The story depicted in the movie 'Noah' was actually the story as it appears in The Apocrypha, and not the story which appears in the canonical text of the King James Bible, which most modern Christians are familiar with. Funny addendum to this: When 'Noah' was scheduled to premiere in Richmond, Virginia, the premiere had to be postponed due to...Wait for it... Heavy rains and flooding. No, don't get up...I'll see myself out.

I genuinely love The Village. Maybe because it’s one of the first “scary” films I watched that properly scared me. Even though *i know* the red costume monster thing isn’t real, it’s still fucking terrifying. Not as terrifying as being completely blind and having to walk through the woods and into a world you know nothing of, but scary nonetheless.

The final twist was fine and it worked, What didn't work was the back and forth on whether or not the monsters were real, which got changed up too many times. Once it was revealed that the elders made up the monsters as a form of psychological torture and manipulation, that should have stuck. The scene were the audience is led to believe that there is a real monster... then nope, it's one of the villager youngsters pretending to be a monster, what broke the movie. At least for me.

I liked it. The problem with Shamaylan (sp?) is that it's hard to continuously come up with movie twists that people aren't going to figure out before the reveal. He got lucky with The Sixth Sense. I was ticked off and impressed at the same time because I didn't see that one coming. But he was never able to recreate that with other movies. It didn't make them bad movies. The thing I liked about The Village wasn't the twist, which was easy to see coming, but that this was a society that wasn't just going back to a simpler time with the same gender roles that we had in those eras but that they trusted and allowed a young, blind, woman to have the ability to succeed in a quest and she did. Darren Aronofsky created a beautiful and poignant graphic novel which was meant to serve as the movie pitch to the studio execs and a storyboard. He got a top tier co-writer & artist for this, and it shows; the story expands on the bare-bones biblical story and deals with themes of burdens of family, madness and salvation - it is an excellent read. Making his movie he totally fucked it up, focusing on schlocky action and cheap drama instead of daring to do what his comic book did, the Nefilim were turned into ridiculous CGI turd piles and Russel Crowe looks like he doesn't give two shits about being there.
@gregbasore21082 жыл бұрын
