As an alcoholic … I’m 62 - I’ve been drinking hard for 45 years. I’m a liver transplant recipient, Still with cravings. You’d think. My Dr. Prescribed me Naltrexone today. Can’t wait to start. There’s no way I can go back to my old destructive routine , and further , to the donor : God Bless him. 👍🏼

This is my third week on 50mg morning on this meds. Change my life. I’m 35 I’ve been drinking since 13. Whit this pills I don’t want to drink, it’s just like forget about it. I wish I could get prescription of this long ago… highly recommended

Thankfully I was only an alcoholic for 2 years before I found this pill. I fell on some hard times and got caught in a loop where I was drinking half a bottle of whiskey every night for 2 years. I had tried everything on my own but always went right back to it. Less than one week on this pill and I was able to slow it down to once a week then almost a full stop. It's like fucking magic man. This pill could save so many people.

I just got my 50mg Naltrexone implant yesterday!!! Do u have any issue sleeping? I'm struggling with not being able to sleep well. Do you take 50mg a day?

I've been using 50mg Naltrexone tablets one hour before drinking for just over a month. I was a 6 to 12 drink a night drinker (1.5 oz hard liquor per drink or 5 oz wine per drink). I am now a 2 to 4 drink per night drinker...with no real desire to go beyond 4 drinks!! 3 drinks a night is becoming my "new normal". Drinking on Naltrexone is kind of like eating food without seasoning. Not a great analogy as we don't need alcohol to survive but the analogy works for me. I still like to drink but it's becoming less and less "necessary" It's 845 pm and I finished #3 about 45 mins ago with no desire for #4...so thought I'd give my testimony. I highly recommend giving it a try.

would be nice if the govt forced manufactures of alcohol to introduce this drug in their alcohol,they seem more concerned with the health concerns of tobacco but we all know alcohol is more deadly to society and the user on many occasions

This is so fascinating to me. When I'm on that drug I don't want any alcohol at all. Literally I would throw the liqour in your face before I drank it while on naltrexone

omg, same here. I feel fantastic and alive at 2 a.m., but I know I have to work in the morning, and that's the worst part by far. No real hangover, just a feel of dread and depression when I wake up. I started Naltrexone two months ago, and so far so good. I'm single living in the city (Boston) and I was always planning "where will be my first bar after work?". It sure seems like it's working. Just to have the cravings lowered is a HUGE win.

I can't wait for my prescription to be filled and this madness to end. I want more for my life. I'm almost 25 and I know that around 25 is when you become the person you are going to be for the rest of your life. I don't want to be an addict for the rest of my life.

I was stuck in the spiral of alcoholism until I was 27. Sober four years at this point… and let me tell you, your life definitely will not stay the same as it is at 25 😂 Maybe your frontal lobe will be fully developed.. but you’ll be okay. Try not to stress so much (not that I can talk 😂)

I'm turning 25 in May.. I was scared I'm too young to be on this medicine, but thank you so much for your story! :) been drinking since I was 16 and always had a problem. My last ex got me to stop drinking in 2022, but now since we broke up sh*t hit the fan and well, here we are :/

@@mattuwu42 you're not too young, it doesn't affect your brain's development. For me, it really helps with cravings after you detox. The rest is up to you. The choice to drink is always yours. I'm a "functioning" alcoholic of 30+ years so I know a little. About 6 months ago I went overboard drinking 24-7 which was possible because I work from home everyday. Eventually, i did a rapid detox, got a naltrexone implant which lasts for about 2 months and then a shot which lasts about 1 month.

@Roy Harper thank you! I really appreciate the response :) I don't want to progress this illness more than it needs to, and I'm really scared of it. I'm in therapy, called SAMHSA, but I don't have the self-control I wish I had. I'll talk to my psychiatrist about this soon. Thanks again ❤️

I’m over a year sober, but before I got sober I drank on Naltrexone, and it basically just feels boring and anticlimactic. And from talking with non-alcoholics it seems like that’s what drinking feels like to them. So I can finally understand when they say “I can take it or leave it” you feel something, but what you feel isn’t interesting or captivating, and if you drink more to try and get somewhere it doesn’t really change anything.

