the N-CVT lights was replaced with a Sport light, which would also illuminate if there was a fault with the transmission. Fluid changes are dead easy, you need around 2.5 litres of proper CVT oil, to (if I recall, it's on my channel in the relevant video) NS1 spec oil. There is a filter on top of the transmission, which can also be replaced if you can source the correct part.

CVT = Continuously Variable Transmission. There are no gears beyond forward and reverse. It should operate smoothly and when you put your foot down the revs should rise up and stay there while the car accelerates. That is normal for a CVT. The coolant vessel on the right hand side, looking into the engine compartment is just an expansion tank. The pressure cap is on top of the radiator and enables any expanded coolant to return back to the system as the engine cools down. I'm surprised that it is still in one piece, they become very brittle and shatter but cheap replacements are available on ebay. In fact there is a fantastic spares supply for these little cars both new and used parts. As others have said the little engine is bulletproof and everything else is basic and simple.(Good luck with changing the rear brake shoes without removing the hubs) I checked out a used 2002 1.4 manual for a friend but rejected it because it had a sunroof (Masticed in but the drains block and cause the cills to rot) and it had air con, ABS and air bags in both driver and passenger dash and external sides of seats. It must have been one of the very last K11's top spec before the 2003 bug eyed K12. Don't scoff at it, it will still be plodding on when all the newer stuff is dead and buried You will enjoy it for what it is.

One idea is to get the micra back into good health with a clean mot and the door rot taken care of and then sell onto someone in need just for the repair costs....or even donate to a good charity. I used to have a 1988 Fiesta with a CVT gearbox, no gear changes with early CVT's, the higher you hold the revs the faster it accelerated. When the speed you wanted to cruise at was reached, you lowered the revs (I remember about 2,800 rpm used to cruise at 55 mph) and the car would continue to cruise at the speed you wanted. Very simple, but it took a bit of getting used to the engine note never being related to the road speed. I'd had a manual Fiesta before this one and MPG wise the CVT was better. I loved that car and had it for over 5 years and lots of happy trouble free miles.

As you have been told in the video, it is a CVT box, it works very similar to a scooter, it works with 2 variator pulleys, and it gets bigger or smaller depending on the driver's needs. Imagine how the gears of a bike work, but without fixed gears, since the same pinion can be enlarged or made smaller to vary the gear ratio. Yours would be to connect to diagnosis and see what is causing it to throw an error.

I love it already and can't wait to see it brought back to life. It looks remarkably solid. To go from 28k to 144k in a year is odd I wonder if something went wrong with either the mileage display or the counter and for some reason it is showing a 1 that should not be there. 28k to 44k is more believable. Still a lot in a year but possible. I wonder if the NCVT light was mistaken for an EML in the auction report as well. NCVT would be the Nissan CVT gearbox. S model is base spec (although there was a more basic E for a while too). Nissan liked to offer auto right across the Micra range. Be glad its not a silver one too. Fir some reason the silver paint on that vintage of Micra used to peel off really badly

I think your gearbox is okay, the car was going faster and it was quite steady on the revs. A CVT is basically a series of belts that can adjust to make the car go faster without going into another gear. Its supposed to be more efficient because the engine will stay in its most efficient revs while accelerating. Basically the sport button makes the engine louder, and not much else most likely. CVTs are cheaper than real gearboxes, but they like to go bang when not maintained properly, especially nissan ones.

The following should put the automatic (N-CVT) gearbox into its self diagnostic test, helping you narrow down any problems youre experiencing. Self Diagnostic Method: 1. Keeping the ignition off and all pedals released move the selector / gear lever to the "D" position. 2. Turn ignition on - but dont start the vehicle. 3. Depress and hold brake pedal, then fully depress and hold the accelerator pedal. 4. Then move the selector / gear lever in the following order: Ds - D - N - R - P 5. Release the accelerator pedal, then the brake. 6. Start the car...(gear lever still in "P") 7. The N-CVT dashboard warning light will start to blink, count them and compare with the fault code list below) 8. Switch off ignition to stop self diagnostic procedure. , The fault code output blinks are made up as follows: No fault found: There is a 2 second pause, followed by the light remaining on for 2 seconds and then 7 short on/off second blinks. If a fault is detected one of these 7 short blinks will remain on longer than the others. Fault Code 1 - The first blink is on longer than the others - Accelerator or accelerator position switch circuit is short circuited or diconnected. Fault Code 2 - The second blink is on longer than the others - Inhibit switch circuit is short circuited or diconnected. Fault Code 3 - The third blink is on longer than the others - Vehicle speed sensor circuit is short circuited or diconnected. Fault Code 4 - The fourth blink is on longer than the others - electro-magnetic clutch coil circuit is short circuited or diconnected. Fault Code 5 - The fifth blink is on longer than the others - Line pressure solenoid circuit is short circuited or diconnected. Fault Code 6 - The sixth blink is on longer than the others - Torque signal circuit is short circuited or diconnected. Fault Code 7 - The seventh blink is on longer than the others - ABS signal or idle up relay circuit is short circuited or diconnected. Fault Code No Number - Lamp blinks at 4Hz repeatedly - Battery supply fault or memory back-up fault. Fault Code No Number - Lamp does not blink - Check all components. Fun to drive, easy to fix but a potential death-trap if it got hit by another vehicle or a large bird.

I was really sad that I had to scrap her in the end because idiots kept wanting to crash into her. I paid like £600 for her when I got the insurance pay for the first person that decide to rear end her I got £900 back and kept her on a cat c then a jag decided it wanted to ram into the side off me insurance then paid out £470 after that I decided she probably wasn't safe to drive so I scraped her and got £130 for her. I paid £600 for that little car as my first ever set of wheels and got back £1500 on her and she kept me safe when other drivers decided they wanted to play bumper cars with me , I had 6 months off fun with that little micra , that car will always have a special place in my memories. The CVT gearbox does not ''change'' gear, it's basically two steel belt driven pulleys one on the engine one on the transmission changing diameter with hydraulic aid and giving a continuos variation on the gearing. The light probably indicates a problem with some hydraulic component inside the box. The first symptom is the gearbox being slippery under load. I'll try a fluid flush first.
