OMG!!! you saved my life. My NTG3 was doing the same noise (and i don't have it on warranty) and tried this fix, now is working flawless. I suppose that RODE should take note on this issue and try make this part more solid.

Thanks for the video! I had a similar rattling sound issue with Rode Videomic NTG. The problem was the little round mesh on the end cap which was loose. I fixed it by pulling the foam behind it a little bit, so that it pushes against the mesh.

The most incredible thing about this video is the fact that he is thinking about buying gear to let people borrow it.

Playing music in the foreground is pointless - it just buggers up the point of the audio issue being in a video of a microphones warranty being invalidated, when your michas a more serious issue - you won't have a ten year warranty to fall back on (you know, the one that also plagues the NTG2 and NTG4+ where the XLR pins come out - aaargh!!)

Thanks for the video. I had a noise problem with my NTG-3 as well. Your video gave me a hint as to disassembly, so I did. After disassembling mine to find the noise had disappeared, I surmised that the three screws that hold the outside barrel on were ever-so-slightly loose and simply disassembling and reassembling the mic made the noise disappear. Thanks again.

Nice video but that thing you have fixed with glue is not potentiometer, it is transformer with screw adjustable (frequency) core.

Interesting, I didn't notes that. The mic is still working well.

@@DIYCameraGuy - Well done :) Additional info if you are interested: In that mic, there is high frequency oscillator (transformer is part of it) and in course of time it's frequency may change, resulting in weakened output signal of the mic. Core of this transformer is adjustable so you can correct the oscillator frequency for maximum volume of the mic.

I had my ntg3 opened a few days ago. One of the 3 xlr pins had come out loose. So i had to de-solder the 2 resistors and put the screw back. Its working fine now.

i had this same issue, i didnt have a hot glue gun but i had blue tack, ( sticky tack for my american people ) so i just stuffed some in the hole of the potentiometer n that solved it... for now at least. dont know how long it will last but i like it because its not as permanent a fix as hot glue, i can remove it easily with no hassle.

Awesome. I would like your video was more close up in both side of the board. In fact, I recommend you to make a big resolution photograph of the board. If any of the smd, resistors, capacitors, etc go burned you could know what is the exact value of the component. A 700 bucks microphone opened deserves a good analisis of its components. Thanks a lot. I love this type of videos on youtube. Liked, subscribed.

This may be a dumb question but I have a faulty pin on this microphone, I don't have any screwdrivers small enough to open it up, any recommendations on what size I would need or what set to get? Thank you

I have a question: My friend has a faulty NTG3. It works fine but when he brings is outside it soon generates extensive noise (especially when it's cold). Could it be condensers? Anyway, your video is great!

What kind of noise is it. My first thought is wind noise. Does it make the noise indoors when you swing the boom back and forth?

My NTG3 i think might have this same problem. I was using it yesterday and it sounded horrible. I little bit overdriven and very noisy. I was tapping around on the mic with my finger and the noice would go away and come back. Same thing would happen when i would move the mic around. I finally tapped it in the right spot it seems. Now it sounds much better like it should. Not sure what is happening here. Does it sound like maybe the same issue?

hi, I really need your help, I ve lend my ntg3 to a film crew 3 month ago, ever since, I didn't double check it whereas now I had to use it, and found out that it is not working as it should be, so I openned it and found out the top part which is the condenser is missing, so I am wondering inf you could tell me where could I buy one or how to order one and what is it called, & how much does it cost? thanks a lot, and by the way love your video

you lent it to somebody without the protective case.... what do you think its for? Microphones need care and can easily get damaged.

Hi, this product is advertised to have a moisture/humidity filter build inside. Can you show me which is it if it has been seen in this video please? Thanks
@DIYCameraGuy
@DIYCameraGuy 4 жыл бұрын
It’s not just a piece on the inside. The electronics are designed similarly to the SM 416. Both mics can handle high humidity without degrading the sound.

@@DIYCameraGuy thx a lot, can I ask you a suggestion please? I have a few mics that are not made to handle humidity. Does exist any diy mod that may help to let them handle humidity? I was thinking about using wd40 spry over the electronics to crate a film that may act as shield, what do you think may it work to prevent degrading sound and other ideas? Thx again and Happy New Year! :)

Daniele Saini wd40 has solvents that can harm the circuit boards. When I’m working in wet conditions I place a condom over the mic.