That's the same effect chantix had on me and cigarette smoking in 2008. And then I did stop my compulsive drinking and many other compulsive behaviors. And I can't believe I ever put a cigarette in my mouth and I smoked seriously for 25 years. I'm hopeful naltrexone will have the same effect on my son and his drinking and possibly his smoking as well.

Exactly... My experience after taking chantix to quit 🚬 in 2008. It also killed my drinking problem too.! Now I drink from habit but never until the night or the bottle is gone. Also killed my 10 yr cocaine habit for good. I never wanted to white knuckle anything... And Chantix knocked them all out.. one by one. I just got a low dose prescription sent to me to assist with my ADHD symptoms. Hoping my spending will become a non-issue.

100% agree ..people prone to alcoholism get an insane excited, happy, stimulated endorphin rush. Naltrexone turns us into normal drinkers by blocking that..simply brilliant drug.

21 and average 15 a night without ever stopping meaningfully for some years now, I always come back. Recently diagnosed epileptic (not related to alcohol, I was sober at the time) and realize this habit is going to kill me sooner than later. Prescribed today, I have high hopes and really want to take back control 😃 let’s hope this is a new beginning.

Was born an epileptic who grew out of it before I started drinking at 16. 27 now and have thought of similar fates due to consuming too much alcohol. How have you been feeling on the Naltrexone? Also, do you have gran mal or petit mal seizures? God bless.

@@hankgowdey3255 The medication made me feel sick, and off mentally. Per the actual consumption side, it just allowed me to consume more alcohol and only feel the positive effects, masking the groggyness, bloat etc. It made it worse breifly. Thankfully I've found Christ and can drink responsibly now, I'd urge y'all to do the same :). My seizures were Grand Mal as well, I only had 4/5 in a brief episode.

Tomorrow, its my first week on 1/2 a tablet of 50 mg. I cannot believe how fast it worked for me. I completely stopped drinking. I ve been drinking since i am 17 and now 44 I need it to stop because i was drinking in the middle of the day everyday and weekends. I was begging to start to have anxiety and other symptoms. My Dr. Recommended. I am glad. Side effects few, swallow mouth, got a cold symptom few days after. Change color stool. Little edgy.

به خدا توکل کن و میدونم الان که ۱ ساله گذشته سرحال و در حال زندگی و تغییر هستی. منم با خوردن نالترکسون مصرف هرویین رو قطع کردم البته بعد از ۳۰ روز خوردم اونم با تجویز و مشورت دکتر فوق تخصص معز و اعصاب. امیدوارم هرجا هستی سرحال باشی

Naltrexone is incredible. I’m tapering off from literally drinking a 5th of vodka a day (embarrassing). My doctor prescribed me a month of 50mg per day. It’s insane. The first night I only drank half of what I was used to. It’s important to taper because alcohol detox can be dangerous. But I’m amazed at the effect. It makes the feeling alcohol used to give me a “nothing burger.” Haha. It’s brilliant. This is giving me the courage and ability to quit. Many thanks to modern medicine.

But you have to weigh out the pros and cons. Stop trying to knock some positive thoughts on how people can actually benefit from certain meds. Call your doctor, sweetheart.

after 21/2 years on opiod medication high dose and ssri and daily 6-12 beers daily I finally got off of the opiod 30 days today. Had quit the alcohol but started have a few beers a few days ago. I really liked the direction of how I was feeling only to start going back to the negative feelings I'd get with alcohol/ Today I'm getting naltrexone.

