Pat the NES Punk how many games will the legend Tim Atwood have in 10 years?

I just sold little samson two weeks ago for $1,099.00 and a decent samson box for $850.00 last week

I'd love a Little Samson, but I'll never pay what people want for it. If I ever own it, it will be because I bought a lot from someone sight unseen and it turns out to be in it.

When Pat sells his collection then everyone else will.

Prices will fluctuate, like with any market, but they're not going to drastically drop in price or tank... If you want them "Little Samsons", you're not only going to be paying for the game, you're also gonna be forking over that "finders fee"... Otherwise, good luck with your journey finding this at a yard sale bud... lol...

Retro video games is a horrible investment. As time goes by more and more people become disinterested in old video games. The newer generation is not going to care about NES games when they are i their 20s and 30s. Prices are going to go down on these games and systems as the demand for them also goes down.

Boomers are not the generation associated with 8 bit gaming... that would be the forgotten generation: gen X'rs. We are not dying off; we are in our 40's and early 50's. My father was a boomer, his generation had practically no association with videogames at all.

Absolutely. Go sell your video game collection Pat if you think it wont be worth anything in 10 years. We will all happily buy them, and resell them later on.

Or you could always just buy a flashcart

A hacked NES classic has the feel of the original hardware but it's a lot more convenient (save states, always works, HDMI, etc). Or just get a flash cart if you want to use the original hardware. There is absolutely no advantage to having the original game.

There is lag, graphics differences, and just the fact you aren't using the actual cart that someone else used in the 80's and 90's is kinda cheesy. I've lost my appetite for collecting the physical games due to the combination of lack of space and being able to play any game I want through emulation. I am keeping my childhood games and consoles, though, for sentimental reasons.

I agree I was collecting prior to the crazy prices and now I just pick up games that I feel are a fair price.

Yep and the moment the price falls the demand will rise. Then people will up prices again. That is why you won't see it drop much.

@@chestercopperpot9459 That isn't how it works. Demand is high right now so prices are high. When demand falls the prices will fall and they will stay there because the demand will remain low. The majority of the people that actually want these games to keep have them. When the prices fall the speculators will lose interest. The casuals that are just into it because it is popular will lose interest. And there will be no one to replace these people. Those of us just waiting for the prices to fall won't be enough to push them back up. Because personally I won't pay more than 20 to 30 for any of these games. If they cost more than that I simply won't buy them.

I think there will continue to be collectors, though possibly fewer, and that the condition of the games will make more and more difference in their sale value. The nice boxed ones will retain value, if not go up, while bare carts and such will go down or, if they're already very low, stay around the same price.

Zev Zero i got in on GBA stuff about 8 years ago. I haven't checked prices in a while. The pokemon games used to be the most expensive, about 40-50 each. Luckily I got the the more expensive games early on. BTW: I'm a collector/gamer, absolutely no intentions of profit.

It's all us Westerners trying to pick up the games we never got to play from Japan I think, or otherwise have decided that the cheaper Super Famicom cart is better than paying the crazy SNES price. Even stuff like Saturn games it's nuts that the North American version is hundreds of dollars, but the Japanese version is selling for at least 50% or more less than that.

If you wanna make that comparison, pre-NES stuff is like cylinders and 10" albums, NES games are like 12" mono records. The amount of people still interested in those periods of music are miniscule and dwindling. Some will always fetch crazy prices, but it's not an evergreen market just because the medium is evergreen.

What is crazy to me is that people collect nes and they didn’t grow up with it.

@@paulmueller1520 Well, shows wanting to show games, and more "geeky" stuff from before the NES was released would of course likely go with the Atari, but shows set after 85? That's when the NES ruled. And heck, you even see shows set in modern times make references back to the NES, you never really did that with the 2600 after its prime, other than the possibly shows borrwing some sound effects that would be at home on the 2600 for computer or game sound effects.

Completely agree interest dwindles there's a rise of interest in PS2 original Xbox games GameCube games now even Xbox 360 ps3 games as different generations have more interest in different games and systems even now I see less and less interest generally outside of dedicated groups for early NES in general there's still a market out there but it not growing.

NES games aren't going to be worth as much because once my generation (I'm 39) that grew up playing these NES games gets their fill of nostalgia now or has already has got it in the past 5 years in this nostalgia remake reboot era we live in, I can guarantee that in 10 years when were all about 50 years old most of us aren't going to give a shit about reliving/wanting to play these or own any of this anymore. Our priorities will shift to less manchildren type stuff hopefully.

@@quibquatch3975 People who never grew up in the days of Golden and Silver Age comics are spending tens of thousands on certain issues. So there will always be a buyer for rare and famous games.

@@Clay3613 The golden age of comics appeals to a more broader audience than video games. Comic book characters such as Spider Man, Batman, Superman etc., spans across multiple media on a much larger scale. Batman and Superman will always be considered "classic", while Super Mario is more of a 80's/90's generational cultural nerd niche of people. Some NES games are "classic", don't get me wrong, but not even the same way and scale of Golden Age of comics. Those will have way lasting staying power and value than video games. Comics are a printed art form to be looked at, and video games are meant to be played on electronic devices. Two completely different things, and printed art is more accessible than some adult picking up a controller.

sonic dv exactly, I'm into magic the gathering and the cards that are played a lot and not reprinted go up consistently. The drops only happen when the reprints happen or the demand falls off. But even with less demand the prices stay high. No major drops

@@nikmidclayton5933 The cards can always be reprinted though, just like coins can be re-minted. Unlike 8-16 bit video games.

@@Clay3613 they did reprint I recall street fighter that glows in the dark and people went nuts cause they wanted the rare variant 🙄 also have people who own companies that do reprint on rare games that they now own the Ip or at least own the right to make copies again. So yes they could reprint the video games if the demand is there.
