Do you use the Bible for quick encouragements? Is your devotional life on a "Verse of the Day" basis? If this describes how you read the Bible, you may be doing it wrong. When it comes to the Word of God, a lack of knowledge is detrimental to your spiritual health. To gain knowledge, carefully study the Bible every day and truly desire to understand God's words to you, rather than just expecting feelings of comfort and satisfaction.

This was sooo good. Thank you for this. I'm definitely guilty of opening the word for comfort/devotions and have never really learned how to STUDY the Bible on my own. I want to learn so bad!

That's awesome! I praise God for your desire to know Him and His Word! The biggest advice I could give is to find a community of believers in your neighborhood, and seek people there to discuss the Bible--both to learn about the Bible and then apply it to your life. When we take our faith, hope, trust, identity, and life to then place them into Jesus Christ, Christ calls us to action in Matthew 28:18-20. Christian theology, or the study of the God of the Bible, is to learn it and then do it. I'd also urge you to pray with God. Have a conversation with Him. He wants to be with you always, and as you speak to Him, listen for a while in return, because He wants to respond. And always bring everything you hear, whether in prayer, teachings, from other people, etc. back to the Bible. The Bible is the verified Word of God, so it'll vet out any deceit or wrong teaching. I know there's a lot to discuss further about all this, but I hope and pray this is at least a little bit helpful. In the meantime... Here's a playlist of The Bible Project's videos. They provide excellent overviews of biblical books and topics to build our biblical comprehension. bit.ly/3sdKNPX Mike Winger also did a series on the Gospel of Mark, and it's exactly the in-depth teaching that builds our biblical literacy. bit.ly/3kDdjWP Reminder, no matter what I say or what these videos teach, always go back to the Bible. These are resources to assist in--not to replace--your personal Bible studying and praying.

I'm reading Ezekiel right now and I know exactly what you mean! Let me know if you find any resources. I love this message by the way :-) (this message goes right along with Ezekiel 33)

1. You quote Malachi to support your argument, but he preached to the southern kingdom - after the exile. Hosea spoke to the Northern kingdom - before they were taken away. So how is what Malachi, in context, relevant? 2. I've always understood that the reason why God's people were perishing through lack of knowledge in Hosea, is that they did'nt know. Because the priests of the northern kingdom didn't know how to worship God. What's awful is that they thought they were worshipping God correctly... nonetheless God would still judge them. And that links in with the false prophets and teachers today. They and their followers honestly believe they're doing what God wants. And God's people perish for lack of knowledge. Maranatha.

Luke 13:1-5 New Living Translation A Call to Repentance 13 About this time Jesus was informed that Pilate had murdered some people from Galilee as they were offering sacrifices at the Temple. 2 “Do you think those Galileans were worse sinners than all the other people from Galilee?” Jesus asked. “Is that why they suffered? 3 Not at all! And you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to God. 4 And what about the eighteen people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them? Were they the worst sinners in Jerusalem? 5 No, and I tell you again that unless you repent, you will perish, too.”
