Most travelers to Greece don't know much about Patras the ancient port city. I'm going to take a walk around the Patras Greece city center and see what is going on. I stop and get some Greek food and check out the areas with many restaurants. There is even Greek street food like grilled corn on the cob.
The University Of Patras brings in over 33,000 students to the city. Because of this, there is a huge nightlife scene in Patras Greece. Also, the islands off the coast of Patras like Zakynthos and Kefalonia brings in many tourist into the city to catch ferries to these islands. The city also attracts all kinds of tourists and travelers making their way to the islands of even Italy by boat.
On a hill looking over the city is the ancient Patras Castle built in the 6th Century A.D. This island has a lot of history with a lot of different rulers including the Venetians.

You should have gone to the beaches where all the clubs and the Rio-Antirio bridge are, or to the other exit of the city where there are more beaches and clubs, (Vrachneika)

In June 1979 we were in Greece the last time, of the three that we visited that country since I left at the age 15, my wife was 24. I was born in that country. We visited Crete, planned to stay two weeks. We left on the forth day. Because On the 3th day, morning, we reached a hotel the owner of which worked himself in the lobby. We checked in and sat down to drink a coffee before lunch. The owner came to us and started a conversation. We spoke Greek. He bragged about how many properties he had, three hotels and two houses in Crete, one “polykatoikia” (sp?) (this is a high rise building with 4 - 6 floors and three separate apartments on each floor) in Athens and planned to buy a second one that year, for his daughter who was to be married, she was pregnant. He then asked us how many “akinita” (real estate) we had, because Greeks on vacation are rich so we were rich and being rich in Greece means owning “akinita”. We said we were living in Germany, worked both on salaries, spent 90% of it to survive, put aside 5% for our old days and 5% to go out on vacation for 2 - 3 weeks a year. He cont-radicted us: “if you live in Germany you have pollaaaaaaaaaaa lefta”, (muuuuuuuuch money). He repeated his diagnosis about our financial situation several times effectively calling us liars and claiming we were very rich because we refused to give him a list of assets which according to him we owned. We felt irritated, offended, insulted. We left to find a place to have lunch. We decided to stay there for one night only. We returned 9 - 10 pm, our usual routine. He was in his lobby. He run to us at the door and said: “We have guests here, go around the hotel to enter from the back door”. We called the police, took out our stuff, a taxi (big money) to the airport where we spent the night. We paid much bigger money to be able to leave Greece the same day for ever and ever. Before going to Crete we visited the place I grew up to see the woman I was told to call mother and her three sons I used to call younger brothers. We planned to stay 2 - 3 days, we stayed seven hours. The oldest of the three insulted us because (I know now) he thought I was there to ask for part of money his father had left behind when deceased the previous year. We stopped any contact to them. Three years later, we received a phone call from them, they had found our phone number with the help of their phone company. One of the three had a problem with his heart and needed an operation if he was to survive. For this, he wanted to go “exo” that means to some other country. They have unlimited trust to the world and especially England and only contempt for themselves and their country. Because of their country's restrictions they were not able to get money out of their country, so they said. They needed our help. My wife said “ignore them”, I said I am the older brother (I believed I was) and more educated than them, I could not let the guy die. My wife started crying, she was wiser. I sent virtually all our savings to England. The guy, Giannis by name, the youn- gest to my knowledge, never said thank you and returned only 75% of the money I paid for him but only after one year and after I said I would go to their place and make the story public. I know now, they lied to us, they wanted us to pay their expenses for the operation, although very rich. I know now, all inhabitants of Greece believe that if you lived or live in Germany you are a millionaire. Hope this helps Greece's lovers get a more complete picture of the place. Fast backward, in 1969 - 1971, the oldest of the three, Georgios, was serving with the Greek military and was dragged in front of a Military Tribunal. I was a student, I had no income, my wife paid a lawyer twice to effectively save his life, you did not survive military prison back then and possibly still today. Georgios never said thank you and re- fused to repay my wife. The lawyer told us that he had purposely destroyed equipment. Fast forward, in 1993, we relocated to the USA, after re-unification the Germans were more nationalistic and the number of “immigrants” from Asia and Africa increased daily. Fast forward, in 2018 my wife had a stroke, she was abducted five weeks later and died two years later. Before, we made the mistake to decide to return to Germany. And I made the tragic mistake that is costing me now my life: I found their phone number on the Internet and asked them for the necessary information to send them our life savings, we saw no other way to send our money over. They were surprised to learn we were in America and cold. Very cold behavior. Not even one word of sympathy about my wife. But they changed instantly, became polite, friendly once I explained that we needed their help. At that point I should have cut off the contact and try to find another way to get help. But her stroke was a heavy blow, my brain had stopped working correctly. When they had our life savings they chanced back to their behavior they had showed in all previous life. And no response to phone calls and letters. They stole $73,000 (seventy three) thousand dollars. They had bragged on the phone how many “akinita” they had, they stole our life savings to have more. The Greeks dreamed to be victorious in the Olympic Fights (wrongly called Games) and worked on that. Today's inhabitants of Greece dream of having “akinita”, “exohiko” (country side house to spend weekends and summer vacation), and a Mercedes, at least BMW. Whatever I did to recover my money failed. Their head of state, government, police, justice system, dozens of lawyers, many dozens of citizens in that hole, did not respond Except one lawyer from that hole who tried to cheat me. Phrangos by name or similar. Interpol did not respond. Contacting the FBI now but I do not expect much despite the fact that Greece is now de facto a colony of the USA,. Tragic end of the story: The money I had not sent to the three thieves and the money I got from selling our household and car is coming to an end. The pension I receive from Germany is $930, it is that high because the value of the dollar is high and the wall street has no choice but to pay me that high amount. Zelensky demands more and more money and the Germans may decrease or cut off pensions to retirees to satisfy his greed. Hitler the idiot made one million mistakes, the Germans will pay for one million years. This may be the reason why they refuse to pay to me my wife's pension for the last two years of her life. I am her husband and I have a legal right to it according to their own laws but Zelensky's greed is more important than their own laws as their Foreign Minister has publicly declared. They also refuse to to pay 60% of her pension as their laws dictate. President Trump stopped paying pension from the American system because “you are foreign born and receive pension from another country”. I still have money for two more months. Then I have to commit suicide. Life as a home- less beggar is nowhere easy, in America it is especially hard. At this point, a story I read on the Internet 10 - 12 years ago comes to mind. The story of a Greek guy who emmig- rated to Australia and worked all his life dreaming to spend his final days in the place he was born. Finally, one day he reached retirement. He kept enough money for a ticket and to survive until arrival home in Greece. He sent all his savings to his mother. You always trust your mother, right……!? Wrong. She used the money to buy an “exohiko” and a Mercedes. Her son in Australia committed suicide. The old “lady” had no problem with that, she kept driving happily using her son’s blood for fuel. And she drank the good wa- ter of the Greek country side mixed with her son’s blood. The three brothers' names are Giannis, Andreas, Georgios last name Villios, they live in the dark hole called Aigion in Southern Greece. The youngest is 72 years old today, only he has a family, grandchildren. They said on the telephone. Hope this helps Greece's lovers get a more complete picture of the place.