First time I tried naltrexone. 1 pill 50mg. Ordered my second beer and half way through it tasted disgusting. Didn't even finish it. Couldn't believe it. Went for dinner with a buddy afterward and usually would drink 2 or 3 glasses of red wine. The thought made me feel ill. Drank coke. Didn't care that I wasn't feeling buzzed. Is this the magic pill I've been waiting for? See what happens the next few weeks.

God, your blessed. Shakes, confusion, likely high blood pressure for me when I was coming down. It’s a medication to be combined with detox and therapy. You can’t just “take it “. That’s a one way ticket to ‘the can’ if you are prone to withdrawal. Never fear rehab and they do prescribe this medication

omg im so excited im picking up my first prescription of naltrexone today, i drink up to 6packs of beer 3/4 times a week, used to be up to 5 days of the week drinking, sometimes just a bottle of wine, im so done with this shit. i just want the cravings to stop. im gonna cry if i can go 1 week, literally. i feel imprisoned in a never ending drinking cycle.

I thought I was the only one that felt that way when I was on Naltrexone. I also would take Naltrexone and get a beer or 2 later in the day. The flavor was disgusting and I didn't like it. I like to taste my beer but reading all these comments I saw the intent of this pill. I just wished I knew sooner and not gave up on this pill.

I see this is for opioids, which is not my addiction. It is cool it works for both though. I see there is new options for those who take opioids. I will look into this with my doctor, for my alcohol problem. I will try meetings, but this is on my forefront more than that.

For a lot of people with an alcohol issue, they have a genetic disposition that means alcohol has an opioid effect on them. It's why some people drink lots yet don't get addicted and vice versa. In short, an a lot of alcohol dependant people simply react differently to "normal" people when drinking. Take this pill one hour before drinking and it's basically like what non alcoholic people feel like when drinking. You get a buzz but it's not all consuming.

I’ve just been prescribed naltrexone 50mg last week and have yet to start it. I am considered a ‘low risk’ or ‘mild’ drinker (as in I do not suffer severe withdrawals nor do I feel I need alcohol to function, but I turn to it as a coping mechanism too frequently, I self-medicate and I hate drunk me) so I’m nervous and excited at the same time about starting. Is it best when starting to take this in the morning with food as you would other medication or is it best to take an hour or two before you have a drink or feel you want a drink? Maybe it works differently for different people but just curious. Great and insightful video too - subscribed!

سلام عزیزم. خداروشکر من بعد از ۳۰ روز پاک شدن مخدر،شروع به مصرف نالترکسون کردم و الان ۲ ماه است استفاده میکنم و خداروشکر راضی هستم.البته با مشورت دکتر متخصص مغز و اعصاب خوردم و الان واقعا عالی م که وسوسه و بی قراری به حداقل سطح ممکن رسیده. خدایا بابت زندگی دوبارت ممنونم

My doc recently subscribed this but without any guidance on how to use it so I looked it up on line and have been following the TMS method - is that ok to do? Should my doc have given me a process to follow? I met with psychiatrist yesterday and told her about my AUD and how I had just started on Naltrexone - she didn't seem to be too thrilled with it and kept pushing AA - I told her I was new on this journey and would maybe seek out AA as an added resource - I really want to give this medication a try - any advice from from new or long-term users?

I was first prescribed after drinking myself into seizures. I took the meds because I was pressured to but didn't want to quit and did want to get drunk. So I power drank my way through the cure.

Ya, if you don’t want to quit over-drinking, it won’t stop you. But if you do, with time and some habit changing work it totally does it’s job. Actually changes brain chemistry/pathways etc.

