The guy should've gotten blacklisted because he was at LEAST half in the bag when performing. It's the hand of God that he never seriously hurt or killed someone. I used to think Paul Heyman was a misunderstood genius. Now, I think he's just plain irresponsible.

Fun fact == George "The Animal" Steele used to drink occasionally before a match....to mask the smell on his breath he would use Clorets ....which turned his tongue green...Fans noticed the green tongue and pointed it out....Which became part of his gimmick from then on....

I remember being a kid in the late 70s and seeing Jake Roberts on Champion Wrestling from Florida. He was so drunk he actually fell off the top rope and even out of the ring a couple times. Poor ole Gordon Solie tried his best to cover for him but it was obvious even to 9 year old.

As a friend of Hak aka Sandman, I can tell you he was drunk throughout his ECW career, he wasn’t playing any gimmick and everyone would tell you they would rather work him drunk than sober anyday because he’d injure you when trying to work sober.

My dad was on the Detroit Police Department in the late 60's when a call for assistance came over the radio, Andre the giant was in a bar after a wrestling match with some friends. He had a bit much to drink and a brawl broke out with him and some fans. Story goes that he floored quite a few people including some of the cops and bouncers that were trying to restore order. His buds calmed him down and he went quietly once he realized what he did, he even apologized for his behavior once he sobered up.

A friend of mine knows a guy who claims his dad use to be on the ring crew in ECW back in the day. Supposedly, this guy was backstage at a show one time and ran across Sandman doing blow, and Sandman offered him some. This guy was 10 at the time.

Andre rarely got drunk, look at the size of that motherfucker. He drank like 3 bottles of cheap Mexican tequila and 23 street tacos before a match with Bad News Allen (Brown) in Mexico circa 1992 and all he got was a bad case of diarrhea, and he did a sit-down splash on Allen and well, it was a "shitty" situation, let's just say.

Don't excuse a potentially disastrous situation. If he was in THAT much pain, he should've forfeited, not maybe injure someone else because he was drunk. I sympathize w/wrestlers. It's a physical grind regarding folks to perform pretty much year-round. And I come from a genetic & conditioned line of alcoholics. I even have a weakness for opioids because of all the wonderful hospital stays/surgeries I've endured. But the only risk involved is mine. I don't drive, go on ladders, or anything else that could put someone at risk. And I'm just a Joe Blow! I keep THAT much in my head. Can promoters & wrestlers who act irresponsibily say the same?

You might want to change the title 10 Wrestlers Who Were Under the Influence given that you have Jeff Hardy (under the influence of drugs), Michaels, and Sandman (who was notorious for being under the influence of drugs and alcohol to the point he was so high in a lady match, he almost died in the ring but was resuscitated and finished the match)....
