Argentina is definitely a country that should be on everyone’s bucket list. From the falls of Igyazu to the Perito Moreno glacier, the majestic Andies to the Atlantic beaches, from its indigenous villages of the Jujuy province to its cosmopolitan Porteños, it is a land of delightful contrasts.

A great video and very useful information. I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina for nearly 10 years and traveled to other parts of Argentina. Mendoza is beautiful and completely different from Buenos Aires. The people of Argentina are also awesome they will make you feel welcome you will feel like you are not in a country in financial crisis what a lot of people don't understand about Argentina is they are family oriented hence they pool their resources and work together to enjoy life there is something in Argentina to suit every lifestyle that you could imagine . I purchased a home in Mar Del Plata Argentina and this is where I plan to retire.

@Junior Gonzalez the best way to purchase property in Argentina is to deal directly with the owner of the property but make sure that you hire a real estate lawyer to protect your interests. Word of mouth is the best way to go in my opinion and remember never pay the asking price because everything in Argentina is negotiable. With all the inflation and economic problems in Argentina the real estate values in Argentina have still increased .

There's a huge mistake about the concept of "Dirty War" and the fact that there wasn't a civil war. That term is not longer in use because legally speaking the State (as an authority, being couped by a DICTATORSHIP) can't be in war with civilians of it's own nation. A civil war is a war between different factions of organized civilians. We call it Terrorismo de Estado (or how the State handled illegaly and murderously the situation). Another fact is missing and maybe it's the most important fact of all of this episode of out history: the fact that in '76, once again a dictatorship took the government and proceeded with illegal detentions, torture, killing, stealing and what not to accomplish their intentions. About 30.000 persons where DESAPARECIDOS (missing ones, a term that the Dictator Videla used in a press conference: "they're missing, they have no entity, they're not here, neither dead nor alive).

I recommend exchanging your money in Inner Buenos Aires there are locals that will give you top dollar for the exchange rate. Just blend in and don't flaunt it ;) keep your witts about you the majority of people are outgoing and friendly open minded. You should try the Argentina asado barbeque a must, watch a football match at the Boca stadium, take Tango lessons in Buenos Aires, check out Palermo and la Recolleta and the waterfalls in Iguazu falls and Bariloche for sightseeing in the mountains and rivers and wine in Mendoza have fun ;)

11:12 Everything you said is wrong. 1) The Anglosphere is not the world, only you call them "Falklands". The ACTUAL rest of the world, particularly nations that speak Romance languages, also calls them Malvinas or some derivative from the French 'Malouines Islands'. 2) It's not a 'nationalist' position, but rather a claim that is supported by the entire Argentine population, as it has solid historical foundations and is safeguarded by international law. 3) They were not passed from hand to hand, they were part of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata and were inhabited by Argentines until 1833, when the English INVADED them and expelled the settled population. 4) Invading ≠ reclaim sovereignty. It's an invasion if Ukraine tries to reclaim Crimea? 5) The British did not 'simply show up and took the islands back'. Argentina practically destroyed the British navy, and the UK required the assistance of several countries, including Chile, Uruguay, France, and the USA, to *barely* win the war against a third-world nation, which is kind of pathetic if you ask me. Most academics agree that Argentina was just a week away from winning the war, and it's known that Thatcher even considered dropping an atomic bomb on Córdoba as a result.

I am always struck by the lack of contextualization of Americans who talk about the economy or politics of a Latin American country. They don't address these economic and political problems by telling how the US plays its dominant role in the world. It should tell about the fiscal pressure exerted by its economy on the poor countries of Latin America and the endorsement of the USA that Latin dictatorships had.

