Hey Buckin, not shure if you ran the calibration completely. If you don‘t your saw definitely needs a lot of constant cutting for self calibration . The calibration procedure as supposed by stihl is as following. 1. Let the saw warm up (doesn’t matter if it idles or revs up) 2.stop the saw. 3. start the saw with closed chainbrake. 4. let it idle with closed chainbrake more than 30s and less than 60s. 5. release the chainbrake and give and hold full throttle. The saw will run automatically for about 15s in a mid speed. It then will step up to full speed by it self. You have to keep full throttle and the saw will run on full speed for about 5-10s and then automatically go back to middle speed. This tells you that the calibration is finished. After that the saw will directly run with the correct setup. Hope this will help. Stay safe and go on with your great spirit. Greetings from Germany. Benjamin

Hey brother does this include all stills or just the 500 because I have a baby one the stihl MS 211c shoal I run these steps to calibrate??? Thanks for the advice
@thommythomson2483

211c does not have the M-Tronic system for self-calibration. The smallest saw with M-Tronic is the MS241. It is included in all professional saws from stihl. Greetings and stay safe.

Thanks for the videos buckin! You and tinman have taught me so much about sharpening chains, even a stock saw can blow the mind of someone who’s not used to it. I love seeing the looks on people’s face when I tell them to let the saw do the work and it just gets it done. Glad you finally came around to a stihl, and I might be on the lookout for a 372xp now!

Intellectual honesty is what the world needs more of. Like Richard Feynman (Physicist) said - "The first principle is that you must not fool yourself-and you are the easiest person to fool. So you have to be very careful about that." (speaking about what makes a good scientist but I think it's a good rule for everyone to consider). I really appreciate that you are open and honest when you feel you've made a mistake instead of being quiet about it. I don't know much about the engines themselves, so it's helpful and appreciated to have this ongoing conversation. I might even get an older saw at some point to go with my 462 M-tronic, as you've got me more interested in tuning.

I'm glad you figured it out. Finally. Last year was all new to me. I had sold all my carb saws and moved into the M-Tronics and the computer 500i. I had to learn about entirely new ways to operate them properly. Some frustrations and experimenting and it is now all good. With the 500i, I witnessed it twice pull itself thru a slowly closing cut, that would have pinched another saw. Its got that kind of power, to pull itself thru a pinching situation. Amazing!

I’m really glad that you are seeing value in this saw. Also, I realize that you have always given tips in your videos, but it seems like you’re focusing even more now on trying to teach people of all experience levels, thank you so much! A lot of people NEVER admit that they may have been wrong about something - kudos to you buddy. I see the rakes burn. We have heavy hardwoods down here. They will blue if you let them get hot. I cut the rakes hard, when I know for sure I am the only one to start the saw. I can use the saw to pick and pile firewood. You do need to keep your leg out of the way. Now Long bars. Yeh - a cane. Have used 2 for a few years at times. Having a long bar on my saw makes sense. I came into the 500i a little differently. A few respected friends, including a Wildland firefighter, spoke very highly of it. When I bought it, the saw guy at CAL ranch told me she needed to sit and idle for a few minutes, in order to warm up and calibrate. The only criticism of my beloved saw is that using the compression release just made the saw exponentially harder to start. I don't use it and she starts just like she should.

My rakers turn brown from friction if I leave them too high. If they're set right they seem to come out pretty clean. Not like I just filed them, but they're clean. I put up maybe 20 cords a year though, so I don't have the 10,000+ hours of experience of all you pros! I still don't trust the 500i, I'm gonna keep limping along with my 390xp and 555 for a few more years. Someday I'll make the jump to the fuel injected or big autotune saws! Cheers, big dog. Hi Buckin, I'm glade your getting thinks figured out with your 500i. Some patience is required to learn these newer electronic saw's as you have found. The new stihl's and the 5 series huskies are very similar, they need the calibration done to get the full potential out of the saws. I think both Stihl and Husky dropped the ball when it comes to explaining the need for the calibration procedures and how to go about doing it successfully on the new saws. I think a video with both you and Donny Walker giving a how to properly calibrate tutorial would be a great contribution to saw community. I hope the shoulder continues to heal for you.

Ripsaw did a nice job on that 500, it sounds good! When you speak truth your not going to make everyone happy. I appreciate you pointing out that 4 stroking till pressure is applied. You just cant be doing that if your running a saw for 6 hours or more a day. I still am hesitant in buying into these modern day wired up injected saws. My old Huskys have done me well and still make me smile when they're sharp and running true!
@onthelake9554
@onthelake9554 Жыл бұрын
I know it sounds like four stroking ( too rich) but it's imply a rev limiter . With enough load or with a sharp chain and rakers set correctly it's gone. But hold wide open with it out of the wood and it will always be there .

I own various Stihl power equipment. One thing I found with them other than they make awesome products is they need to be loaded to perform peak. It seems like they engineered them to be that way. Even my grass trimmer is that way. Simply runs ands performs better under a heavy load. High rpm of course. I think that’s how the valved two stroke is designed to be used. Full power and fully loaded. Seems that its where they really shine and make that impressive power we want. So, I would suggest not to over buy on a big saw or any piece of power equipment made like this if you really only need to (baby) it to do the majority of your work. Buy a little smaller and push that sucker. It will perform well

hey I'm from Poland, I really like your videos and especially those about modifying chainsaws It's a pity that in Poland no one does such tutorials and does not give advice on how to improve the chainsaw to have more power and the like. Greetings

Glad you're getting better Buckin', Just remember to take it slow and don't push too hard and fast. I don't know if you've noticed or not but you're not as young as you used to be. I've found that out and it's hard to admit it but we don't heal like we used to. I'm just saying, be careful brother. Push too hard and you could be set back even longer. Love you Buckin', God Bless.

Hey Buckin, I run a couple 500's at work. The 500's only like full throttle and idle. If you do any half throttle right before your cut it will go rich. Let it idle down after going half throttle and it's fine right after that. Love and kindness from Kelowna BC
