Jackie starring Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard and Beth Grant is reviewed by Alonso Duralde (TheWrap and Linoleum Knife podcast), Ben Mankiewicz (Turner Classic Movies), and Christy Lemire (www.ChristyLemire.com).
Read what other critics had to say: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jack...
Jackie is a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). Jackie places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband's assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband's legacy and the world of "Camelot" that they created and loved so well.

At first I was thinking that Natalie Portman is way too young to be playing Jackie Kennedy, and then I looked it up and Natalie Portman is a year older than Jackie Kennedy was at the time that this takes place. Holy shit.

I'm so happy that my fellow Chilean Pablo Larrain (maybe the best Chilean director working today) is finally getting some recognition, the guy has another movie this year that already has a Critic Choice nomination for best foreign film for Neruda (fantastic film by the way), and it's one of the fronrunner for the Oscar. I really hope this movie opnes more dorrs for him on the big Hollywood leagues.

+Kay Jay - I agree. I had to see this movie because I lived through it. As a 13 year old I saw Lee Harvey Oswald killed on live TV. I don't know how, as a kid, I managed to deal with that. Also, at a point in the movie, I forgot that I was looking at Natalie Portman, and started to see Jackie Kennedy. She gave strength to the country. We had to learn how to deal with this tragedy since Jackie could. The one thing that surprised me is that they didn't show the iconic image of John John saluting as his father's casket passed by.

I'm 65, so I remember Vaughn Meader. I also remember David Frye who did Richard Nixon. If I remember correctly, when JFK was asked about Vaughn Meader, He said I think he sounds more like Bobby. I think it is a shame that vocal impersonators have totally disappeared from the comedic landscape.

I'm not quite sure how can Alonso give "Jackie" a 7.0 and "Bad Santa 2" a 6.0, and not even feel embarrassed. That's how a 12 year old would rate those movies. I know it's his opinion, but he's a movie critic ffs.

No mention of Caspar Phillipson who looked a lot like JFK, and deserved at least some credit. The dance near the end of the film where Peter Sarsgaard playfully pushes CP away is a little light relief from the unrelenting sombreness.

Very poor selection in Natalie Portman as Jackie. From the voice and sort of accent to just not having enough facial similarities and even the way she carried herself. I never stopped seeing Natalie, as Alonzo put it so well.

They put some of the Jackie footage matched with Portman's, it was damn near identical, down to the inflections and mannerisms of her voice and body. Natalie Portman did a very good job.

No doubt the acting, directing, etc was great but goodness do we need another Camelot/Kennedy/Jackie, etc movie? Who in the hell asked for this or cares? Are there any other stories to be told? Just over it...kinda like the recent release 'Rules Don't Apply'. We the public just don't care to see another movie made about the same dead people. Full stop....:)

Jackie had too unique a face to be portrayed by almost anyone really. She was a very odd type of attractive. Natalie Portman is just way too attractive in a not at all odd way but she gets very close to the voice and mannerisms to make it partially believable. However, this story is not one to interest me what so ever.

that one needs to be explored because the first movie even thought it was fairly successful only explored a glimpse of her life. I am sure around this time in 5 years we'll get jackie kennedy's years as an onassis wife and perhaps before that we'll get tv show about her years a.s a doormat.

Why is Ben here? I'd thought he'd finally quit and gone off anywhere but here. It's a little bit of a joke to even have his name associated with the show, like having a guest actor who gets name credit but never shows up anywhere and nobody can really recall doing anything. Auto thumbs down.

Joshua Loftis off the top of my head I have no idea, but someone with a way wider face for one. see the thing with pictures like this is, they're oscar bait, so an established actor goes for the role. if it were a bio of Jackie Kennedy, one that existed because we didnt already have many and needed it, they'd pick an unknown who actually looks like her and gives off her vibe.
