Nope. This video leaves out part of the effect that appears in the film. After Superman spins the Earth back in time, he reverses direction to get it rotating in the proper direction again. It would be nice if this explanation applied; it would make more sense. But the bit that I just mentioned ruins it.

regarding Gandlf and the Eagles: Gandalf saved the king of the Eagles, Gwahir, from danger some years prior to the events of the Hobbit and Gwahir granted him 3 boons. Gandalf could call on him and the eagles for favors 3 times. He does this to save the Dwarves in the hobbit, to escape Saruman, and to rescue Frodo and Sam. Also note that it is stated in the movie and in the books that the only way the quest to destroy the ring is to take it by stealth. Sauron has no conception that someone would even attempt to destroy the ring. Gandalf wanted to keep it this way. Otherwise, Sauron would have gathered his armies around Mt. Doom and waited. Not even the Eagles could have penetrated into Mordor under those conditions.

The reason why Harry doesn't use a time turner to go back in time and change the past is that the movie explicitly shows that you can't change the past with a time turner.

Which does raise the other plot hole of the trio reacting to Buckbeak's very clearly implied execution in the audience's first viewing of events. This is reinforced by Dumbledore later saying of the time turner that more than 1 life may be spared referring to Buckbeak, which clearly indicates Buckbeak was killed. I assume it's a movie exclusive plot hole, but Dumbeldore's remark in particular just cannot be excused away.

@@jaeusa160 watch the film. In the first run through. From the kid's perspective, Buckbeak is concealed by the trees. They see the executioner walk towards where Buckbeak was chained up, raise his axe and bring it down accompanied by a chopping sound. When you see the same scene from the perspective of future Harry and Hermione, the executioner walks towards where Buckbeak was chained up and chops a pumpkin in half. Definitely not a plothole. Anything Dumbledore says to the contrary is clearly to avoid giving the kids knowledge of what is to come. He knows what is happening at the time as he distracts the minister and executioner, giving the kids time to save Buckbeak.

@@MasterCleife The way it was shot made it clear they saw it. Their view was not so obstructed that they could miss something the size of a horse, or its absence. Likewise the Dumbledore issue. If he perceived they were using the time turner to begin with, he wouldn't need to act like Buckbeak died to encourage them to do something he already knows that they did. The movie is shot in a way such that an event was changed. This was done to make it all more dramatic, but it does also create this plot hole, as plot devices are wont to do.

The whole point of the Lord of the Rings is that Sauron can't be defeated easily. Many other powerful creatures tried before. That's why the hobbits are important. They can sneak in and destroy the ring. The whole idea of the books is that "small people" and the fellowship of different races helping each other are ultimately the greater power against evil. That's exactly what makes the story great. It is not a hero story. The conventional "hero" Aragorn bows down to the hobbits at the end.

I agree, except I would say it is a hero story, just that the point is that all heroes aren't always the most obvious ones, and that there are many ways to be a hero. Aragorn is one hero in the Tolkien universe, but the main heroes of LotR are the hobbits, particularly Frodo and Sam.

But it's not true. In the movie, Superman orbits super fast until the Earth appears to be rotating backwards, but then he reverses direction to make it start spinning forward again. Why would he need to do that if it was just a shot of him taking himself back in time?
@pbell0000
@pbell0000 2 жыл бұрын
@@4891MR yep that’s true. He would just need to stop flying that fast and then he’d rejoins normally moving time. The whole breaking the speed of light is supposedly impossible as well, Superman would need to overcome infinite mass somehow.
@Sevicify
@Sevicify 2 жыл бұрын
If anything the Earth rotating backwards makes even less sense, you don't travel back in time by simply moving fast. Time is relative to speed, the faster you move the slower time will be within your reference frame compared to someone moving slower but you only ever move forward in time. This time dilation is calculated at about 10x at 99.5% speed of light, this means that for every minute at that speed 10 minutes will pass on Earth. This time dilation exponentially increases towards the closer your get to the speed of light such as 1000x at 99.99995% or 22369621x at 99.9999999999999%, at the speed of light however you don't perceive any passage of time and from your perspective your trip will be instantaneous. So assuming Superman was travelling at the speed of light, which would require infinite energy, he would only be moving forward in time and from his perspective no time will have passed. The issue here is we see him moving in the close up shots indicating passage of time for him, this means he isn't travelling at the speed of light. You could argue he is travelling faster than light allowing him to break some time space laws to travel back in time, the issue with this however is no indication of such speeds at all where we should be seeing energy all around him in the close up shots but instead we see space with the Earth whoosing past fast below him. And there's the whole part where he started flying in the opposite direction which makes the Earth's reverse rotation gradually come to a stop and spin back up to normal, this part only makes sense if he is physically changing the Earth's rotation. I've also had a look for Richard Donner's explanation noted in this video but couldn't find anything of it, instead I found the Blu-Ray commentary where he explicitly states "And he stops the world. And now it's actually going backwards. Which means, none of this actually happens." which adds further credence to the notion that their idea was he was physically changing the rotation. So no matter how you slice it the scene doesn't make sense, you can head canon that he was going FTL but it doesn't really line up with the visuals we see.
@pbell0000
@pbell0000 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sevicify Agreed, keep in mind this movie was filmed in what, 1979, realism in fiction movies wasn't really a big consideration! Although, I think they did a better job in this movie than most for the time. Yeah, I was going to mention going FTL could get you going backwards in time from what I remember. You mentioned that too. Of course how superman is able to break the laws of physics, not sure! I remember it being something about particles on the event horizon of a black hole violating the uncertainity principle, therefore, backwards time travel of the particle is possible, something like that from Hawkins book. (I read it like 20 years ago, so don't quote me!) Maybe superman is breaking the uncertainity principle by going too fast, God gets mad, and makes him go back in time as punishment, because Lois Lane was really a pain in the a** anyway.

