To follow up on some of the points in the video:
Naltrexone isn't something that people should take as if it were another supplement to add to their cupboard. If this sounds like something you might be able to benefit from, I encourage you to do your research before taking any action - look into possible side effects, make sure you understand precisely when you're supposed to take this, what is an appropriate dose for you and so on. Again, I'm not a doctor - this video is meant to inform, not to make medical recommendations. Some things to keep in mind while reading about this:
-The Sinclair Method, stated simply is this: Take 50mg of Naltrexone 1 hour before drinking. Do not take it when you are not drinking. Try to avoid doing naturally rewarding things while the medication is still in your system. Remember, other activities like exercise, hugging people, and eating food are felt to be pleasurable and are reinforced through the opioid system.
Some of Naltrexone's potential for other addictions (food, gambling, opiates) is discussed in the Roy Eskapa book.
★"Low Dose Naltrexone," the administration of from 1.5mg to 5mg (one tenth of the Sinclair method dosing), has shown promise for conditions like Crohn's disease and multiple sclerosis and works through different mechanisms having a different spectrum of physiological effects. This video doesn't comment on this approach. On that note, I'm not sure what dosing the implant mentioned around 5:30 was delivering and didn't mean to say Low Dose Naltrexone is not effective.

Hey everyone, Let me reiterate that I'm not trying to say that everyone should just go on line and stock your pantry with Naltrexone as if it were a turmeric supplement or something. Can you just go and buy this in the US like that? Here in Germany it's only with prescription and doctors here (at least the serious ones) are very alarmed and skeptical if you ask for a certain drug without having akute symptoms. Of course some will listen to you and agree but it still will raise lots of eyebrows, and probably they will want to force their own method onto you. Which is kind of reasonable since they didn't spend +6 years at the university for nothing.

It worked for me. I bought an off brand naltrexone, and used the Sinclair method. After almost twenty years of drinking alcohol it cured my alcoholism. I still consider myself an alcoholic, but the urges are virtually gone. On the rare occasion I do get the urge I will either drink some alcohol, or just eat some food. I haven't been drunk in over 4 years. Thank you Naltrexone, and the Sinclair method.

I have been taking Naltrexone with alcohol now for 20 days. I'm down from 12-15 drinks per day to less than 2. I'm also only interested in one particular drink (Twisted Tea) instead of my lengthy list of go-to beverages (Beer, Wine, Vodka Soda, Gin Tonic, Margarita, Jameson, etc). At my worst I was consuming almost 500 drinks per month, I was able to cut that in half over a few years and now with Naltrexone I hope to be down to zero...

Fast for 48-72 hours, keep up your electrolytes with Potassium Chloride and Sodium Chloride. I use pink salt and a potassium chloride powder(you can use cream of tartar if desperate) After the 48 hours you will find cravings for sugar will be greatly decreased. I had some chocolates gifted to me over the christmas period in my freezer, when I saw them I felt nothing, it was like I was looking at little pellets of cardboard, they did nothing for me. I ended up just throwing them out. I broke my fast with some grass fed ribs cooked in bone broth and it was spectacular.

A lifelong alcoholic, I always thought that AA was the only way to get sober. I was in and out of those rooms for decades and still getting drunk ... REALLY drunk, every day. About 6 years ago I came across Claudia Christian's video and decided to try Naltrexone. I have no idea why it worked so quickly on me but it worked the first time I took it. My glass of wine was still sitting on the kitchen counter, full but for one sip, the next morning. I haven't had a drink since nor do I have any cravings. The Sinclair Method saved my life.

I am very glad you posted this. I am a Vet with PTSD who self medicates with Alcohol as the VA is extreemly against giving GABA agaonists for treatment (coincidentally the only thing theat seems to help 80% of PTSD cases). So that leaves the one no prescription one Alcohol which of course is murder for your liver. Thing is For therepudic effect I could use much less, but that drink more hook Alcohol has built in makes this verry difficult to not over do it. This med might be just what I need to drink just enough to settle my nerves without keeping going and drinking to much. An Ideal solution no, but the best I can do in a world where prescription vallium has street value.Thanks again I will find a way if the VA does not consider this treatment.They likely don't if it is new but they aught to since pretty much all combat vets drink more than they should, usually by a whole lot.

8 years I've been dry. the first 9 months I attended AA meetings, pretty soon i realised i was fed up with people winging about not having a beer that I felt like standing up in anger and shouting "Go have a F'ing beer then!" - I stopped going to AA meetings. The others that upset me had swapped their addiction to booze to god or meetings, or coffee. I cut myself off. I returned to the pub and drank only Coke or orange juice or coffee. I figured if I could see that through nothing would tempt me or sway me. I succeeded. I then had to cut myself off from the pub and the drinkers there. I stopped smoking weed about then too. I had been using weed to soften the blow of the absence of booze. Some might say, they have a point to some extent, that my new hobby of walking was releasing endorphins, but it's tenuous - I was not really an enthusiastic sports person since my youth; 20 years earlier I had cycled the UK long route from John O 'Groats in the North to Land's end at the Southern most tip of the mainland of England. I followed that up with a tour of the entire coastline of the UK on a bike. since then i had run to get to the pub in time for opening, that was it. Now I was waking at 5 and leaving home at six with a bottle of water and a flask of coffee or tea and walking 6 miles a day. Then i got a new bike. I got some stuff together and cycled over 70 miles to a beauty spot and 70 miles back, showered and went to bed. I'm still doing that kind of thing. Now I've added wild camping to my list. I'm still dry and clean and i don't miss the booze or the weed or the coke or the whatever, I don't even miss the red meat now after two years or the cigarettes after 4 years. One day at a time, until all is forgotten and you just are a new person.

