I love auctions. You get the best bacon (or sausage, if you're lucky) sandwiches at auctions. I used to sit there all day - (in the 90's) as an enthusiast - writing down the prices they went for! It didn't take long before I could price a car as it drove in! Loved the banter at the less polished sale sites. Miss those days. I have about 12 years worth of Parker's Price Guides in my garage 1985 - 97 if anyone wants them!

Typical auctions James, a bit like casinos, the house is the only winner. Same in this country (Ireland). Maybe the problem is that innocent private buyers are hovering up stock thinking they're getting a bargain. There is also another theory about prices being driven up crazy high and that is that some buyers (not the houses) are buying stock to launder cash, hmm. Great video James

40yrs in the trade and counting, Simply won't buy at BCA because of their fees if you don't buy the numbers, Polo, Corsa, Fiesta, VW Up, 108 etc etc ..... people are bidding ridiculous money at auction, my solution? I still do what I did 30yrs ago, I travel up north to independent auction houses, and with delivery fees, the lower prices, and charges still makes it worthwhile, however, I have been doing it a long while so I know my areas and where to buy to ship back down south, did I say I hate small Vauxhall and Ford etc 😮 Price range ones are never looked after yet still make big money, me ? I'd rather buy a BMW or Mercedes, AND you're not dealing with spoilt brats that want every extra in the best colours that can connect to the latest Apple i Phone ( which most can't ) and all for under £3,000 ! ...... @@boyasaka I do go to Manheim and Aston Barclay, but prefer the independents dotted about the Country, although in fairness not as many as there used to be, back in the 80's we would get the "Red Eye" coach or train up to Glasgow from London Victoria and attend "Graham Square Cattle market" which used to double up as a car auction, the Forestry Commission used to put all their Land Rover 90 and 110's through, many with front electric Harvey Frost winch and low low mileages, long before they went to silly money and green laners, made a killing on them, and also every 2.3 V6 Cortina Ghia and 4.2 XJ6 we could find, nobody wanted them up there it seemed, but we found a home back in London for every one we could get, its all changed of course and I'm not as hungry or young as I once was, but still some cracking independent sales going on if you know where to look, just got to be prepared to stay away a couple or more nights once or twice a month.

Its all about the small cars at the moment. All those that couldn`t do driving lessons and driving tests during covid are all on it now. The DVLA test centres are working overtime so are the instructors. Its mental. So all the used small cars are making money. Auto Trader needs to catch up with the market. Similar to when used caravan and camper van prices went through the roof because nobody was going abroad to holiday. Used car prices on the forecourt will have to adapt or you will be on bread and water instead of meat and veg.....😂Another great vid by the way.....

I had a silver Transit Custom Trend, high miles but mint. Bought it 16 plate 104k pre covid for £10400. As you know, van prices went through the roof during lockdown, offered it 18 months later with 132k still mint to a mate of mine for £9500 which I thought was reasonable due to the hike in mileage, and allowing for the price increase because of covid. He bought a metallic blue 18 plate, 84k, for just under £10,100 including fees direct from a well known auction himself, not sure about trade only James, because he is a plumber. These auction houses are making an absolute fortune out of fees for buyers and sellers, it is based on a percentage after all, nothing like in the nineties with fixed rates, so ask yourself how keen the actual vetting process is? Not keen at all I would imagine, the higher the bid, the more they charge. Telephone / internet bidders etc, are they genuine traders? You have said many times 'Trade Only', then why did a plumber manage to buy his van? and why would any auction cut their customer base? I could be wrong, and if I am then I apologize, but is this one of the reasons why it is so difficult to get descent cars to sell?

Stick with it bud, get lower fees, I'm on 75 cars plus tier fees, usually 180 quid to 300 on dearer stuff, at least you can buy what you want rather than what your given, delivery is OK at 75 quid, a tip is early on cars or towards the end, I scored an auto astra on a 10 for 825,bid last week towards the end, direct main dealer, no faults, quick clean and up for sale, tbh virtually all main dealers put their cars in auctions so you'll just have to get into it, your much better off paying the money for something that ticks all the boxes rather than getting bogged down with all your toys mate, deffo stick with it. Prices are deffo cheaper where I am up north, but your 300 miles away so maybe not practical, I do hear loads of different accents tho so people do travel, big fees are a killer, try to negotiate to get onto the trade buyers rate, atm selling isn't the problem it's buying them, I think where you are you'll sell at any price so just pay the money, don't write off say a smallish profit on an easy flipper in preference to stuffing money into a faulty merc or jag (dig, dig mate)

I noticed this there where still main dealer px stock going through when about 2/3rds dealers had buggered off and that stuff was way cheaper

@@ChopsGarage yes bud alway been like that at auctions, I think it's the less preferred dealers near the end and the auctioneer doesn't work as hard, I hardly every check before and walk about looking for bargains, I jumped in on a quasgui before Christmas, it stalled at 1500 on a 10 plate, 7 seater, quick rev up, asked the driver what the clutch was like, bought for 1550,no issues, 2k worth of bills, main dealer in this last year, St up at 2995.

@@ChopsGarage it's a mistake to choose 3 or 4 bud, you need to be running round them all, you've probably missed some bargains.

Maybe Autotrader is valuing cars too low since it's the only common denominator for apparent super low margins

Issue is if you advertise on there it has to say fair price to sell

Chops you do your prep and rightly so, but a percentage of the buying public dont? Some dont look at what simular vehicles are selling for ( I known ) and then they just buy. Them who do some homework and see a dearer vehicle think they are getting a better vehicle and we all know that Isn't always the case. If a dealer advertised that a car has had 3 careful owners they believe it even though nobody really knows the the driving habits of previous owners. Because of youtube I know you are an honest chap so in you I trust! Unfortunately some I wouldn't. Regards.

They’re not making money that’s why cars are not selling same cars in the car lot week after week the bubble is going to burst over the crazy prices.

Do you think these are retail buyers who have pushed up the prices by bidding against the trade? 🤔 Hell of a risk to take paying this much if you were a retail buyer
@Broomehall6 ай бұрын
The auction houses ( except closed manufacturer sales ) are awash with retail buyers bidding against us the trade, if a man and his wife / Son / Daughter really want a particular car you will rarely win it, unless you're prepared to be Charlie Big Bannana's just to prove a point ! which can be be a costly mistake just to feed your auction hall ego.

A lot more folk are private buyers at auction because it saves them money on retail price. They need all the wins they can get as insurance policies have gone up too.