Chantix had the same effect on me as a cigarette 🚬 smoker. In 2008. Actually can't believe I ever smoked cigarettes... Within weeks of quitting. It also managed my other "impulse control issues." And I just stopped drinking for 6 months because I felt like it. And even when I chose to begin drinking again I have never been able to get wasted. Like many times I would be going I think I'm just buying wine cuz it's a habit to buy wine but I never drink more than one or two glasses and I hardly ever get a buzz. And it's been 15 years. But I have a 34-year-old son who was never diagnosed with ADHD and had 3 DUIs before he was 22. And it wasn't until I succumb to my own reality of being ADHD at 52 that I got present to all of his problems have been on diagnosed and untreated impulse control issues. But he still a habitual drinker and I am very hopeful that this is an option that will make a big difference in his life.

guys.... ........ its 17:00 and im home. first day on naltrexone. WHAT is that??????? im AMAZED. i drank, got drunk, but i didnt feel like staying more time at the bar with my friends. and more importantly, didnt feel guilty, didnt feel like i should go home. i just eanted to go home bcs it was enough. but good enough. hope its gonna be a good journey for me. lets see

@@jesusmalverde612 very well! since i started that i didnt cross a certain limit anymore. i dont drink daily, but i when i do it, i tend to drink a lot, embaress myself, bad hungovers, etc... but since on naltrexone, these situations havent happened anymore.last time was a week ago on my birthday. drank, got drunk, but at some point i just stopped and went home

As someone who drank a bottle and a half of red wine a day straight from the bottle for 5 years... Naltrexone is saving me and I'm only on my first week of taking the 50mg pill. Just looking at, smelling, tasting alcohol scares me, makes me hesitant. I still drink now maybe a glass or two but feel physically and mentally disgusted. So I go to bed early and sleep.

I have drank on naltrexone before, and i have never been so happy to sober up in my life. I thought it was 1 of the most miserable combination of drugs i have ever taken. Taking naltrexone while addicted to opiods was worse of course, but not as much as i expected. Granted when i did that they put me on a propofol IV drip til it wore off because i was freaking out so bad

I have noticed that it's been working after 2 weeks on it and I didn't get the high feeling just the negative effects that goes with alcohol. I drank alot less then before and less the craving that I get energy back. Yah I feel more tired and still have a head high feeling in the morning but it goes away during the afternoon and I feel fine.

It has the ability to create a sincere maintenance drinker out of someone that was not before also. My mind continued to try to find a way to do it as you speak without getting there so I continued trying for years. I watched someone die using naltrexone for drinking. It was sad. It also blocks benzos, which some people need for psychiatric reasons for anxiety, and they are also blocked by this drug. Say what you will, and no doctor will look at this. And how much normal natural feel good chemicals are blocked by it??? Thats a huge question to ask......

I've used this as a opioid blocker and for drinking too, I'm going on it again as on a high risk situation. It's hard to explain drinking on nartraxone. For me I had a few and thought this is shit and stopped and don't think about it. So 4 me nartraxone and 12 step meetings.

I have a question after reading some comments. I was just proscribed this medication for alcohol disorder, however ive never taken pills so im apprehensive. If this pill takes away the pleasure you get from drinking, does it also take other pleasures away like say the feeling of feeling happiness, or sex? Did anyone feel in a numb mood while on it?

I started only 2 days ago, yesterday didn't even feel the need to buy. Tonight I did buy, but instead of guzzling straight away it took me literally 2 hours to open it and start drinking. My interest in it declined, my habit and routine still overpowering but i was like wow 😳 different relationship with it.

It. Is. Amazing. I took it and asked the Dr. “Now what?” She said wait two hours and then go have a drink. Whatever you want. So I did. I ordered a double vodka soda. Started playing on my phone. Next thing I knew, 45 minutes had passed and I had 3/4 of my drink left. And I didn’t want the rest! I left it and went home. I went back to the Dr and said thank you!!!! I cried. I said it works! She just smiled and said, “Yeah. Isn’t it cool?” 😊😊 Saved my life. I was 40 and furious nobody told me about it when I was 25. The money and health I could’ve saved!!! I still email her every few months to thank her.

