Genuine question; how often do you drive 200-240 miles in one go? I read that motorway range really is not good
@trevorpen
@trevorpen 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnc108 Motorway driving does have a impact on range but I tend to avoid them for several reasons. 200 miles is achievable in the winter on motorways is driving within the speed limit. Rural driving is great in the I pace 240 plus miles in the summer.

I have had my i-Pace for nearly 18 months and it is everything I hoped it would be and more : a pleasure to drive, practicle, completely problem free and the most stylish looking car I have ever owned. We have driven from Edinburgh to the south east of England several times and range has never been a problem. My only problem has been with the charging network but sensible planning has avoided any emergencies. Best car I have ever owned by a country mile.

A really nice car. I do like the design but some of the options to me should be standard on a car costing £65.000. But as you say if your prepared to look at a none premium badge car you can get a lot more for your money keep an eye on the new Kia Ev range starting with the new Ev6. As for Tesla yes the supercharger network is brilliant but the build of the car is not as good as the Jaguar. And as an Ev drive myself you really don’t use public chargers as often as you think most charging is done from home unless you are covering a long distance. So my advice is don’t get hooked on the supercharger buy the car you won’t not the charging format. And public chargers are getting better and more prolific day by day.

I like my 2018 FPace diesel but drool over the iPace when my car gets serviced once a year. Living in Canada, all wheel drive is great, front wheel drive is ok and rear wheel drive is useless in the winter. The hill ascent/descent feature is useful in icy conditions. I'm watching this video, and that BMW infotainment clip, that screen was no more responsive or less 'laggy' than the Jag. The only system I've used regularly which has a snap equal to an iPad is the Tesla. On the flipside, in the Tesla (Model 3/Y), it BETTER be snappy because you need to it to do every single thing in the car, like... open the friggin' glove box. Press menu, press another menu, press glovebox. Survey says... BZZT!

Probably the best looking of the pure SUVs, and I'm not a fan of the format. Where it really scores is in its off-road ability [which this video doesn't remotely cover] in which it is practically second to none. How is the ride quality overall? 2. What is the fit and finish like, is it as solid as a BMW? 3. Has it been reliable? Great review and car! Sadly I won't buy electric until the manufacturers sort out charging points. I insist on all cars using the same standard charging plug, that all charging stations use that plug and allow a quarter full charge in 15 minutes. Lastly that all charging stations allow payment by any card without having to attach the card or use an app just as with petrol. Only then will electric cars become viable. Otherwise you are limited in range to your home overnight charge. Up to the manufacturers and government to get together and insist on standardisation.

Whilst some buyers will choose charging speed and range as a deciding factor for their purchase, the I-pace is a luxury EV, competing with the Audi E tron and Mercedes GLC. The Kia and Hyundai whilst probably great Evs are deffinately not in the luxury segment. The entry level Hyundai that you mentioned is around half the price is also twice as slow.. They are indirect competitors, but the hyundai in real world can only manage another 30-40 miles range over the I-pace.

@@scottwills4698 My point was never brand loyalty, so no, you clearly don’t see my point. I know this because you asked the question, “why are BMW owners moving to Teslas.” Why? Both are luxury performance vehicles, that’s why. They’re in the same class. Now you answer my question: Why aren’t Mercedes owners looking at Renaults? Or... Why did Hyundai create a separate brand for its luxury cars: Genesis? Oh and no, 😂, the Ioniq and EV6 aren’t better cars than the iPace. You only see what you see because you’re not wealthy enough to buy an iPace the way you would an Ioniq or EV6.

I do believe governments will eventually have to step in and reduce the touch screen nonsense. Everyone finds it harder to locate and use them to control things in a car and the time where you take you eyes off the road is excessive. Physical buttons are so much more tactile and user friendly. But, more expensive of course than a single screen programmed to suit.

The biggest issue with these then is having to pull off a motorway or other road, open the front boot and check for text messages. In other news, I drove one 18 months ago across Picadilly Circus. The left rear dropeed a wheel over a manhole cover and it was still sickeningly rocking diagonally a mile later. Funny the things you remember.

Regen braking 'like every other EV' - not quite. VW, for some reason, does not give single pedal driving. Despite this being a major advantage of EVs!

It needs to increase horse power from 400 to 500, increase range by 100 miles, increase fast charging capability from 100KWV to 200Kwv. Front passenger seat needs to go flat. and if possible battery weight needs to go down then it will smash the competition again.

They built this car so that you have to go for the options hence the bad view from the rear view window hence you have to pay out for a rear view camera on your rear view mirror, it's how car companies make their money at the cost of the buyer.

Good grief - you would think car manufacturers would be able to just watch a 'user' in action and think 'hmmm - let's make those buttons bigger, more colourful, and with more space between them". I can't believe all these years now of manufacturers using digital displays/controls to have worked this out by now.

I have been looking at the possible residual value after a few yrs,and I am concerned.Jag,as with others offer 8 yr or 100000 miles warranty on the battery ,which sounds good.However,after some research,I found the cost to replace battery will be in excess of £15000.To my mind this means very few ppl will want to buy an 8 yr old example,unless it is very cheap.It is reasonable to assume that the value will start to decline steeply from about 5,or 6 yrs old. On reflection,unless the car is on pcp for 3or 4 yrs from new,it is a poor buy in the longterm.In addition ,if this is the case,it doesn`t sit well with the saving of energy ideology,as it will have a life expectancy of only 10 to 15 yrs.

That's not how it works, they don't just scrap the entire car. The old batteries get recycled. And 8 years from now, new batteries won't cost the same as they do today
@charlesbridgford254

So for a quarter of the cost of a new car, you can replace the most expensive component. Seems like a good deal. I guess that's why old Nissan Leafs are getting re-batteried rather than scrapped.

Nice car but let's look at the practicality (to be fair this applies to all EVs)... Range 292 miles, let's say 300 for ease of calculation, that's 480km. I live in an apartment, no possibility for outdoor charging and there are no charging points on my daily 50km each way drive to work. Basically I could pay something like €80,000 for a car I could use for four days before it would be dead to me. No thanks.
@Hirotoro4692
@Hirotoro4692 2 жыл бұрын
The fact there are no charging points at all within 50 km of you is unfortunate but it just means the car isn't for you. It'll still be perfect for others though.
