A trend I would like to see is UVA protection disclosure in sunscreens, some brands such as La roche posay already do this. Also in the realm of sunscreens, more sunscreens that don't irritante the eyes

YES to refillable cosmetics! I honestly don’t understand why companies have been so slow on this- it builds brand loyalty, reduces the cost of packaging, and it’s just the environmentally responsible thing to do. I actually got more into Japanese beauty when I realized I couldn’t recycle the Korean beauty products I loved, but that with Japanese products I could buy refill pouches.

I lived in Japan for a few years but I struggled to find cruelty-free and vegan skincare. There isn't the demand for it so they aren't buzz words the companies market with. Because k-beauty was so popular, there were lists online with cruelty-free and vegan Korean brands and products. Now that I'm back in the UK, I can find vegan sections on websites selling it. If Japanese skincare becomes popular, then I look forward to more cruelty-free and vegan awareness in Japanese products and greater accessibility of it internationally.

I loved a lot of the products I used in Japan, but yeah, I didn't spend as much time looking into the cruelty-free status because I was mostly just trying to make sure products didn't have whitening ingredients in them. Hopefully with more popularity and exporting, this will change!

As good as Japanese Products have always been, I highly doubt that J beauty will make it big in the US or global market any time soon, mainly because Japanese has never had much interest in expanding their own products to be massively accessible outside of their country. As weird as it sounds, they've always been perfectly content leaving their own products for their own people (domestically). This has been seen throughout history, e.g. the gadget tech boom of japanese products in the second half of the 20th Century, they left their own most innovative products for themselves and didnt have much interest expanding outside of their country. This is why their products, e.g. in skincare are all in Japanese, you'll be lucky if you even see a word of english on them.
@helenav8108
@helenav8108 2 жыл бұрын
I think they are already looking for a global market, Rotho mentolatum, which owns biore, hada labo, recently launched in Brazil. At least here, you find more and more japanese skincare products, even at some drugstores. Maybe in the US the situation is a little different because of sunscreen regulations (they don't accept most of more modern filters), and sunscreens are what they sell the most
@BY-px1dr
@BY-px1dr 2 жыл бұрын
@@helenav8108 It's nice to see some of Japanese most successful drugstore brands and products make it outside their own country, but these common cult status drugstore products have always been distributed throughout Southeast Asia for many many years already (e.g. Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.) Perhaps now simmering a little more globally. However, if you are looking J Beauty skincare "gems", you're still going to have to go to Japan and find their exclusive products there. That's just the way it has been for years and I don't foresee it changing anytime soon. What you find outside globally are either big name repackaged products e.g. Shiseido, Boscia (part of the original Fancl house), or regular japanese drugstore products such as Curel or Hada Labo. But to say there will be a sudden boom of J-Beauty products next year globally would be a very far stretch and wishful thinking. Just keeping it all the way 100.

This is so true in many industries e.g. music, TV and film, even anime and manga releases despite being as ubiquitous as they are. Sure, they still export many things and some companies have international branches or partnerships, but their primary audience had always been locals, and people outside Japan mostly rely on pirated material. I think the reason tech/auto industries seem to have more worldwide reach is because these were the industries that greatly affected Japan's economic boom after WWII.

Eh I heard that a lot of Japanese skincare companies don’t rly want to market to the US and foreigners so I doubt it, plus I noticed a lot of those brands have had the same products for years and most people in Japan stick to the same thing unless it stops working. Considering people here like to buy new things and try new products all the time I feel as if they will get bored rly quickly of any Japanese skincare. I love Japanese skincare though, I go there every year and always stock up my sunscreen and toner!

IMO The reason for not having 10 or 50 steps in a skincare routine should not be just “we don’t have time” but sustainability. Especially as a vegan creator, I would expect Cassandra to advocate more for using just the bare minimum. I’m not vegan but it absolutely breaks my heart seeing people using all these products, at least half of it is unnecessary and creating so much rubbish. And no, recycling is not an ultimate solution for this. Reducing consumption overall should be more advocated by content creators 🌱 🌍♥️

YESSS...I agree! In these "Harpers Bazar" Videos these Celebrities use often 10 Products one over the other...my Skin can't take so much of Products! Too much "Food" 😀😉. And I'm 67 years and my Skin is a bit on the dry Side...but very nice and healthy looking. I use only double Cleanse if I should wear Foundation, normally only one Cleanse, my beloved Tonic, a bit Serum, my Moisturizer and SPF. Finish. But it is the same with the real Food.. too many and too much everywhere.