Actually, there is an explanation for it and it ties into the series’ overarching theme of destiny. That second arm was recovered by Cyberdyne and allowed them to continue work on Skynet. When they said Judgement Day was inevitable in T3, it’s because time is set in stone. Attempts to change the past are only temporary and the universe will eventually return itself to the same path. Destroying the original arm postponed Judgement Day, but the second arm was the universe’s way of ensuring it would still happen. The destiny theme is actually present in all the movies if you look closely. T1 - Skynet sends the terminator to remove Connor as a threat, ends up creating the circumstances that led to him becoming a threat. T2 - John and Sarah attempt to stop Judgement Day by destroying the arm and chip but accidentally leave another arm that ensures Judgement Day will continue. T3 - John attempts to destroy Skynet, ends up inside a military bunker that allows him to survive Judgement Day T Salvation - Sends a cyborg to kill John, cyborg defects and gives John his heart so he could survive a fatal injury.

And yes stopping would negate that effect.But the direction he flies in irrelevant as long as breaks the speed of light Although this ignores that it would take an infinite amount of energy to get him to the full speed of light let alone beyond, and that his mass would increase as he reached the speed of light thereby turning himself into a black hole which would cause way Way WAY more destruction that Luther's missiles!!!

One thing that always bugged me, though its not a plot hole or thought of as one, is that people say that Star Wars made a scientific error when Han says "It's the ship that did the Kessel run in less than 12 Parsecs". People rightfully point out that a Passed is a measure of distance and not time. However, they assume Han is saying this thinking its a measure of time. He's not, Kessel is a system which has an extremely strong gravity well inside it called the Maw Cluster. By flying as close as possible to the maw, you shave actual distance off your trip. So Han isn't bragging that the Falcon is just fast, he's saying its fast and durable enough to cut I closer than any other ship. The Han Solo movie " solved" this problem, but it was part of canon before in what is now the "legends canon" Tell you I'm a nerd without telling you I'm a nerd.

The Eagles thing in LOTR is even more simple than that. See those dragon things that the Ringwraiths are flying on? They are Fellbeasts & there are also Drakes, (their slightly less powerful cousins that plague Mordor), and they all EAT eagles. The ring would have gone straight back to Sauron & the Eagles would be dead & Fellbeast / Drake food. Also, 2 hobbits on foot are stealthy & do not attract the great eye's attention. A bunch of Eagles flying over most certainly would.
@PineconeSunset
@PineconeSunset 2 жыл бұрын
That and the Eagles could probably be corrupted by the ring too. So the ring would never get near Mordor and we'd end up with bird Sméagol. Hobbits were chosen because they were one of the most resilient races to the ring's power also, because of their simple lifestyle which the ring had more trouble corrupting than say greedy men or treasure hungry dwarves.

I hate to nitpick, but the ring DID corrupt Bilbo. It just had taken a much longer time than any other bearer previously, and it was only in the beginning stages at the time of LotR. So, Bilbo was extraordinary in his resistance to the darker powers of the ring, but he wasn't immune. The only being shown in the story (and only the written version) to be immune is Tom Bombadil. And that's heavily implied to be the case only because Tom is a nature spirit whose very existence is tied to the small area of land he inhabits. And just in case someone says, "Well, that's a plot hole in itself! Why didn't Tom just save the day then?": Tom has God-like powers already that are greater than even Sauron, BUT only as long as he stays within the boundary of his land. Which is quite small and otherwise pretty unimportant (it's a lovely patch of land, but not much there that would effect the world, except for the ancient Barrows where Tom finds the Barrow Blades. Which is very helpful for the Fellowship, but hardly enough by themselves to stop all the evil going on). If Tom were to leave, he would definitely lose his powers, and might even cease to exist. So, possession of the ring is an all-lose situation for him. It would literally be his end, but and for a set of powers lesser than his own. He has no reason to want the ring, because he has nothing to gain and everything to lose by taking it. So the ring has zero effect on Tom. This is also why he doesn't factor much into the War of the Ring. He can't help unless it involves him staying in his small area of influence. This is also why Sauron doesn't GAF about Tom. He isn't a threat unless Sauron felt he really needed the few miles of meadow, groves, and streams Tom rules over. So Tom helps by putting the hobbits up for a few days, giving them a little respite, some advice, and some ancient weapons that can hurt the wraiths a little. But that's it. I know I went on, but I've seen people whine about this "plot hole" and it really bugs me.

