Man City Analysis: New System with/without Haaland/other new transfers or in general an analysis of their play style compared to Liverpool for example

@@sunnysanno9450 In a nutshell, the main difference between Pep's City and Klopp's Liverpool is how the 2 managers use their Wingers and Fullbacks. For Pep, he likes his wingers stay high and wide during build up while his fullbacks or one of his fullbacks invert. If Pep played an overlapping fullback, he would only play one overlapping fullback while the other fullback plays as an inverted fullback. Or both fullbacks invert as we saw mostly in the 2018/19 season and last season as well. The inverted fullback enables City to control possession and move the ball in those tight pockets of space. At liverpool, Klopp likes to use both fullbacks as overlapping fullbacks. So during build up play, the 2 fullbacks push higher up the pitch while the cdm drops as the 3rd centre back if need be (especially playing against high pressing teams like Man City). Then the liverpool wingers invert (move inside the pitch near the number 9) so as to provide space on the wings for the overlapping fullbacks. Both Liverpool and City are possession-based teams but they both employ different methods to achieve this.

Thing with Haaland is that this strikes a resemblance to RVP at United under fergie.Ferguson had to tell the players to start passing to him as he was complaining about not getting the ball when he first joined. Pep needs to demand this for sure.