I think we will also see a lot of "blue light protection skincare" in 2022. Yes, the lights that radiate from the phone. A lot of ppl will fall for this marketing gimmick not knowing that the light that radiates from the sun is soo much more and our phone's bluelight is negligible in comparison Edit : As I predicted, Addison Rae's skincare line says it all 😂

When Jpop was popular before the Kpop boom, JBeauty had it's time! I honestly felt like that's why tatcha was created, because of the JBeauty hype at the time. I would order JBeauty from the online stores of physical stores mostly based in LA. I would also participate in "sprees" on forums where one Japan based person would take orders, basically like a personal shopper, then send them out, boy those shipping costs were wild but we were desperate! 🤣🙃 It will be cool to have it more accessible but I would love to see cruelty free JBeauty.

Cassandra, I just wanted to thank u, 2021 was a skincare revolution for me and it's bc of your content! I realised that I'm allergic to most fragrance and started buying hypoallergenic products and I didn't have a negative reaction since. I discovered that there is a lot more to skincare than cleanser and cream, started using spf in winter (I always used it religiously at spring and summer but didn't realised that even in polish winter uv rays still damage my skin!) I tried retinol, salacylic acid, made sure all my creams had ceramides, looked for broad spectrum sunscreens. It was a great year and I hope this will only be better, happy new year and best of luck with egzema, I also have it and using body cream after shower helped my skin alot, best of luck!

Along with tech in medicine, im a medical physics undergrad student and the lab that i work at is actually working on creating an virtual reality/augmented reality suite for surgeons to use during surgery to essentially augment live medical scans and images onto the area of operation to give the surgeons a better sense of whats going on. Personally im working on calibrating an endoscope to be used with this system so surgeons can diagnose and view tissue samples mid operation without having to send samples on rush to a lab. Tech in medicine is super interesting, and though I don’t work in the skincare/beauty sector i can absolutely see tech being adapted into these markets as well!

I think maybe rose is one of those ‘love it or hate it’ fragrances where if you don’t like it, you REALLY don’t like it (like Parma violets, or lavender) so if you don’t like it you’ll bring it up it in your review, whereas if something has a fragrance you can take or leave you won’t bother to mention it. Personally I don’t mind rose but if something’s noticeably vanilla-scented I don’t want it anywhere near me.

Ultimately, it's more about genetics. You can plaster whatever creams, oils and elixirs on your face and skin all you want, it's not going to change your genetics. Will it help somewhat? Sure. But each person will respond differently. Example, I could put x,y,z on my face and not have as good of a result as someone else or I could have a better result as another and that has to do with genetics as well. Same with hair. Genetics play a huge part in hair and how much one grows and where. Products help most definitely but that doesn't mean Bob will have the same results as Tom even if they both have the exact same skin issues, textures etc 🤷🏼‍♀️. And this is why people get so upset when they purchase a product and it doesn't work for them the way it work for another.

Even though Korean skin care has become viral this year, I don't think it is as well known yet. There are so many brands that are still only in Korea and it is sad to see people missing out on them. But it is hard to bring every new product from a different country as there is restriction and test that have to be done to be officially sold. But with Japanese skin care, I think it was introduced earlier than k beauty, but it has not yet got the boom as Korean skin care. Hope it happens soon though.

I think people often misunderstand what K-beauty fully entails. When I saw K-beauty taking off internationally, I was surprised to see brands like Mediheal and 한율 (I think the English translation is Hangul, but not too sure), not taking off. Another point is that trends in skincare don’t align with the US. Trends in skincare tend to focus on ingredients, as the ingredient is usually what trends, as oppose to the product mechanism. I remember looking into an Olive Young, and all I could see what products promoting noni due to celimax’s noni ampoule and masks. So, at least for me, it’s interesting to see how favored K-beauty is in the West, considering the contrasts to “native K-beauty.”

