Backlot and FoF were built when Paramount owned KI, it still stands that Cedar Fair has never built a premier at any of their parks under their ownership. As with any prediction video, I could be way off here, but it’s fun to speculate nonetheless. For example, if KI only prioritizes a reliable crowd pleaser, then we very well could see a B&M dive here after all. As for when, I would be surprised to see this replacement come before 2025.

I have to agree with your top pick. I think a Mack model of any sort would be a great fit for the area left by Vortex, considering it’s a slightly larger plot than the plot for Copperhead Strike. I don’t really think KI will go for any crazy records to be honest, but it’s always possible. I just hope they replace it with something good.

i would like vekoma to come in and remake it with their new computer-generated arrow track they used on one of their SLC's. it would be abslolutley insane and really keep its spirit there. because it was so iconic for the park and for many people.

Mach rides are amazing, in 2018 the ICON opened here at Blackpool pleasure beach (I was able to ride on it before the public due to having family working there) and it was absolutely amazing. It’s been their most successful new ride so far. They even recently added a spinner to the rear car! It’s also the first double launch coaster in the U.K.

I would be cool to have it be themed as SOB reborn since itd be right next to the original. But honestly I most would like to see something with a proper 90° or beyond vertical drop (somehow CP had FIVE at one point) but KI still hasnt gotten one lol I'd love a more intense coaster. Orion got closer with how intense Orion handles 2 of its 3 airtime hills (not the drop).. it felt like an intensity level that has been missing at the park. Idk what will replace it.. but its gonna be weird once something finally does.. I don't expect it to fit right in visually

I’ve not yet rode a Mack extreme spinner. With that said, I hate spinning! So I don’t know how well I’d stomach one. They don’t seem to spin a whole lot so might not be so bad. Now that’s out of the way, I think it would be a good fit to the park. Definitely would be a crowd favorite I’m sure. Even if I just rode it once cuz I don’t wanna hurl lol! Also, KI is my home park. So having a ground up RMC son of beast would be awesome! I’ve been on this train for a minute. I like the ghost theme idea, however I was thinking more zombie like myself. Even possibly Tying it in with the area 72 theme. Some kind of “Hybrid” project gone wrong ! Would be awesome!

Parks love B&M because of near zero down time. Their reliability is incredibly good. I don’t disagree with you on what you think might replace it BUT I’m never surprised to see B&M rides fill a theme parks with B&M reputation. I use to work at six flags in NJ and they have at least 5. The oldest one built in the 90 still runs today.

I agree about the RMC. Even though it isnt fully a woodie, there are just too many in the park. As it being my local home park, I honestly see the new gen vekoma, but i see it mostly being a gerstlauer. I think itll be crazy.

I still think the best option is a Gerstlauer Infinity with the inversion record. As weird as it is to say, Kings Island doesn't really need a capacity machine like their sister park up north does, since Diamondback and Orion especially chew through crowds like no other. Plus with a custom layout from Gerstlauer they could even add in a launch or two, it's possible with the model (TMNT has one).

I like the top pick. If I was to have my way King's Island would build a new generation Vekoma Flier in memory of FireHawk, but I wouldn't want it to be in this spot. This may be a little ambitious but with how great F.L.Y. looks I think it would be awesome if King's Island would finally go full send into an awesome themed area for the second of it's kind model. Like I said probably won't happen but a guy can dream!

I'm thinking it could be the Midwest's first RMC Single Rail, especially with all them inversions. I could also see the Mack Spinner too.

I know it won't happen, but if I could have my wish, I'd want the first Axis coaster there. It's so dang photogenic in that plot. Paint it up in Vortex colors, put a fly-by right where the batwing used to be along the path.

Something else to consider is the likelihood of California's Great America closing in the next few years, and just as they did with Geauga Lake, Cedar Fair is going to probably relocate many of its existing rides. There is not much in CGA's ride lineup that would be a perfect fit, but KI does currently lack an old B&M stand-up-turned-floorless

What I had heard from a semi-reliable source (friends over-heard a conversation between maintenance and my area supervisor) is new attraction for 2024, not a coaster, but something, and probably not a new coaster until '26 or '27. As much as we want RMC Son of Beast, as well as many others, I don't think they'll do a Son of Beast layout if we get a RMC. Most of corporate funds have gone into Cedar Point and Carowinds which is part of why Kings Island didn't make any announcement for 2023. Also, you're right, if they wanted to break the height record, we wouldn't have gotten the B&M hyper coaster originally destined for CGA, turned terrain giga that we know as Orion. Why they even hyped it that up so much, I don't know, D-back is so much better.

I was thinking they may look into something like bringing back king cobra with a revamped stand up coaster here. It would add the needed variety in coaster type as most of the rides they have are inverted or regular carts

I know you said you doubted they'd use rmc but a raptor or t-rex could work well. If they made it interact with the terrain that could be great.

I ran into an former employee from Kings Island this last Saturday waiting in line. He stated the reason the Vortex was removed was because it was sinking and it would have taken 3 million dollars to stabilize the area so instead they decided to just remove the ride. In his opinion he doubts anything will ever be placed in that area again.

Hate to say it, but they HAVE built a few premier rides coasters, such as Flight of Fear, both at KI and KD, as well as the Backlot Stunt coaster at both parks as well!