Some remarks. Mafalda was strip published in newspapers and was not for children but for grown-ups. She had some friends from the neighbourhood and made comments or satirical to the governent and country affairs. The author was Quino (Joaquin Lavado), recognized in many countries. Mafalda has been translated to many languages. I think the history of Argentina is a little different. The firs arrivals where from Peru, entering the NW of the country. Then, once it was evident that America was a new continent they started to seek for a passage for the spices, as the Portuguese held the route around Africa. Therefore Solis arrived to the River Plate and was killed by the indians. Then Magellan arrived to the River Plate but he realized that it was a river and not a passage to the other ocean and therefore continued south. When he found the strait one of his ships abandoned the espedition to give the news and it is believed that during a storm saw for the first time the Malvinas (Falklands). The pampas had very little population because the indians were nomads, there was little water and no animals that could be hunted. The foundation of cities in the River Plate were mainly to stop the advance of the Portuguese, that originally had ony the eastern tip of Brazil, but then continued to expand finding gold, gems and then sugar. The only sweetener in Europe was honey. Sugar was very appreciated. It is said tha USA was able to get independent because the English preferred to suffocate the slave revolts in the caribean that gave the sugar, than those little colonies in the continent that only sent some tobacco and furs. The southern part of the Continent, the Patagonia was left without any colonization because in Chile they found the Araucanos (today called Mapuches) and the Argentina Patagonia didn´t give any yields. En 1536 Pedro de Mendoza founded Buenos Aires for the first time, but several years later it was abandoned leaving behind some cattle and horses that reproduced freely and when the second foundation is done in 1580 there were thousands of animals going about the pastures. The main exports of Buenos Aires for many years was cow leather. Till the invention of plastic anything flexible and strong was made of leather. The animals were hunted, the leather was taken and the rest of the animal was left. Towards the end of the colonial period there were salting factories that prepared salted meat that was exported to Brazil and the Caribean Islands for the slaves that worked in the plantations. Only in the independent period agriculture was taken at more that subsistence level and from the middle of 19th century there ever growing exports of wheat and corn. Towards the end of the same century there are exports of frozen meat. But first there were big advances in the cattle with the import of british specimens (Shorton, Aberdeen Angus, Hereford). The agriculture implied the inmigration of milions of people. The first in number were italian, second spanish and third from Siria/Lebanon, but we have inmigrant from half the countries in the world. The national identity when Buenos Aires was invaded by the British in 1806 and 1807. The first time they were succesful, but without any help of Spain the locals reconquered the city two months later. The Spanish treasure was already sailing to London where a big parade was held, but the English had to surrender. The second time, in 1807, they were directy defeated in their attack and for the second time, Spain did little to help its subjects. In 1810 the Spanish king Ferdinand VII was captive of Napoleon. In the City of Cadiz a Comission was made to govern in his name and pretended to rule over América. One thing little known is that the territories of Spain in America were not of Spain as a country but of the Crown of Castilia. Were territories of the King/Queen, not of Spain. Buenos Aires made a "Junta" (Comission) to govern in name of King Ferdinand that promptly changed idea and started the process of independence. Therefore in Argentina we have two national days. May 25th, 1810 1st National Government, and July 9th, 1816 Declaration of Independence (of Spain or any other government). Many other revolutions started in 1810, but only Buenos Aires was able to resist suffocation. San Martín 1816 started the organization of an Army of 7000 soliders that crossed in 1817 the Andes ridges to defeat the Spanish in Chile and then in a naval expedition attacked the heart of the Spanish power in South America which was in Lima, Peru. En 1820 Perú declares it independence of Spain. Ushuahia is only founded in 1884, well into the flourishing period of Argentina as a Republic. The patagonia was colonized, not conquered during the 19th century. The Malvinas war is by no means a simple thing. The Argentines had to brake the 150 years period since 1833 when the English took the Island by force. They say they discovered but the first settlement was French from Saint Maló and called the island "Malouines" (then evolved to Malvinas) to hunt sea lions and other fur sea animals. The French recognized the rights of the Spanish Empire to the islands and left. After that there were several encampments in different places of the island of different origins, even USA and Britain. But there were not any settlers. But after Independence Buenos Aires sent some settlers and appointed a governor for the islands. But in 1833 HMS Clio arrived and expelled the Argentine settlers alledgedly because the British had previous rights. Today the kelpers (as the inhabitantas are called) feel themselves totally British and in their schools a partial history is taught, so they really don't believe they should be part of Argentina. Britain had heavy ship losses caused by the Air Force and Naval Aviation.

Hi there I totally agree with you. Argentina during the turn of the century was the most advances prosperous nation on earth and the Libertarians was the political party that made Argentina a success during that era, however when Peronism encroached in Argentina's political party that's when everything changed they began to implement over protectionist policies and restrict global exports however they did Industrialise the nation which was a good thing though the over protectionist policies and increased corruption began to erode Argentina's economy and its society. However I must say this Kirchnerist/Peronist Government is now the most corrupt Government in Argentina;s history! Though the Libertarians are making a comeback and is lead by Javier Milei which has been voted as Times magazines second best economist he wants to kick the political corrupt cast out of power and remove the central bank and increase free the market and increase global exports and Industry he wishes to bring Argentina back to its former glory! This Kirchnerist/Peronist Government does not reflect the morals and interests of the Argentine people. I hope Javier Milei and the Libertarians win next years elections Argentine's deserve much better! VIVA LA LIBERTAD🦁

I woul like clarify tha here in Argentina we don`t call "dirty war" o "guerra sucia" to that period you mentioned. We called "Dictadura" or "Dictatorship" and it was not necessarily a Civil War, it was more a Military take down. And maybe "just not good things happening in Argentina" is a BIG understatement. Argentina is the firs contry in the world to take the Military responsables for the dictatorship to trail and to jail. The war for the islands is so present in every thing because the generation that had to go to war today is people of 60/70/80 year old. So the fathers or grand father of yong people today. And we don`t have a war culture per se, we are not at all "used to" like USA or England.

“The English in this country is questionable” - not sure that’s the right terminology in a Spanish speaking country but I get you lol It would be great to learn more about what happened to the indigenous people, what rights they have if any, and how they’re perceived in modern Argentina. Would also be good to understand what happened to enslaved africans - especially as most other South American countries, look more visibly diverse (obv Argentina is diverse from a European perspective).

Argentine here. First you gotta take into account that on the colonial period and early Argentina we had a really tiny population, less than 1.5 million people. Out independence process began on 1810, then in 1816 we had our independence, and then the usropeans started coming in droves in the last part of the 1800's. The native population mostly mixed up with the Spanish, just like it happened in every Spanish colony. In a lot of places where the native ancestry is stronger a lot of the culture and even the languages are still preserved. Regarding the african-american population, like I told before we had to begin with a tiny population overall, so when the Europeans started migrating here by millions and millions, the country pretty much was overrun by white people. And since colorism and segregation never was really an issue here, even the african-american population also mixed in. Today on Argentina we have only a 0.4% of our population being of african descent. I'm not saying there was not slavery, in fact it was not abolished until 1853. And the % of slaves was pretty significant on the old days, but since the population boost came from Europe, our minorities got really tiny in comparison. For example myself, from the side of my mother there is a mixture of italian and slav ancestry, while in my dad's side there is a mix of german with guaraní(one of the native peoples from the north of the country). We are all so mixed up at this point that we dont even care about our heritage, we are from here and that's it.

We should make a referendum but with the descendants of the Argentines expelled in 1833, not with the descendants of English invaders. What do you think ethnic Russians in annexed territories where they are a majority, like Donbass, will vote in a referendum? Will you respect it and recognize it as Russian land? 13:16 And no. It's not recognized as British by most of the world. The anglosphere is not "the world". The only one who is spitting propaganda is you.
