I think the $3 gold piece is pretty cool - an obscure and often forgotten member of the pre-33 family.

They are simply magnificent, conservation efforts will bring their old form. I saw what PCGS did with 1427 piece of buried gold coins. Peoples trust you with their treasure, unfortunately peoples don't have trust in some loud mouth. Someday I will have these kind of coins in my collection. Thanks a lot numi. Keep up the good work.

I have always liked early 20th century American coins (gold, silver, and nickel) and 19th century gold pieces, and it is a tribute to those designs that we have recycled them for our modern bullion coins and the first spouse gold series. Today, I look at the Philip Nathan run of Britannia designs, and I sense that they will be the collector's favorite of the future.

Love the $2.50s. Interesting denomination, the liberty head coins have an awesome design, and the incuse Indian design is fantastic. Do love the $20 liberties too (don't own any of those though... maybe someday...)

My best advice to the consignor of these coins is to not have them graded. They have very little numismatic premium, which would be wiped out by the mailing and grading costs.

Congratulations on your new partnership with Heritage. Hope it works out well for you. The coins you featured sell for a little over spot until you get past 61 or 62, and then they increase in value significantly. If given the choice between a nice old gold coin and modern bullion with similar premiums over spot, I’d choose the old coin almost every time. Older US coins have come down A LOT in price over the last 5-10 years. Maybe there’s more downside, or maybe the market has bottomed out. I’m hoping the latter is true. If money were no object, I’d take a 1907 Saint-Gaudens UHR. Amazing looking coin and great story behind how it was designed and struck. I think the 1915-S Gold $50 Panama Pacific Octagonal is the nicest commemorative the US has ever minted. It’s very heavy. Over 2.5 ounces. 1861 gold coins from New Orleans, Charlotte, and Dahlonega are in great demand because of the Civil War significance. Those mints were seized by the Confederacy that year and stopped or minting or minted very few afterward. All are very expensive, but the 1861-C $5 Liberty Head is pricey but not unattainable in XF or possibly AU. I’d love to add one of those soon. Like most people I could go on, but you get the point. My wish list is huge.
@Numistacker
@Numistacker 6 жыл бұрын
That’s the biggest issue I guess that the wish list is long and the good ones are still too expensive. Having said that I would love a Proof half eagle of any year in my collection.

They used the same Liberty bust on the $1 type 1 gold and the $20 gold you have there. I noticed they used to recycle a lot of the same designs, obverse and reverse, on our currency. Perhaps they were missed opportunities for fresh new designs many had desired.

Unless they are semi rare or rare they are not worth getting for an investment they have come down a lot as a coin. I had 10 of the $20 all slabbed and I was very lucky to get my money back after holding for 8 years. Switched to Sovereigns and they are doing very well.

so is sovereign better at holding value?
@ecklar123
@ecklar123 5 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, an 8 year holding period is too short of time to expect much appreciation. Over long periods bullion type coins appreciates at approximately average inflation rates. You might be lucky and catch a quick upswing but they don’t happen often and you more likely will hold through 10 or 20 year periods where gold doesn’t move much. So it’s best to see this as an inflation hedge that hopefully you enjoy owning, holding and seeing in hand.

I’m trying to save for an eagle collection. Just one each size, not worried about year or mint mark. I love the idea of conservative and grading, but it’s pricey isn’t it? And unless I thought a coin was very special, I’m sure the dealer would have sent it was it deemed valuable enough. I also love the shield back sovereign. But really nice ones I have found are pricey and hard to find in person.

I must say, i dont like pre 33 going to any other country, but i guess its more important that the pre 33 goes all over the planet than not in order to save it, for example, i have 1924 1 ruble communiat, great coin, i have a 1936 maybe, right before our best friend of germany did well. The shit the soviets made was still under america, well, well? Our coins were pretty good, the silver ones anyhow

Du you have any Danish gold coins in your collection? If not you really should have at least one or two - I've noticed you like nice coins. They're not the most rare (in Denmark at least) except I think of the released years only one year is semi rare and then there's some rarer than hens teeth because those very limited numbers out there shouldn't be there at all - they should still be in the Danish National Bank and no one knows how they got out. Especially the years 1913 and 1915 to 1917 there's a lot in great condition of as a few years back the National Bank sold an amount of them in nice cardboard brochures - directly from being stored 100 years uncirculated in the bank directly to you. So while the Danish coins (yet) doesn't win on rarity they IMHO is some of coins with the best minting - ever. Under a magnifier it's stunning all those very small details which are absent on most other countries coins. Especially the shield on the back is very rich in details. Even on the small 10 kroner coin - in fact I think from a technical point of view it's actually better than the 20 kr. despite being smaller NO(!) details seems lost when compared to the larger 20 kr - even though the 20 kr is the richest coin I know when compared to other countries coins. Now I only hope that the National Bank will sell some of the previously unreleased years in the same style as the other mentioned. I'd be the first to buy them all. Was a priceless moment when I walked into the bank to buy them all they released. Have always been buying stuff on flea markets and sold again to make som profit and since they don't take credit card in the National Bank (weird, I know) I then had a rather large pile of random bank notes some more worn than others - not directly from an ATM. The lady behind the counter "Oh! That's all your savings!" :D