KI is my home park and I agree with the Mack Xtreme Spinner as being the best choice for a Vortex replacement - but I’m going to be honest, I think it’s more likely we see an Action Zone revamp before a Vortex replacement. It’s the dinkiest part of the park by far and it’s rides are the ones with the most downtime and need of replacement (sans Banshee). It would also line up with the recent CF trend of revamping parks’ areas (Jungle @ KD, Aeronautica Landing @ Carowinds, Boardwalk @ CP). I’m imagining Invertigo, Congo Falls, and/or Drop Zone being replaced by a midsized Gerstlauer plus new flats, (S&S Screamin Swing?) possibly an RMC 208 ReTrak experiment on Adventure Express, and an updated pavilion and expansion towards The Bat which can utilize more of the empty space in the park between The Bat, Banshee, AE, and FOF.

I agree totally on your number 1 pick ! One thing though about Vortex plot of land.....it's seems I remember when "The original Bat" was there they had a problem with it SINKING down on that soft land ? Maybe that's why nothing has been built there since Vortex ?

Pretty much most of King Island’s coaster history is made up of gimmicks, it's just that most of the gimmicks have gone on to become rollercoaster staples. Screamin Demon - First Arrow Shuttle Loop The Bat - Prototype Arrow Suspended Coaster King Cobra - First purpose built Stand Up Coaster Flight of Fear - Prototype LIM launch Coaster Scooby’s Ghoster Coaster - First suspended coaster designed for children Son of Beast - Prototype Hyper-Wooden coaster with a loop Flying Ace Area Chase - First Suspended Family Coaster Even the non gimmick coasters have incorporated some gimmick features, like turning a train backwards on Racer and Diamondback being the first Hypercoaster with a water Splashdown. Now I can agree that currently the park does not have a modern day gimmick but alot of standard theme park and roller coaster elements were pioneered at Kings Island. Still a great video!

I was just about to correct you about Premier Rides, then remembered the FOFs were way before Cedar Fair. I'd love to see one of those new Vekomas or a Chance Hyper in that spot. Lightning Run is an amazing ride, it would be really cool to see a larger scale Hyper GT with some inversions.

I would love to get a Mack Spinning Coaster as I don't when/if I would make it to Branson. I also could see an RMC raptor (possibly tallest or most inversions) as Vortex was pretty compact and it would be something similar.

Having ridden both A Ride to Happiness and Time Traveler, with KI being my home park, I hope you are right and they build a similar style coaster. Happiness is a top 5 coaster and would be a huge attraction for KI. A Vekoma flyer like FLY would be my 2nd pick as these are the two best coasters in Europe.

I would like to see SOB RMC that interacts with The Beast in some fashion.

I'd honestly say either a new age vekoma or mack multi launch is most realistic. Although my dream would be a ground up RMC. Something like Zadra or Iron gwazi style. It would complete the park and bring tons of new people in.

I don't see any super extreme ride like a Mack Spinner because that would be another Intimidator 305 scenario where it is too intense for most people. Kings Island is very much a park designed for the general public. I think the most intense ride they would put in is an Intamin Blitz. If they end up going with a B&M, I think it would be a Wing coaster because Gatekeeper is older than Valravn and looks better than a Dive coaster. I feel like tallest Wing coaster would be a good record for Kings Island to have.

I think a Mack ride like Copperhead Strike would be my first choice. I would love a clone of Maverick, but I know that is not going to happen. A ground up RMC would be nice in another area of the park as well.

Copperhead Strikes launch is the weakest launch I’ve ever been on and the spinning did absolutely nothing for me. I hope they don’t go with that. I personally hope for the Vekoma ride. Or here’s an interesting take. How about a merge of Verbolten and Impulse by Zierer. Have the station be behind Larosa’s and then do a right turn into a vertical lift. Followed by about 5-6 inversions then a small launch to do some airtime hills and turns wrapping its way to the back side of the old Tombraider building. Once inside we get the drop track sequence then launched out of the old entrance tunnel to that ride into a overbanked turn under DB’s turn around then leading back into the vortex plot and do a couple more inversions before hitting the brake run. And have it be very in vein of Maverick.

With the success of Velocicoaster and Intamin showing it can be more reliable, I think CF could give them another shot and put a Blitz style coaster here. Might be too expensive though. A Velocicoaster-like blitz I think could be different enough from Maverick and give KI that "elite" coaster it needs.

It SHOULD be an RMC ground up. It WILL be a B&M dive or wing. Because it’s cedar fair. A Mack launch or extreme spinner would be great. But it’s gonna be a B&M. I know it. You know it. We all know it.

You approached this pretty well but it seems like the 40% for an extreme spinner seems like mostly wishful thinking. A lot of us have been wanting to see an extreme spinner put in that plot ever since Vortex was removed. It just compliments the lineup so well and you could even work in the Vortex name and lore into it but I don't think CF or the park officials think the way we do. With that said, the recent commencement filing by KI really makes it seem like the next ride might be...another B&M. Obviously that document shows multiple coaster manufacturers (probably for maintenance and retracking, etc) but many have noted that some of the contractors on there are identical to the ones who involved with Orion. Certainly not 100% and we don't know where such a ride is going but I wouldn't put it past CF to install another B&M. And what CP has probably doesn't figure in as much as we think. Those dive machines are crowd pleasers, as much as I don't want to see one.