I got the pills the other day I hope they work kinda scared of them but I've got to quit drinking tryed to wean myself off not even really drinking that much but want to quit drinking after they took my gallbladder out and I got colitis even though its killing my pain sometimes I feel like shit a few days later and its just not helping like it did before think its making it worse even a half pint dehydrated me for a few days so I've got to stop drinking for good tired of feeling bad about myself after I quit drinking for a few days or weeks and binge drink a pint or 2 for no reason its just making my anxiety worse wish I had started it a few years ago when I thought me and my girlfriend could drink and it wouldn't bother me

You get drunk but thats it. You feel very gross from the very first drink. you dont get the initial high. You will lose interest very fast. Even question why the hell are you even doing this. This is coming from heavily drinking myself to "sleep" for the past ten years and am finally almost 2 months sober. Ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis. Just started these meds. never been sober this long the whole time. have zero interest in having a drink ever again. even while sitting at the bar having my favorite burger. zerofux about alcohol

I got a Vivitrol injection 3 days ago and I've felt lousy ever since. I was really depressed the first two days, my sleep isn't good, a mild headache, and don't have an appetite. I hope these side effects don't last, and it's worth it in the long run. I'm miserable.

I'm really sorry. That sucks. I received the Vivitrol shot in the hospital before entering inpatient treatment and -- I don't know for sure -- but I felt as though it made me depressed and tired for a lot of that month. On the positive side, I did not drink, but due to this side effect of a "blah" mood, I decided not to take it again. I've had better experience with Antabuse, though most doctors no longer prescribe that. Hope you feel better.

Since my gastric bypass I have been drinking everyday. In the first 6 months, I got really drunk with 3 or 4 glasses of wine. About 1 and a half years after surgery, I could drink 1.5 liters of wine and not feel drunk. Been taking naltrexone for 2 weeks and still drink. And still want to.

Hey Amanda transfer addiction is real. We need to fight to make these bariatric doctors fully educate patients on all risks!!! No one once mentioned transfer addiction. ^^ same boat had GBS in 2009 at 23 years old I am now 36 had another child and have been a heavy drinker the past five years. It is 100% due to GBS. I’m almost a month on naltrexone and I don’t crave it, and I have had 3 drinks since starting 3 weeks ago. (Coming from 1.5L bottle of wine to the head every night)

I was prescribed today for binge drinking on weekends but know I enjoy having drinks with friends and family and don't want to start taking it if it will forever ruin alcohol for me.

It will only diminish the rewarding effects of drinking alcohol while the medication is active in your system. With a 6-10 hour half life, a dose of 50 mg would be mostly cleared within 24 hours. It will not permanently change your response to alcohol. In your case, maybe take it on Saturday and Sunday (to prevent binges), but don't take it during the week if you feel as though you can control and enjoy your drinking with friends and family in social situations. Not a doctor, just a suggestion.

Seemed impossible, but it’s been over 7 months and I don’t crave a drop of alcohol, the KEY difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal, not even within the first 30 days after I quit. No need for AA meetings or meds either, I just go’ogled Steffon Barkload’s Quit Drinking Forever, and I just don’t even think about it anymore

Drink a beer if it helps you calm down. You don't need Naltrexone unless you're an alcoholic. Take it from someone who drank a bottle and a half of wine a day for the last 8 years to cope with anxiety. I still drink thinking it'll help my anxiety but Naltrexone cuts my limit to 1 or 2 glasses.

Maybe get some meds for your anxiety. I have anxiety and depression. I'm on Lexapro, Buspar and Wellbutrin, but the generics. I drank often nearly daily because of my emotions but alcohol made it worse. On these meds I have no cravings and have not drank in 7 weeks. Holidays are my hardest time but I am doing fine. I have a lot going on that is not positive. Normally I would run to get wine but now I'm able to cope. Of recent, I went to a psych hospital for a partial hospital program for 3 weeks 6 hrs a day M - F. That was really beneficial. I was told by the psychiatrist there, to get a shot of vivitrol or naltrexon meds if I feel cravings. So far so good. However, I will run to get that if I feel the cravings.

