I went to Rhodes at first for law and later dropped out for another degree. My friends remained and finished. They didnt know about all these things and the struggle they are going through breaks my heart. Some needs to talk to law students in their first year 🤦‍♀️. They need to know to be intentional about where they want to be. Starting my LLB from scratch with helpful research and information from you has got me scared but ready to start now with the hard work , so doors will be open by the time I get to my 3rd year of study. I'm going to recommend your videos ♥️💌.

Then you get firms that offer less than 5k per month n expect you to have your own vehicle, work long hours n be passionate when you can't cover your basic needs. Money should not be your only drive but should not be a non factor either. Some of these practices are exploitative which is sad because lawyers are expected to speak for the exploited n unfairly treated yet they themselves are committing cruel injustices against their own "learned" colleagues. Was fortunate enough to not have to settle for these firms but my heart goes out to all my peers who have had to go through such torment. Many with financial responsibilities, crushed dreams n unmet expectations have experienced depression and/or worse as a result. I really think seminars should be held at varsities to explain to law students what it takes to attain these positions you describe n what the average law graduate who doesn't get into these big firms/corporates can expect especially during the 2 years of articles.

Some people with BEng or MEng in Electronics do get around R600k to R1.2m after 5 to 10 of working. The Doctors get +R600k during their internship, this jumps to to +-R800k once they become GPs depending on the area they select (Rural or Urban). Actuaries as well tend to start high and climb through the ladder pretty quickly if they're passing their professional exams...but in the case of actuaries and doctors it's pretty understandable and expected given the short supply of both professionals in the country.

Luckily I've worked for Robert Walters Sandton office and I'm now an advocate. Their research is centered around the "big 5" both in finance and legal field. So, all this salaries are what you expect, if you work for ENS or Bowman. Also, remember that Robert Walters doesn't go out and research the market, they are a recruitment company for the "elite" . In essence they collate all positions that they have placed for a particular period and average it for the benchmark. You and I will agree that for an accurate benckmark that is misleading.

How is the competition for jobs, for people with an LLB degree? Is it flooded with? Do they look at your marks for each module? How to land articles as quick as possible? Is the age of a graduate scrutinised?
@atleganggovuza6733
@atleganggovuza6733 2 жыл бұрын
The market is saturated so the competition is stiff if you want to get into a good paying law firm. Some firms don’t put emphasis on marks but you have to at least score high 60s and upwards. Always advisable to start looking for articles in 2 year so you give yourself time and options. I don’t think age matters. As long as you did not fail countless times. Your CV will tell the story.🌸

Does it really matter if I don’t have it as far as competition for big law firms is concerned? 2. Is it advisable to go to law school instead of doing articles for 2 years. And the 1 year of articles at a law school, where do you get to do them?, you have to find a law firm yourself? 3. Is it important to carry all these things we learning in varsity (especially in law modules) to beyond the LLB graduation or we can just cram pass and forget? Thank you in advance ♥️

@atleganggovuza6733

You apply for pupilage the year before you want to commence. Usually in July. Interviews are around September and you find out shortly thereafter if you made it. If you do, you commence pupilage in January. You must at least be in final year to apply I don’t know much about criminal law but I hear you just have to be cut throat and not care because you’ll always represent the accused

South Africa labor industry is honestly ghetto, and it honestly starts with high school getting higher marks isn't that encouraged kids end up studying courses that will. Not earn them a lot of money plus law industry is saturated so companies they take advantage of that and the wage is quite low but as time goes you earn higher, but in general we earn little especially compared to our white counterparts

@trayway3014
@trayway3014 2 жыл бұрын
@@mishjack6857 I did some research on Demanded Types of jobs in South Africa, and certain law fields popped up(not all) . Remember law is very broad carreer, with the rise of crypto, Bitcoin and Block chain that means there needs to be lawyers who going to regulate that sector of the economy. Like almost all sectors of the economy needs laws to guide and create a fair environment for businesses to Prosper and each economy sector needs a legal professional that's going to be updated bout That certain field. That's why u even see medical lawyers, its because we need legal professionals that are going to focus and understand that sector of the economy and who going to liable to deal with issues in that sector. So u can look it up the fields that are said to be in demand in law that lawyers usually don't be keen on jumping on.
