On may 6th 2013, Charles Ramsey and a handful of Cleveland citizens would end up discovering and rescuing 3 girls whom had been kidnapped for nearly 10 years. Charles Ramsey would go onto a deliver an interview which would be turned into a songified remix by schmoyoho. This song "Dead Giveaway" would go insanely viral making Charles Ramsey a living meme overnight. Shortly after the rescue happened, news about Ramsey slowed down and we stopped hearing about him. In this video, we go into the full story and answer the question, "Whatever Happened to Charles Ramsey?"

I'm a sound tech in the Cleveland area. While I've never met Charles, I have seen him at events, one of which was a fundraiser for kids at the Hard Rock Casino's Hard Rock Live (now MGM, or so I'm told) in Fairview. Basically, apart from trying to live a quiet life, he occasionally comes out to lend his name to causes like this, which is admirable. Near as I can tell, the guy's a genuine dude, and just wants to help others.

Charles Ramsey is a damn hero, and a hell of a guy who never wanted anything other than to help Amanda Barry. I've watched pretty much every interview he gave and I think his character comes through quite clearly. After his initial interview, when the story blew up and he was being interviewed on news channels, he looks exhausted with bags under his eyes and it's pretty obvious he's not exactly enjoying the media circus. He keeps his answers brief and repeatedly states that he's not really a hero and doesn't want thanks because he only did what anyone in that situation should have done. (On that note, I have to admit how hard I personally find it to put myself in that situation, because it's so easy to want to stay out of other people's business and not potentially put yourself in harm's way. I'd like to think that I'd do what he did, but I can't say that with any certainty without actually having been there, and I think a lot of people wouldn't, which is why it's such a great thing that he did what he did. It takes a lot of courage.) I've heard about the neighbor, one in particular who was trying to take credit for what Ramsey did. As far as I can tell, this person's story is not credible, and while he may have been present to the scene, he did nothing but observe what happened before trying to take credit after this all blew up. Think about that for a second, you have one man who says he rescued a girl and doesn't want to be lauded as a hero, and another man whose intervention is questionable who is trying to convince others that Ramsey is a fraud and that HE was actually the one who saved Amanda Barry and her child. And Amanda Barry herself, after all these years, has never once said anything that contradicted Ramsey's claims. (Neighbor is a scumbag.) Even in the later interview with the reporter that interviewed him, Ramsey said that "we" made people laugh. He talked quite a bit about the situation and how the reporter responded to him and his role in the whole thing going viral. He never took sole credit for that interview, even though it was 90% him. I'm not saying the dude is perfect, he's just a regular guy with flaws like the rest of us. And I can't imagine what it's like going out and constantly being recognized and having people come up to you. I know some people can handle that, but not me. Charles doesn't seem to like the attention and I don't blame him. Charles Ramsey is a pretty decent dude who did a pretty amazing thing, and that's really all that matters. I hope he's doing well. Also, why the heck does your lava lamp look crooked? It's driving me nuts.
@rars0n
@rars0n 6 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I forgot to talk about McDonald's. According to Charles, they did give him a free year of food, I guess in the form of some kind of coupons or something, which he decided to give to homeless people. After McDonald's found out he was giving them away, they stopped giving them to him. I don't think Charles has any reason to make this up.

I couldn't believe all them butt hurt neighbors got mad just because they didn't get no fame. If they DID help her too, it's like, is THAT why you helped someone calling for help? Because you wanted to get famous? That was your primary reason? Apparently so. Fuck, here I thought you're supposed to do the right thing because it's the right thing to do. Even if dude was ONE of the people who helped but got ALL the fame? So what? Someone once told me "A closed mouth don't eat", they didn't open their mouths, they just wanted to sit back and have fame just knock on their door land on their laps. Getting forced out of his neighborhood was actually a good thing if you ask me.

other people have mentioned in the comments that even Charles said there were others who helped in the rescue too. he never took full claim of the girl's rescue. personally, i think its shameful that those other people who wanted to be noticed so bad for helping him help the girls should really think about what theyre asking for. just because we do good things doesnt mean we need to have good things as payment, or even recognition. they want to be noticed for being good so bad, Charles was so chill about his interviews and took the opportunities because he knew he had people looking up to him in the moment. hes a normal guy who took the fame as it came and didnt push to have more of it. the others were too jealous to be happy with themselves for the good they had done.

I actually disagree with you... I don't think it's disgusting at all. But decent human being probably would have said that it was a group effort. You know, like a firefighter? Or a police officer? Unless it was really really just you, not one person usually takes the wrap for everything. So to call other people disgusting because they were appalled by his behavior is actually pretty deplorable of you.

I love this dude with all my heart and I'm so mad that people keep pestering him. You could tell he didn't want any of the fame. He's still humble about the whole thing. I watched his reunion with Amanda Berry and he's just the most genuinely good person. He still cares about her and reassured her that it wasn't her fault that she couldn't escape when she doubted herself. Even though he's not perfect (who is, anyways? I once sent an email threatening to kill myself if my teacher doesn't change my grade.), I believe he's trying to do good. And from the way he rescued those girls, the way he comforted Amanda and just makes everyone around him smile, I'd say he succeeded.