I've been 6months sober and basically what I did was, that I had some antibiotics prescribed that had the antabus effect. After two weeks since the antibiotics stopped, i apparently still had the antabus effect in me, so I drank three pints and had the worst hangover ever and made myself believe that after that point, alcohol would make me sick. At first it was difficult but since then it has become easier and easier and I'm glad I quit drinking.

See, the thing about forgetting to want is that that's something I struggle with on a daily basis due to a severe case of generalized anxiety. I forget and have no interest in eating. I stopped smoking cause I got bored of it, and just haven't drank. Not cause I didn't want to, but because my mind has been too busy at any given point to allow me to. It's kinda like I've been given a clean slate, albeit through massive amounts of mental suffering. Trying to make the best of it.

So when the alcoholic takes the pill and doesn't get the sensation expected from alcohol, what's their incentive to take the pill the next time they drink? That's the the major drawback to voluntary oral naltrexone therapy, patient compliance.
@markuslarsson81
@markuslarsson81 5 жыл бұрын
Obviously the patient has to want to stop drinking but I think it's rare for addicts to really want to continue with their addiction. The problem is the cravings that consumes an addicts thoughts to the point where they continue anyway despite knowing that they should stop. They are not robots with no will, therefore no cravings equals the will to stop.

Carl Vandenberg You do it for yourself. People who have an alcohol use disorder are usually very compliant. And you still get drunk by the way. It works much more subtle on a physiological level. That’s why it can take so long.

I think at some point we want the pill and want to stop drinking, I am drinking right now and want to get my hand on this pill I'd live a longer healthy life. its a matter of wanting help. if your not ready or don't want it then that's your life. but i don't really get addicted to things easily just beer and video games. so I guess again how could I know. back to square 1.

Just to clarify I am speaking as a recovered alcoholic, so I do understand the alcoholic mind. It took me many years (decades) to finally let go of the idea that I would ever be able to drink in moderation. The delusion that I would some day be able to drink like a normal person almost killed me in the end. Having said that, if naltrexone can prevent someone from reaching the point I did then that's great.

In combination with working on your cognitive bias (subconscious craves alcohol/conscious doesn’t want to drink (that much)) through e.g. the Annie Grace 30 Day Experiment (after being able to have consecutive alcohol free days) with great daily psychological video material, it is IMO the only way. I agree and this attitude can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, but it seems like it would be a bit difficult to study its affects scientifically. I've been trying to quit smoking. I was talking to someone at work about it and how I was trying "the patch" and someone else, overhearing the conversation, interjected with "just quit, it's all in your head." I just played agreeable, as it's not worth arguing with certain people who accept nothing as nuanced. While I agree that it's "all in your head." Reality, as you know it, is all in your head, but what's in your head is best understood with the lens of biology and chemistry (a circle, as space stuff makes a feeble attempt at understanding itself). Ideas alone, don't make one a monk or a genius. There's hardware there, and it needs to be up the task. Based on my experiences with attempting to quit "cold turkey," I don't think the hardware in the cranium, indirectly attached to fingers typing this message, is up to the task of quitting cold turkey in the way others have managed to. You said: "If you train your mind you can have more control of it and cancel out any cravings you have." Breaking it down If *you* train *your mind you* can have more *control* of *it* and cancel out any Cravings *you* have. *You* : a mind *Mind* : you *Control* : Illusion of influence *It* : Referring to previously said mind If a mind trains a mind, a mind possessed by a mind can have more of an illusion of influence over a mind and cancel out any cravings a mind has. It sounds like nonsense because I've twisted your words to fit one of my worldviews. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The illusion of influence is necessary and I've run out of time to make any sense.

@@nodriveknowitall702 I would say identification with mind is quite outdated concept . You're made out of 50 trillion cells , your mind is the government but you, you're a rank higher the one playing the game from birdview perspective, mind is just a tool and if you're identified with it you're limited to using that tool poorly and being the one at the effect not the cause.

@@arete7884 You say I am made out of 50 trillion cells but then say I am not those cells, but something beyond them. We disagree here. I do somewhat agree with the second point you made. I have never tasted alcohol but I started Keto in April and struggled with my cravings for carbs and this fits. I used a twelve step tool and surrendered my desire for beans, rice and and popcorn (especially popcorn) to my higher power. The last time I ate popcorn I was really angry and I never felt the satisfaction that I was used to feeling when I ate it and I have not eaten it since. For most of my other cravings I have been able to find a satisfying option in the keto menu but I have not found an adequate replacement for popcorn. I just don't eat it anymore. I miss the satisfaction of the experience of popcorn but I am strong enough in my resolve to not eat it anymore that I don't buy it or eat it.