I also point out with the eagles in LOTR that Sauron has those dragon things the Ringwraiths ride. Sauron is a big eye atop a citadel. He can see a bunch of eagles coming, people riding on them and sense they possess the One Ring. What happens when the dragons attack the eagles and the people fall off? They fall thousands of feet to their deaths.

Human physics wouldn’t apply to a Kryptonian, IMO. I also believe that is why they emphasized the fact Superman was rotating against the Earth’s natural rotation. If he was going with the rotation, most people would figure he is traveling forward in time. That’s the best explanation I can muster, but honestly if you know about Superman’s comic history, they give him “super” any and everything if the situation calls for it! Super dancing? Being able to throw a plastic/rubber S logo from his chest logo and have it enlarge as it travels towards its target and snare him, net style. That’s why, though I love more than a few Superman stories, he doesn’t even crack my top 30 favorite comic book characters. I find him kind of cheesy and dated, though I do feel that MAN OF STEEL is one of the best DCEU flicks so far, along with SHAZAM, ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, and WONDER WOMAN. THE BATMAN, if it covers the stories I think they are, will be added to that BEST OF list. 🤘🏼

IN the Novel version of Jurassic Park, it is explained that The Lysine contingency, designed as a fail-safe for escaped dinosaurs, does not work. The animal found on the main land and on Isla Sorna have changed their diet to include lysine rich foods such as chicken, and after one or two generations even this is not necessary as the genetic interference is bred out. It is therefore likely the Pterosaurs have survived and are nesting somewhere with easy availability of Lysine, such as puffin cliffs.
@rogershore7189
@rogershore7189 2 жыл бұрын
Plus animals can’t create lysine anyway, so need to consume it from external sources (plants and fruits rich in lysine, or animals which have a diet consisting of said plants and fruits). Also factor in that pterosaurs are believed to have had a diet which consisted largely of fish (which is high in lysine) and the survival of the pterosaurs is practically a given.

@justinratcliffe947

There exists some possibilities 1.Skynet probably didn't feel it was necessary and that a T800 was enough. And it almost was. It would've succeeded if not for Kyle Reese 2.Its possible the T1000 didn't exist in the original timeline and was a product of altered timeline tech 3.Skynet doesn't fully trust the T1000 and only sent it back in T2 to kill John as a last resort. The T1000 is shown to possess some intelligence that T800s and other terminators badly lack. Even Skynet is somewhat fearful of the T1000 and there even exists a video here on KZfaq on the matter called "The Terminator that even Skynet is afraid of" or something like that. @CamaroAmx

It’s explained that Skynet was on the verge of destruction in T1. It sent back the terminator as a last resort. It was a multi pronged attack. Send back multiple terminators to different points in time to kill John and Sara. But it was limited on when to send them back because not only were many records lost during the war but Sara and John lived off the grid for years at a time. That made hard to forgive out where they were, so they sent the terminators to time periods when they knew of Sara and John’s location. It worked to a point with Skynet having a different origin and altering the timeline. So it was able to sent back anther terminator to kill John when he was a bit older, knowing that the first terminator failed but not knowing why. They sent it at a different time because they knew Reese wasn’t there to protect Sara and John. They repeated this in T3. In all cases the humans were able to send someone or something back to protect them. However each time altered the timeline and Skynet’s origins and it’s history. So it was able to send back more and more advanced terminators. For all we know the sending back of all the terminators could of happened in minutes.

The Superman one still does not work because traveling at or near the speed of light does not allow one to reverse the arrow of time it just makes one seem to experience time at a slower rate relative to people who are traveling slower. For instance, a parent could hop on a spaceship and fly around really fast then return and be the same age as their kid, or younger even, but no amount of speed, at least according to the theory of general relativity, would allow someone to go back in time. Just one problem with it: When Supes slows down at the end of the clip shown here, the earth continues to spin backwards instead of immedaitely spinning forwards again. Not only that, but if you watch the _full_ scene, he then turns around and circles the earth in the other direction, slowly making it spin forward again! (the clip shown here only hints at that, it is deliberately cut short to fit the explanation) That's why people interpret it like he physically spun it around, because it was portrayed as such. Regardless of the writers'/producers' intent or explanations after the fact.

