For example, in most of Europe it's very likely that even the smallest grocery stores have an alcohol aisle. A lot of US drinking culture (minimum age, separate stores etc) comes from the remnants of Prohibition a century ago.

After trying WT Rare Breed its hard for me to try an other Wild Turkey, I did try WT Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel but for $10 more I didn't think it was much better. Should I try the 101 or just stick with Rare Breed?

@RossMalagarie I think I had Rare Breed many moons ago, but that evening is a blur to me now. I've enjoyed the barrel proof version on special occasions since my early twenties, and I do like it a lot. It's worth trying at least, in my opinion. I think it has a very different flavor profile from other Kentucky straights I've had. It packs a wallop at 50.1% abv, though.

Tried Maker’s Mark when I moved to a Kentucky, I know cliche. The first bourbon I tried actually. And I’m too stubborn to try different bourbons, so Maker’s Mark remains my go-to.

Fun fact: in 2019 I got my PhD, which makes me a scholar. My supervisor complimented me on being a “gentleman” (i.e. I was not a fucking creep unlike other guys). In honour of this, I bought Four Roses, because I am a gentleman, and a scholar.

I've recently over the last couple of months gotten into bourbon I'm from the UK so we can't just walk into a store and purchase the incredible selection you guys have unfortunately so I started with the basics JD, JD bottle in bond, makers mark, buffalo trace, bulleit, JD single, I've just managed to pick up Evan Williams extra aged, four roses small batch and larceny wheat bourbon 92 proof. I really like the soft palate of the four roses but also really enjoy the Evan Williams pepperyness I'll take any decent recommendations you guys have!

Hard to recommend things without knowing what’s available over there, but I’d pick up Maker’s Mark 46 is you can find it. ESPECIALLY the cask strength. It’s regular maker’s mark, but aged a few months with 10 toasted French Oak staves in the barrel. It’s soooo good.

I have actually tried that! I got a bottle for my dad for his birthday in April had a couple of glasses when I went to visit him! Very good shout it was the cask strength one

Other than the wax, Maker's Mark is a simple reliable cheap option to me. For $25 a bottle, it is really smooth and does the job. Four Roses small batch would be my go to pick though.

I love me some four roses small batch! However, I actually enjoy the single barrel four roses more than the two small batch ones. It has a smoother finish to my friends and I who tested them side by side, and it's slightly cheaper! Try them all out! Even the cheapest four roses bottle is fantastic!