@@banksthemicrobully8478 You're not meant to just take it everyday (if you're not drinking), TSM is taking the pill, wiating an hour then drinking on it. You have to drink after taking the medication in order to do an extinction session. Don't take the pill unless you're going to drink, as you're wasting them. Take them only when you're going to drink, an hour before you drink.

It makes it like you are not even drinking. It feels like nothing. There is no point in drinking at all. It probably feels the way normal people drink. It's like when you have to sneeze then , it goes away, and you don't sneeze. It's like eating a pancake, but there's no butter or syrup on it.

From what I’ve researched, it seems that taking it daily would be beneficial to those who want to quit drinking altogether. So it just depends on what you’re after. After all, the drug was developed BEFORE the Sinclair method, not FOR the Sinclair method.

This is a mixed bag. Yes, you may not feel the “high from the booze itself”, but you will feel the physical relief of alcohol which in turn does make you feel “high” if you’re still fighting withdrawal . You can’t just take naltrexone and think it’s instant relief. If you need instant relief you go to detox clinic. Your coronary system will thank you. Believe me, I know personally

I had the naltrexone implant and still have a big bump there that the doctor told me would go away. I then had a vivitrol shot and my butt and hip swelled up with fluid, it itched bad for two weeks and my teeth hurt really bad fopr a week. I know not everyone expoeriences the same side effects. I'm not sure it really worked or not because at that point I was so sick and tired of drinking I just don't know but I'm not getting any more shots or naltyrexone implants.

Of course, but naltrexone won't remove the desire. That has to come from within. I understand what you mean. That's why I don't think this is an effective method. Gotta get to the root of the problem. Replace the desire with a desire to feel good in the long-term. Drinking might solve the immediate problem of stress/anxiety, but the consequences make it not worth it, IMO.

I don’t understand how this medication even works for you guys. My mindset is if Alcohol is gonna not give me the pleasure I’m looking for because of the medication if simply not gonna drink on it after already I already tried experiencing it & if I wanna feel the pleasure I want from Alcohol again I’m simply not gonna take the medication that stops it from working. This is very dumb to me & whoever doesn’t feel the same way must be a whole different species with a brain that is very different from mine. I’ve tried naltrexone & it’s pointless because I used take it when I’m not planning on drinking only which makes the most sense. Now I don’t take them at all because why just why. Ps: I recovered from alcoholism because I was drinking for a reason & I solved that reason which I’m sure solving the reason will work for everyone else as well more than this stupid medication

Don't think you understand the method. The reason you drink after taking the medication is it un-trains your brain from associating an alcohol "gimme more!!" high with drinking booze. You'll have a drink and just kinda be done, and not want to keep going. Like normal non-addicted drinkers do at dinner or at a party...1-2 drinks and you call it. That's what the medication does for ppl. You'll still get a "buzz" but your brain isn't like, Gimme Gimme more! It's more like a subtle, relaxing effect not a crazy endorphin overload rush you get drinking without medication, that got you addicted in the first place. Read up on it.

The Sinclair Method only works if you want to quit drinking, but are struggling to quit. Sounds like you simply don't want to quit drinking, in which case voluntary naltrexone as you say is useless.

Hi everyone, I'm in much need of a reply!!! So please, if anyone could answer it would be incredibly appreciated. I was prescribed with this medication a while ago and I haven't started it yet for the "simple" fact that someone said to me that I had to not drink for a few weeks before commencing with the treatment. I read that this is the procedure to treat the opiate addiction , but that comment made me doubtful and scared. Now, do I have to give up alcohol before taking Naltrexone? Can I just start with the medicine whenever I want in spite of being currently drinking on a daily basis? Thanks so much to whoever that responds

Using the Sinclair method, you take it 1 hour before starting to drink. It's an opioid atogonist, it will physically block the receptors in your brain from getting pleasure from alcohol.