The quest to destroy the One Ring was meant to be a stealth mission. Flying in the sky on a flock of giant eagles isn't exactly stealthy.

Why didn't the Eagles fly the ring to Mount Doom? Could have had something to do with the massive eye next to mount doom. It might have noticed a big bird flying towards it carrying the one thing that it was looking for more than anything else.

That answer about the eagles is simply wrong. Gandalf is not prone to corruption in general. It is the RING that would corrupt him, not any semblance of power. Riding an eagle doesn't turn Gandalf evil.

Funny how the NOT plot hole from Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope isn't on this list. The one Disney decided they need a whole movie to explain away.

Between the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings movies so much was taken out and added that in order to answer any questions concerning the movies it's best just to read the books. Also helps to read the Similarion. Harry did get his hands on a more powerful time turner in the cursed child.

I have a potential plot hole that isn't one, but is a little complicated to understand: in mib 3 I always thought why didn't J just time traveled 20 minutes before Boris the animal did instead of traveling to the 60's? I mean, he knew where Boris did the time jump, exactly in the same place he did; but if you think about J really couldn't do that. J remembers K only because he was there in the 60's with him, so if he jumped and killed Boris before the two of them were in the 60's, a time paradox would have happened, that could potentially destroy the time line or something like that.

As for Cipher, while this secret program thingimajig explains how Cipher didn't need an operator to let him in, for one, that's not how big systems of computers work (i.e.: connecting the agents to it would have to mean it's connected to the larger Matrix itself through some data stream that allows them to access it and talk to him) but the bigger flaw this does not address is the plug itself. The chairs are designed in a way that you can't reach the plug by yourself and push it into the back of your head, you need assistance. So how did Cipher press that thing into his head and crucially, how was he not noticed by the others as he was just chilling on one of the plug-in-beds without any operators in sight. This way, it's less that Cipher accessing the Matrix on his own is impossible, but rather, either hacking the heroes's main computer is ridiculously easy, which puts into question how the machines have not caught them or they haven't upgraded it yet, or they are a bunch of idiots who don't notice a clear traitor the moment they see him doing things that are absolutely not explainable via normal means. A much more reasonable explanation would be to say that Cipher is not jacking in but making a simulation of his own form through the programs he has and communicates with Agent Smith through that. That still doesn't explain why this supposed 'copy' would act so humanlike, but it's better to say this is what's happening at the point when Neo moves over to him and he acts jumpy, rather than suggesting that the rest of the crew are a bunch of drooling idiots who don't notice one guy coming and going in and out of the plug-ins and don't even question how and what he is doing. It's just the cherry on top of this sh@tcake that this information was not included in the finished film, so this does not diminish the plothole as the audience has no access to this piece of info to solve the confusion. It still sticks dirt under the story's gears and that's what's important here.

Again... Has no one ever heard of this thing we have in teh real world called "Hacking"? He did not actually physically put himself back into the Matrix... He simply hacked the Systems - Morpheus and the Crew for their Training etc... Use and "Offline version" of the Matrix - Clearly Cipher was hacking into the "Online Matrix" and created his Avatar to communicate with the Agents in their world without having to rely on actually physically being there! In fact, if you listen to his Dialogue He does hint that he is NOT Plugged in... As he asks to be reconnected! So there is a hint that he is NOT actually connected to the Matrix, He has Hacked a Backdoor in! Which then explains why no one saw him Jacking Himself - He never did! Of course this is me speculating... I don't know what the Directors were thinking - But when I watch Movies, I do look to reality to try and explain things that don't seem to have any logic to them in case there is a possible real world explanation - Hacking is a possible real world explanation! I mean, When you play a Console or PC game... Are you actually in teh game? NO, Of course not... You control and Avatar! That appears to be what Cipher did!

@@Phoenix2312 Quit the condescension will you? Just love it when someone asks a question and here you are "Are you in teh gaem?? Nooo." Except he's not saying that. He's talking about being reconnected to the main Matrix and being given wealth and power. His 'avatar' also acts very humanlike, eating steak and referring to what it tastes like. So I call bullshit on what you said.

There's a much simpler, BETTER explanation for why Gandalf doesn't just use the Eagles. The Ring is sent into Mordor under Sauron's nose, in the hands of an easily-overlooked Hobbit. The plan is a complete success - Sauron doesn't realise where the Ring actually is until it's far too late. If Gandalf had sent the Ring into Mordor on the back of a giant Eagle, the Eye would have noticed, and the Ring potentially lost, falling back into Sauron's hands. If you want to be sneaky, you don't send a giant bird.