@@andrew-song yeah I noticed that too. The products that are popular here are often not even known in Korea. It is still great that olive young global is a thing now and other platformas are starting to add k-beauty in their stores

My top trends for 2022: Astaxanthin Indigo extracts from conpanies besides tatcha there's a small Thai company Khramer, making a serum and sunscreen, And more serum-foundations! Also more temporary tattoos and flash tats in different metallic colors should come back! Temporary tattoos that activate a VR/AR thing.

I would like to share a little part of my experience with skin care. A couple years ago, I did a quasi double cleansing in my cheeks (without knowing what a double cleansing was), then it got so red and a thin layer of my skin just peel off. Fortunately the reaction was so fast that I did not continue applying the product all over my face. Since then I have been very careful mixing products, and trying to be gentle with my skin and avoiding agressive products. I think the most important is be constant.

@@morgianasartre6709 I applied a mask, then I rinsed with water and wanted to take off all residues using miscelar water (garnier) in a cotton pad. The days gone by and therr was a wound (size of cotton pad) that after 1 week dissapeared.

I love minimalist skincare. I like having just a few simple products that work everyday, than 100steps 😅 I generally have 3 steps: gentle face wash, moisterizer and sunscreen 🤷‍♀️ (sometimes a serum) Since a few years I got rosacea and I still have not found my unicorn product 😝 A lot of moisterizers that reduce redness are too thick and cause break outs 😑 or not moisterizing enough and my skin feels dry and tight. Skin being so picky! 😅 (also depends on season, we have harsh winters that make my skin behave even more like a diva” 😑 This “clean skin” trend reminds me of the Victorian era where you were just to be expected to have “pure dewey skin” naturally. Make up and beauty products were frowned upon and seen as “faking it” and pretending to be/have something you are not 😑 Ugh. I don’t like wearing a lot of make up so the “no make up” look (with a little subtle make up help 😝) is up my alley ☺️

I’m so tried of “Jbeauty is the next big thing” it’s been 10 years and all we got was SK-II and articles about it. I used be in a group that like a specific Japanese subgroup and when that died out in Japan so did j beauty surrounding it. Also, Japan has always been for Japanese the rest world is a just second thought. Also a lot of Jbeauty have been sold in China and I don’t know any policies for cruelty free. Also language Barrier is also a issue. Tina Tanaka has talked about the of the lack of support from brands and those who have worked in Asia specifically Japan and Korean markets.

honestly i would kill for some multi active serums. combining things like azelaic acid and adapalene, or l ascorbic and salicylic acid. just more innovative formulas that, outside of new ingredients, combine some tried and true ingredients in order to maximize results regarding specific skin issues. even charging a little more for them isn’t the worst, especially once you consider the amount of money you would spend on all of these single active serums individually

I am looking forward to more science in skincare. I want people to try less foundation and show off the lovely skin they have from well thought out skincare product regimens. I want percentages or ppm of actives to be available, I want more guides like The Ordinary’s so it’s not so easy to interfere with how an active works. And most of all I want skincare products or devices with double blind and placebo controlled studies with enough participants to learn if these things work and how much.

Cassandra! I have an unorthodox request. My little niece (13) is starting to get the normal but annoying puberty acne, I really wanna help her curate a baby skincare routine which could help her take care of her skin without making her feel insecure. But I am not sure I can give her the actives that I (26) use on myself, because well, she has much younger skin. Do you have any tips for helping young teens deal with acne? Am I overthinking this?

I keep hearing that parabens are fine, yet my cousin’s oncologist told her to stop using any products that contain them. Granted, it came with a “just in case” caveat, but that advice stuck with me. And the argument that they occur in nature, therefore they are okay, just doesn’t work. Poisons occur naturally, too. So do carcinogens. And we don’t understand everything about adding chemicals to a compound and how those chemicals react not in their natural environment. We understand a lot but not everything. One thing I love about science is that discoveries can completely change the thinking on any given subject. We shall see what future discoveries bring.
